Not exactly.... which one is it, free for new macs or free for everyone who owns any legacy version of the software, on a new mac or otherwise? It has to be one or the other...

I have a legitimate copy of iLife 09' and am not getting the update.

From what I understand, when you do the update the old version is not deleted. You can update and still use the old version. I am thinking that in the future the update may not be available for the older versions. And if Apple, and I suspect they will, fixes the new versions then you are good to go switching to the new version.

Snow Leopard Users, Question

I have not had a chance to read all of the replies yet.

Question for Snow Leopard Users. Will the new Aperture work on 32 bit Snow Leopard, and that question is for IMovie as well?

Judging from some other threads I think I will hold off on Pages as it works fine now.

How does this update work? It still shows $19.99 for Pages in the App store. And how about for Aperture if you only have an older downloaded version?

Thank you.

They could at least give me the MAS version that will work with whatever version of OS X I'm running...

I see what you are saying. But since there will not be anymore updates for the old version, other then update to the new version, I don't see what matter it makes any longer. I suspect the old version of iWork is eventually going to be removed from the MAS.

The new versions only work when running under 10.9. You won't be able to update until you have 10.9 installed first.

Well I got Pages, Numbers and Keynote on my Macbook Air 2013 but I can't update them. I only get the purchase option. What do I do?

Mavericks installed. I have iLife '09 that came preinstalled on my MBP. I can update garage band for free (no use for this though). I really want to update iPhoto, however, and it's saying 14.99 to purchase... Seems others are encountering this problem as well.

Thoughts?

Same here. I have iLife 09 on my 2009 Macbook and I can only see the GarageBand update.

Umm ok, but that has nothing to do with what I asked.... I have a copy of iLife 09 that came installed on my computer, and am not seeing the update

I have heard that creating a new admin user, logging into that user and going to the MAS, the free updates show up. I have not tried it yet.

Had trial version of Aperture said there was an update so I updated it now it shows up under my purchases in the Mac app store. Way to go Apple!

They're looking for €17.99 for each of the Apps for me. And i have a legit copy?

Do i need to reinstall or something? Definitely no update working through the App Store

Cheers

Sorry I misread your post. Try the new admin user trick I posted above. Some people have reported that it works.

Good. Can we stop people from making Powerpoint presentations that look like a middle schooler made them and have people start using Keynote now please?

Yes please, some are out right embarrassing at some of the meetings I attend here at work.

It's about time. Google gives out free (at cost) hardware to sell data services/advertising. Makes sense for Apple to give out free software to sell hardware. I'm still waiting for Apple's true counterattack: ad-free, non-tracking search. Google is attacking Apple's hardware business by giving everything away for free. Apple needs to return the favor.

Ads-free is nice, but non-tracking search? NAS say NO

For those of you that think all is wonderful with these new versions, listen to your fellow Mac users:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5468056?tstart=0

I wouldn't be surprised since this is a new version that those features will creep back in......as updates are released.

Not making excuses but we have seen this with other software products that have been rewritten and released by Apple.

I have iWorks '09 but I only see the option to buy Pages, Numbers, etc.

Is there a trick to getting them upgraded free? There is no upgrade mechanism in the apps themselves and the app store lists them as $19.99 each.

I had to update to Mavericks before the updates worked for me.

students rejoice

thanks apple!

as a student, i can say that this is a very wise move for apple. i don't make **** right now and live on loans, but i've been on apple products for about 14 years now. don't ask me how long i've been in school :p NextSTEP was targeted for university users and i'd like to believe that OS X has kept that tradition.

Apple, i know you're listening: once i pay off these loans, i'll start payin' for your software...if it is not all free by then.

its difficult to say MS is evil. MS is a very different business model than apple. they only deal with code. It was a wise business model in the 90s but i don't think it has longevity anymore. this is why google bought motorola and MS bought nokia and started vertically integrating. My point is that I've sunk more money into apple hardware than i would have spent on MS office.

Apple 2013:

Apple 2003:

Context.

What are you disappointed about?

Lack of a 144pt option for a post.

It's only a model.

Shhhhhhhh!!!

Hahaha, totally random (and funny). :D

If they're cheating the system by using the free demo to get the full upgrade, then no, that's not kosher in the least. I don't have any issues with people finding other ways to get software they've already paid for, but if they didn't pay for it, they obviously shouldn't take advantage of it.

Well, I took a blank DVD, wrote Aperture on with a Sharpie … I think I’m entitled to a free update.

How can you be unethical, if you can download iWork'09 Trial from cnet and others, not hack it, try it as intended and Apple offering to update the apps free of charge for a non-trial version in the MAS?

Ain't nothing unethical 'bout that.

Now, if you were to install software with a crack to bypass trial restrictions and then pretent you qualify for an update, that'd be unethical. But then again, Apple doesn't require the apps to be registered, legal or not.

Have you updated to Mavericks? Mine didn't show up until I updated.
