Nobody? The Surface may not be selling in iPad-record numbers, but it's selling quite well. It wasn't doing well at launch, mind you. But that was years ago.
I'm loving my brand new Surface Book and I've been an Apple user since 1985. I'm an Apple stockholder as well.

I have a 27" late 2012 and it happens twice! Almost exactly 2 years apart. I have paperwork to prove it. Both Apple paid for and fixed without issue.
Just saying because that "5 year" stipulation stinks and I'll end up back there year 6.

They are really nice. Am on the fence about getting one as my Windows machine. My uncle loves his.

I believe the 4.0Ghz i7 will throttle a bit.

How can I tell if the CPU is throttling? I always hear people mentioning it, not just with the iMac, but am not sure how to identify it.

I have an out of warranty BMW X3 that has had several major design flaw failures, the last being a stripped plastic gear inside the transfer case actuator. A plastic effing gear inside a transmission related part! i found an amateur youtube video showing how to fix it and avoid the $1500 dealer repair. That video has over 90,000 views. SO if you think Apple is bad, just remember the **** show that is all other companies.

Except nobody is buying Surfaces, Microsoft even stopped releasing the sales numbers.

The Surface line is so crap that Microsoft even had to apologize publicly and they have to lie to people about it in their presentations.

Lots of people reuturning their Sb and Sp because of bugs like sleep and bad pen input.

Uhh … konqerror is just making series of hinge-related puns here. Relax.

I had my imac fixed 3 months ago from the apple store (in Italy) and I didnt have to pay nothing in the end!
Glad that apple assistance still so reliable!

Stuff like this makes me sad, when you have the top Apple people on stage saying how they make THE very best devices they possibly can.
They put cheap plastic items in key points of the design.
This has more and more turned me off Apple in recent years.
I used to genuinely believe what they said, but more and more people are pointing out just how poor and badly designed some of their hardware is.
I'm not talking about things like choices over lack or ports or screen/camera resolution. I'm talking about actual construction choices being poor.

If you google 'plastic vs metal washers' you'll actually get a lot of valid points for going with plastic. Perhaps this part hinged on a few key people's decision, and they chose plastic over metal for those exact reasons.

Oh yes, I'm not for one moment saying I have anything against plastic.
I've said many times how I think Plastic is actually a better product for many uses that metals.
Plastic phones for example make a LOT more sense than metal ones and dent, scratch and bend.
Unfortunately thanks to Apple there is now the false perception that metal = quality, plastic = cheap, which is just a crazy made up concept. All materials have their good and bad points and are more or less suitable for any given purpose. The whole "Ohhh Quality" thing is just a stupid human think, mixed with a lot of hype and marketing.

Light wrist watch = must be cheap, heavy = good.
Heavy laptop = must be cheap, light = good.
Light desk clock = must be cheap, heavy = good.

not if you're in warranty you shouldn't

Even after the Warranty, if it is found it is a default on the manufacturers side, it should be fixed.

You're right. You should just abandon the whole Mac ecosystem. I hear Dell and Acer make excellent products. The sooner you jump ship the better...

Well this is the dumbest thing I have read today, lets see if it holds the position as the morning unfolds. The childish comment aside, just because I want my products to function does not mean I want to jump ship. I expect my thousand + $$ computer to work and get defects fixed. That is just customer service, when you make customers pay for your mistake, it just looks bad.

So my situation is complicated.....

I had to pay $600 for a new 27" iMac screen when mine flipped down and the entire iMac fell flat on it's face!! I was reaching behind it and gently pushed the screen forward to plug something in, it flipped down quickly and fell flat.

Genius bar replaced the LCD display.

I had NO idea this was a flaw in the design and it explains why it fell so quickly.

Do I have any hope of a refund?

I think my 2002 lamp iMac screen hinges works flawlessly...
Can't beat 80s-90s built quality... those were the days

alas, no it is the same part haha

Ugh. If it's the same part then this repair coverage should be infinite. I don't get why they can't just replace it with a metal part that won't break. If I have to repair it again they better do it for free, no matter how many times I bring it in. I don't even change the screen tilt.

Dude! Is Microsoft that much of a dog whistle for you? Seems a bit... wait for it... unhinged.
You're ranting about a clever play on words:
"You did it wrong: Some people's purchasing decisions hinge on things like this. A quality defect might tilt them towards Microsoft, who is falling over to get more sales of the Surface Studio. Hopefully Apple will lean back and look at their direction from a different angle, realizing that their profits today is only being propped up by the iPhone." @konquerror nicely done sir, nicely done.

Thank you. I almost died when I saw that response. Was a GREAT play on words.
You know people on here... they miss the simplest of things as soon as they see something that mentions another brand or doesn't worship Apple.

I was sitting watching tv and I heard a loud pop. I went to my computer and sure enough the hinge was broken. It just happened. The earliest appointment to take it in is in 3 days at our apple store.
[doublepost=1480609452][/doublepost]I fixed mine without going to the Apple Store. It only took a 10 cent box to hold it up. :)

People keep missing the point of my post. I acknowledge that Apple's products aren't perfect. I need to rephrase what I said.

That's cool. I'm not sure I can bring myself to buy Apple, regardless. Anyway, I'm the type of person happy with an inexpensive Chromebook, because that suits my needs now.

I'm saddened by reviews of the new MacBooks: for numerous reasons people have pointed out.

Here is a the explanation and fix... Shows you how apple intended for this part to break after a few years

I brought my 27 iMac late 2013 for a hinge repair at Apple Store (with Genius Appointment). They asked for $103.00, so I came back home with the still broken hinge, and the iMac still sits tilted in a fixed way. They said, maybe in the short future will be a program to replace for free the hinge.

Hello,

Im in California and I just took my Late-2012 27" iMac to the apple store today 12/11/16 as my hinge is loose and the screen just faces down. According to the first post my iMac should have been covered but when the genius bar took a look at it they said it would cost $107+tax so either the orignal post is false/not true that my iMac is covered for up to 5yrs or the apple store hasn't received this internal message to do it for free.
