I’m surely not an hater. I’ve been defined as a fanboy, at the time. And I am sort of it.
But this is outrageous.

outrageous? Hahaha, why?

Is a bmw 5 outrageous? Is a virtual clothing product in an online shooter outrageous? Is a ralph lauren t shirt outrageous, because it costs 1500% more than a regular one?
They‘re not selling bread or milk, so seriously, why is it outrageous? Just don‘t buy it.

There is no such things as bad news ... as long as people continue talking about your brand.
  • The complaining group will never buy the MacPro
  • Pros who need the machine are not affected by all this negativism
In both cases Apple wins.

I don’t think that’s true. I have many friends who have grown so tired of these kinds of gimmicks that Apple is a tarnished brand in their eyes and they’ll buy anything but.

That’s true, but with that said...

£700 for a set of wheels?! I could buy a console and quite a few games for the price of these things.

The price hike over the last two generations of Mac Pro has put them out of reach of many that had supported and used the Mac Pro since it was first introduced. The accessory pricing on the latest generation is absurd to the point of being almost offensive. Anyone paying £600 for a set of trolley casters simply has more money than sense. Anyone selling 4 trolley casters for £600 obviously has no idea of providing customers with value for money products.

And looks like no brakes, still... *shrug*

$175/wheel.

Apple is the "Supreme" of the tech world.

Oh, for a minute I thought you were suggesting that people would start seeing MacPro's up on bricks because the wheels are being stolen! That would be funny.

Yeah, I was looking for some tile for a project, and found an outrageous looking tile that would have been perfect. I saw the price, and assumed it was for a larger quantity. No, it was 'each', and the cost was $149.00! Each... For tile... The salesperson said a few other people had thought like me, that it was for a case. They quoted a builder whose client assumed it was priced incorrectly, and the client came in yelling at them for the outrageous quote. It takes all kinds...

Considering the handles too, you may well be onto something! Lift from the side where the feet are and wheel it along, and finding versions of the feet on Amazon like the first alternative Apple Watch bands...

The only thing may be the feet and wheels don't put the Mac at the same height, I'm not sure of that. Either way, I want the wheels and two monitor stands so I can fashion an Apple skateboard.

You could by 140 Big Macs. Or 105 reams of Xerox paper. Or 4273 (give or take) shares of Chesapeake Energy Corporation.

But none of those will really help you to move your workstation around a lab or wherever you have it. Except maybe the Big Macs if you squeezed all the grease and oil out, and used it as lubricant on the floor to make the feet slide I guess..

For me, if my company had one, I'd bolt it to the floor. That thing isn't going to risk falling over, or falling off something. Yikes...

But the people that buy these probably threw out their older 'trash can' Pro's anyway. I'd LOVE to get a trash can MacPro from a company that would throw one out. OR it's people that lease them, and just 'turn them in' at the end. 'Here you go, all yours!'

I don't think they're particularly top-heavy or unstable, are they?

I find that hard to believe, unless they're rich beyond any reasonable definition, and bought both of them as status symbols.

There is a difference between affording expensive tools, and not caring about money.

if you are selling wheels as an option the price shouldn’t go north of $99 since you are already making a good profit out of the computer itself.

Knowing Apple, I wouldn’t be surprised if they weren’t making much profit off those wheels and they were just made in some ridiculous extremely expensive manner. Like milled out of a single piece of metal by some artisan craftsman lol.

the funny part about the Mac Pro is the “stop complaining because you’re poor” people. like yeah I guess there’s a certain level of affluence you have to reach before a $400 wheel option is a “**** it” decision.

to me just buying the base model at $6000 would be an enormous purchase. Could I do it? Sure! I do have the money in the bank. It’s not even “eating ramen for the next few months” money. Although I think it’s be idiotic to spend that kind of money on a computer i dont Need with the economy the way it is right now lol.

like my current desktop cost me about $3k to build and it is more than fine for my needs lol. Hell I thought dumping $500 into a case was audacious :D

I was just thinking about those people, more specifically the ones who say "if you can afford a Mac Pro you can afford the wheels", and I realised what an absurd point of view that is. If I'm spending £5,000 on a computer, that does not mean I can afford an extra ten percent of the price just to put it on casters!

Not one person here crying about the price can afford the Macpro in any meaningful manner. Thus the wheel kit is not targeted for your pocket. A lot of people can barely afford an iPhone if it wasn't sold in attractive plans split up in monthly payments spread through 1-2 years.

Same argument works this way;
Why buy LV when Target sells cheap clothes?

Many of you guys don't understand positioning, luxury and branding.

And how many of the 1% are going to buy a 7,1 AND then buy these $700 wheels (that don't apparently come with a lock).

I understand that we are looking at the largest economic contraction since the Great Depression. This is a Let them eat cake product.

Apple isn't a computer company anymore.

They are a luxury goods company that dabbles (poorly, in my opinion) in computer hardware and software.

Higher-end cars tend to have larger, wider wheels
The same argument can be made about young (predominantly) men who buy a POS car and spend more money than the car cost, on "upgrades".

So, once more: the car itself has no bearing on the price of the tires. The size and type of wheels on the car have some bearing on the price, but, as it happens, the wheels on cars can be changed.

Can you put casters on a Mercedes?!

Higher-end cars tend to have larger, wider wheels --> larger, wider, lower-profile tires --> more expensive.

True! I bought an ML430 after they first came out, and had it long enough for the stock tires to need to be replaced. I was floored at the cost of replacement tires! The stock tires were over $300 each. I was expecting, at the most, something around $125 to $150, but they were really wide tires. They had a huge 'contact patch', and the rims were really wide, and were still, apparently at that time, rather rare in the market. I ended up with Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires, and they were like riding on rails on ice. And were more affordable. *shrug* It'll be the LAST Mercedes I ever own too...

You can put a Mercedes on casters. It happened many times with the one that I owned. The first three years, it spent more time in the shop then in my garage. Once, the whole drivetrain locked up. They had to lift it up and put it on casters to get it on the truck.
