The upgrades were free. They just didn't announce it officially. It wasn't a decision made later, it just took time for the App Store to roll it out. You were supposed to pay for the upgrades anyway, if you didn't buy a new mac.
Mine is different. Says I have "iPhoto 8.x.x installed and not purchased through the App Store." And "would you like to buy iPhoto 9.5?" With a buy and cancel button.
I'm nevous to click buy. I haven't seen any updates yet and tried the account trick and the log out of the MAS trick. I'm wondering if I'll need to either call apple or just cut my losses.
I think what's annoying is there are people who's got updates for iLife 2009. ><
Open finder and look in the Applications folder
Find Aperture and right click the app and the Get Info
There's a special place in hell for people who take advantage of someone else's assumption of honesty.
Thanks, but what would I be looking for?

Since it says version 3.5 that means you have the MAS version as it was never distributed by Apple in any other way.

Updated my iWork apps and Aperture last night. I will have to try again for iLife.
Also, I only had iWork installed on 1 computer at home (out of 3 macs). Will my Mac app store account show the iWork suite as "purchased" so I can install it on my other computers? Or do I need to install iWork '09 on those with the disc and then update them to the new versions?
I've iLife '09 that came with my macbook pro 2010 model but I still see only buy option for ilife apps. As people suggested I signed out and in multiple times. My language preference is already english.
Can anyone help?
First of all: To get all the updates, you must be running OS X Mavericks
Get the Aperture trial from the source: Apple
If after installing you can't see the updates, the trick that worked for me is to change the system language to english -> Reboot -> Check for updates again -> Change the language to your preferred one -> Reboot.
BTW, I love this new philosophy.
I purchased iWork 09 as a DVD. It is installed but when I log on to the App Store it tells me to pay 19.99 for them. Is this normal? Or will that be updated soon?
Thanks
Apple has never taken a strong stance or action against piracy in the past.
Wait - I'm a bit confused. Does this apply to all software that's available through the MAS, or to Apple's own software only?
IE, I sometimes directly email people signed copies of Battery Status for one reason or another. These are often special builds that are time bombed (IE, it'll stop working a week or two after I email it) that I provide just because they wanted a demo and will be buying a few hundred copies if it works for them. Will the MAS see this special time bombed build and then tell them they've bought the app and offer to allow them to download the ordinary version for free via the MAS?
I suppose I could start using another certificate for my time bombed builds or something... but that sounds like a pain...
The new apps get tied to your AppleID so if you sign in to the MAS using that AppleID they will show in the purchases tab.

You need to have iLife'11 on your Mac to get the updates.
Doesn't look like the route you're suggesting is one supported by Apple.Originally Posted by Gpulvi: ...

Gotta reinstall my old (paid) iWork 08 now... Will be nice to get a free update!
I updated my post. I didn't get the "would you like to buy?" part. I did get a bill (and after filing the "Problem" issue, got refunds for Pages and iMovie -- but the automatic system won't issue refund for Keynote) ... but I'll wait a few days and see what Apple does.
