Piece of junk

I have been waiting for an update for iWork for years.
And on last keynote..finally! YES!!! It was the best thing on the keynote.

Then I downloaded Keynote (and had to pay) to realize it was junk/crap.

Apple is letting Mac users down and tries to push IOS-apps in to Mac OS X.
I am loosing faith in Apple.
iWorks 13 is a bag of hurt...

IMHO: I think Apple should give iWork and (maybe iLife) free with all Mavericks installations. This way they will not have to support any prior OS X.

As the buyer and owner of iWork 09 legacy license in a non-US country (Denmark in Europe), I have been struggling for the last couple of days to get Mac App Store to recognize my legacy iWork 09 installation and offer free upgrades.

I have tried all suggestions like logging out and in, setup a new admin user, nothing has worked so far.

Even calling Apple Support did not render a result, I was told that old iWork 09 installations did NOT qualify for free upgrade, and that it was an error that some could upgrade and that I had to pay.

Not taking NO as an answer I tried one more thing, I set my iMac to english language AND (I think very important) my area to US. And after rebooting, HEY PRESTO, Mac App store could recognize my legacy iWork 09 installation and offer free upgrades. I had to re-enter my Apple ID password to associate those apps to my Apple ID in the future, they have downloaded for free (tied to my local danish Apple ID now) and I have changed back to danish language and Denmark as area and everything works.

So Apple, shame on you for favorizing US users and luring international users to buy...
This also worked for me and my Aperture 3 now freely upgraded to 3.5

----------

Problem is, there are people with iLife 2009 that HAVE gotten the free upgrades. It's either random, they were lucky, or something else is going on and Apple isn't being clear.

Do you have any evidence of iLife 09 freely upgraded ?

Hey guys, I had an old trial version of iWork 09 installed on my iMac and today updates updated all of the iWork apps to the latest and has unlocked them :S...but I am sure I'm not entitled to receive Pages etc for free ...

I stopped using the software after the trials ran out ages ago but now they have all unlocked on the latest.

Has anyone else had this ? I think I will have to delete them.

Edit: I still can launch the old trial software too (although it says its ran out)

Free Aperture upgrade

This free Aperture upgrade to "All Owners of Aperture" mentioned here.

Do owners of Aperture 2 get this said upgrade when install Mavric OS in their Apple computer?

Does any body know the answer? Or anybody with Aperture 2.. able to get this free Aperture upgrade from App Store?

Regards

I have Aperture 2 on an iMac that I upgraded to Mavericks. I do not see any update to 3.5 in the App Store :(

I did however get the free updates to all iLife and iWorks apps, which I had previously installed versions from disc. so that worked.

curious if the 3.5 update is showing up for other v2 owners...

Apparently one has to upgrade to Mavericks to access the upgrades to Apps?

On my MacBookAir running Snow Leopard, the AppStore says I have no updates available - neither iLife, iWork, or Aperture.

I don't want the small "enhancements" Mavericks brings (virtually nonexistence as far as I'm concerned, based on comments here and in MacWorld's review), as numerous commenters have identified problems it is causing for older apps, including my PowerPC apps that won't run on anything newer than Snow Leopard. So therefore I cannot upgrade the Apps that I would like. Nice, Apple.

Just like iOS7, it seems like 2 steps backward for every one forward, and they call this the "most compatible OS revision ever"? B.S.

why does it tell me I have to purchase the iWork apps for 17.99€ instead of it saying update?
it says update on the iLife apps though

maybe I have to update to mavericks first

This is what the apple cs wrote me:
"Please know that only Pages, Numbers, Keynote and GarageBand are free on the Mac App Store for qualifying Mac computers. OS X Mavericks required. That's the reason why you're being charge for iMovie and you're unable to see the install option for iPhoto. "

:(

If you only have a couple of PPC apps you could try running Snow Leopard in a virtual machine. Either that or partition your hard drive to dual boot Snow Leopard and Mavericks. If your MBA only has 64GB like mine, I can appreciate why you might not want to do that, though.

I have v2 and unfortunately there was no upgrade for me. Even worse, I can't open Aperture anymore, it says that my OS is the wrong version. I don't know what to do now, I guess revert back to my old OS or buy Aperture again.

Maybe I'll just take a look at Lightroom and see what it can do.

that's strange - Aperture 2 (2.1.4) still runs on my iMac and Mavericks - it was originally purchased on disc.

but still no free update showing for Aperture 3 in the App Store. I've tried all the various tricks posted here and elsewhere, still no dice :(

OSX Mavericks required .... Easy.

Registration site gone

Anyone that has ever clicked on the menu to see product registration will find the option is still there. If you click on it though, it takes you to apple's website and notifies you that the product registration site is down. I was surprised to see that it's gone all together.

Is still working ??

Hi,
since yesterday evening i do not manage to get the free upgrade.
I have 2 different mac, with 2 different account.
I manage to have the free version on one account, some hours later i tried to do on the 2nd mac, using 2nd account.
But when trying to download upgrades, i received a warning that original purchase have been done on a different apple id (i used the same trial copy of iwork)

Has apple blocked it ?

All iLife, iWork and Aperture updates applied here without issue. Nice to see how well this worked.

I had iLife 11, iWork 09 and Aperture 3.

And yes, this requires Mavericks. I tried doing the updates via Mountain Lion and it said none were available.

Good on Apple for this.

So, it should work? I thought it was odd for them to completely render the software useless from a OS X upgrade.

My Aperture 2 box just says 2.1. I wonder if there is a way to get the update to 2.1.4 in order to get it working. Looks like I'll be contacting Apple. Thanks for the info.

Seriously, that's a cool move.

Maybe I'm naive, but if certain corporations didn't treat their customers with such disdain perhaps they would see less piracy (but that is not to say they have to give their products away)...

Perhaps if "certain" companies made software that people actually wanted because it was of quality and didn't just make software people "have to have" because the rest of the world is stuck in 1997 then there would be less piracy!

You make junk and people won't buy it. You marked your junk cleverly so that those people are forced to use it in some aspect of their lives, then they will steal it!

This is proof a few unethical acquisitions are not worth the cost involved to police it properly. Apple was always easy on this front but now they are even easier. Also proof Apple's war chest is so large they don't know what to do with it.

I know this is the way via proof of how I upgraded even though I bought all the apps originally, the app store receipt system is being phased out. I didn't just blindly believe words someone supposedly has claimed Apple has said.
As far as Aperture goes: Like most people on this planet, for all I know it exists. But Adobe Lightroom users might be able to tell you a little more about it.

You've got iLife for free with every new Mac for a long time now, so you're eligible for that already if you Mac is more or less recent. If your Mac came with iLife '08 or older, it'll only run Lion for the most part and won't be anywhere near fast enough anymore to run modern workloads in iMovie and GarageBand without you either getting hot flashes or a hot coffee around the corner while waiting for it to process your project: It's time for a new Mac.

The same holds true for the iWork license, except that good guy Apple grants you that license in advance. At some point, you'll upgrade your Mac anyways and get your free iWorks license - why make a big fuzz about it and deter people from enjoying iWork in the meantime. You'll be appreciating your now-legal, hassle-free version of iWork the next time Microsoft Office requires "unethical actions" for which Microsoft very much would like to put you in jail for decades, just to keep it running.
