I have iWorks '09 but I only see the option to buy Pages, Numbers, etc.

Is there a trick to getting them upgraded free? There is no upgrade mechanism in the apps themselves and the app store lists them as $19.99 each.

Upgrade to Mavericks. Then it will upgrade you for free on the apps.

I'd select the options to preserve reverse compatibility if I were you. The new Pages at least is seriously dumbed down. I've kept my old one installed in a separate folder.

Not exactly.... which one is it, free for new macs or free for everyone who owns any legacy version of the software, on a new mac or otherwise? It has to be one or the other...

I have a legitimate copy of iLife 09' and am not getting the update.

Taken from previous MacRumors article:

"Users who own iWork '09 or iLife '11 are supposed to receive the latest versions of both those app suites for free through the Mac".

iLife '09 does not qualify. If you had iLife '11 you'd be in good shape. I never said "any legacy version"...

To re-iterate more clearly:

If you bought a new Mac on or after October 1, 2013, you are entitled to the new iWork & iLife software for free regardless if you ever owned the software.

If you have a legacy version of iWork '09 and/or iLife '11, you are entitled to a free upgrade.

Understand the difference now?

Have you updated to Mavericks? Mine didn't show up until I updated.

What's interesting, I am running 10.8.5 and I have the latest Pages, Numbers and iLife '11 installed. When I went to software update, at the bottom of the screen there was a section that was titled something like "Incompatible Apps". When I opened it up, it showed a update for Pages and Numbers that required 10.9. However, none of the iLife '11 apps showed up in that list.

I am taking a little caution approach to installing 10.9. I have installed 10.9 on a external HD. This weekend I am going to boot to 10.9 on the external HD and see what apps will not work with it. My kids and wife would be pissed at me if they could not run the apps that they use.

I have the exact same problem :-(.

Well, I was able to update the iLife apps just fine, but the iWork '08 suite(which I paid for) still doesn't offer any free upgrades. Maybe later in the day.

Still $19.99 for iWork updates even though I have iWork '08 bought and installed from a while ago.

I buy all my software so it's nice to be treated with a little respect. As a result I'll be happy to continue to buy Apple software rather than pirate it.

I am really glad they did this. I remember buyin the boxed version of iLife '11 and iWork '09. No more feeling like a second class citizen, we're all on the MAS now. ;)

Apple 2013:

Apple 2003:

Hmmm.

Apple since forever

Unlike Microsoft, where all customers are treated as criminals.

I think comments like this are unfair. Apple's business revolves around hardware, and they have little interest in being a software company or making money off software (IOS apps excluded). This is why OSX has been more or less the cost of media to upgrade. Their hardware costs have the software costs backed into them. Their motivation to keep advancing their software side is so they can sell more hardware.

On the other hand, TRY to install Mac OSX on a clone PC and you better darn bet that Apple will treat you "as a criminal". Apple will shut you down real quick, and are much harsher than Microsoft is when it comes to that sort of "licensing".

Aperture 2.x

Anyone have success upgrading to the new version of Aperture from a legitimate Aperture 2.x (2.1.4)??

Well I'm still bugged that I can't update my legitimately acquired iWork '09 DVD version.

Still I'm hoping for the best (tried reinstalling it from scratch but no joy). I'm pretty bummed since I use numbers and keynote regularly.

If anybody wants to share a fix for the <apps downloaded with another Apple ID> issue...

Release iWork for Windows and then you might. People get tired of the same old thing, even in the "suit and tie" business world where creativity doesn't belong apparently. I think it'd make Microsoft a bit nervous.

Now when it comes to Word and Excel, Pages and Numbers aren't quite there yet for the power-users of those programs.

Actually, Apple released AppleWorks for Windows back in the late '90s or early '00s. It was nowhere near as good as iWork, but it served as an Office substitute on my ex's PC.

Plus, iWork for iCloud works really well on Windows in my short experience with it.

It's not working for me. I am getting the message "This update is for an app downloaded with a different Apple ID. Sign in with that Apple ID and try again." Anyone else?

I have heard that creating a new admin user, logging into that user and going to the MAS, the free updates show up. I have not tried it yet.

Try reinstalling iWork 9.3.

Worked for me.

Not to worry, I fixed it. The "create new admin user" didn't work for me, so I simply went to system preferences and changed the language of my Air. Rebooted and apparently my store suddenly realized that there were some available updates.

Aperture 2.4.1

I've been able to upgrade all my iLife and iWork apps, but it doesn't let me upgrade Aperture. Version 2.4.1

Anyone else having this issue?

Well, should I ever upgrade to Mavericks from SL, it will have fun trying to sort my apps to an ID.

I don't have an ID, and I long ago threw out all Mac apps, with the exception of Safari and Utilities.
