At this point, anyone still defending Apple must be nuts. There’s was caster from certain PC case…..and it’s not even gouging into 700, not even close as 400.

If you have to ask that question then you have ZERO understanding of the high end professional tech market.

Go look up the accessory prices on a RED camera and get back to us ;)

I have plenty of understanding of the high end professional tech market. I'm simply asking if Apple has given a rationale from their end. While not always done, it is not uncommon for Apple in some way to respond to something like this -- for example, having someone like Phil Schiller responding to a question about this in an interview, etc. That's all I was asking, no need to be insulting.

What...The...F***, Apple?? Is this a late April fools joke?

(Overheard from the Apple Boardroom)

Rando Apple Employee: "Sir, the economy is crashing, people are losing jobs, having trouble paying rent, putting food on the table. What should we do?"

TC: "WHEELS"

Rando: "Sir???"

TC: "You heard me. WHEELS."

Rando: "For our on-again, off-again Autonomous Apple Car project, sir?"

TC: "No, you fool! Wheels for a computer. A computer that doesn't move more than 1-2 feet a year except in order to dust around it. And make sure we charge a ridiculous amount for them. An amount that is the same as a new set of radial tires that last 40k-50k miles on an actual car. An amount that is close to some families monthly food budget. $699 sounds about right!"

Rando: "But what else do these wheels do for $699, sir?"

(RANDO GETS SLAPPED)

TC: "They ROLL B**CH! What else would they do?!"

-----------------------------------

The new status symbol replacement for Airpods. "Wheels"...

For that price it should include a HomePod with googly eyes you can bolt to the top of the machine. Then your MP could laugh at you for paying that much for wheels.

This reminds me of the Nokia phones that used to cost like $1500 just because it had a label on it saying "Vertu" 🤣

So I can see why someone might be worthwhile to buy a $50K Mac Computer, but who buys 4 chrome wheels for $700? I bet there are chinese knock offs for $20.

There is no such things as bad news ... as long as people continue talking about your brand.
  • The complaining group will never buy the MacPro
  • Pros who need the machine are not affected by all this negativism
In both cases Apple wins.
Yeah, nah, I don't think so. Apple are losing a lot of customers, domestic, and corporate, due in part to ridiculous prices, and in part to declining quality and features. News like this merely ads to the theme.

Apple gained it's place on the throne due to the Jobs genius. These days, it maintains it's place, simply due to a merely decent competitor. It is ripe for the fall, and one day it will come.

High-paid directors out of touch with the end user. Hard to think that no one looked at eachother in the boardroom and thought “this is going to get laughed at”

Apple says the kit includes a 1/4-inch to 4mm hex bit for installing the wheels, but additional tools are necessary. The purchase price includes a total of four wheels and an installation guide.

Perhaps I’m old fashioned, but I’m of the opinion that if I’m buying wheels for my computer for $700, all the tools needed for the installation should damn well be in the box. I bought a Nest thermostat for less than half the cost of these wheels and Google was nice enough to include a screwdriver — which was all that was needed for the installation.

Can I drive this on the road? Are these wheels run all flats and off-road capable? Or does it have some sort of sensor for auto-balancing? If Apple is charging a premium price then they should mention its features. Same on Apple.

If one of them is damaged, shall I purchase another complete set again?

You mean “sHame on Apple”?😆😆😆

......honestly......how does Tim Cook sleep at night.........
Quite well, I assume in his mansion on his nice expensive bed. I have used apple products for years but this insanity is driving me away from Apple. I will probably be making the switch to the darkside because it is becoming sickening.

Sorry but those who buy the wheels are dumb Fs whether they are pros or not.

Not one person here crying about the price can afford the Macpro in any meaningful manner. Thus the wheel kit is not targeted for your pocket. A lot of people can barely afford an iPhone if it wasn't sold in attractive plans split up in monthly payments spread through 1-2 years.

Same argument works this way;
Why buy LV when Target sells cheap clothes?

Many of you guys don't understand positioning, luxury and branding.

i'm sure that $700 hefty price includes some sot of QA.

I know right. Having expensive, niche products is one thing. But forcing customers to buy products they don't need is just ridiculous.

you do have the option feet or wheels.. on purchase

Would really love to see IHS or some other expert industry analyst give an estimate of the manufacturing cost of the MacPro's feet and wheels, and of the XDR's stand. It would be interesting to compare the retail cost:manufacturing cost for these with the ratios chosen by manufacturers of other low-volume pro products.

So many comments from people who aren’t even close to the intended market for this computer. It’s almost like comments about iPhones from people who buy cheap android phones. At least it’s entertaining 😂

Tim Cook and gang have really lost all sense of reality. Unfortunately I'm sure some idiots will buy them.
If someone buys this computer they’re obviously extremely successful so calling them idiots seems like jealousy to me

Trust me, some of the pros have comented on these prices as well. Herb Zevush, of Zebra Productions (https://services.creativecow.net/s/1033/zebra-productions) described them on creativecow.net as "ridiculously priced".

Having said that, there's certainly a subset of pros that are relatively (compared to consumers) much less price sensitive, and used to the relatively higher prices for pro gear (though not necessarily quite this relatively high).
