Ok well good news for Apple is that youre a vanishingly small market of consumer. I doubt they will feel the loss, lmao. For real users who might use this for real work (not simulating gamma ray bursts like you apparently are), this will be a damn capable piece of hardware.

What real works? Jerking around with iMovie?

Not one of the people here who have posted negative stuff about this has seen it, or played with it or anything else. But you don't like it anyway. What a load! You'd complain if you won a million dollars! This is a true Apple product. Innovative, ground breaking and forward thinking in every sense of the word. Is it for you? Don't know and care even less. In fact I think it's really funny how some are getting their knickers in such twist over it. Hahahaha!
Don't like it...get a PC!
You all bitched about floppies, then SCSI, then whatever else Apple threw away...but you are still alive and getting your work done. I'll bet faster than ever. So give it a break. Stop bitching till you have something real to bitch about.
As for the "it's gonna cost too much" brigade....you know this because you're obviously clairvoyant right!
I am definitely not a fanboy at all....but this thing looks so cool and new. How could you not be even a bit excited?
Call yourselves Pro's? Indeed...Pro complainers

LMFAO. Pro first-world bitches.

I kinda like it and then I don't. It's nothing more than a mini on steroids. I'd rather have a bigger Mac with space for upgrades. What about upgrades for GPUs and possibly CPUs? I'm looking forward to the teardown once this reaches the streets.

By that definition, ANY computer with more power than a Mini is "a Mini on steroids".

Obviously, there is no comparison to a Mini. As for upgrades - I don't know anyone who has "upgraded" a computer in the last decade. Upgradeable computers are a myth. Assuming you configure a new computer with what you want when you buy it, by the time it needs "upgrading", ALL the components are obsolete. New graphics cards don't work with your motherboard, a new motherboard requires a new CPU, new RAM is faster and takes advantage of the new bus, etc etc. Don't EVER plan on upgrading a computer, especially an Apple. Just buy a new one. The old one will have Apple's traditionally high resale value, and you will get all the latest features, ports, etc on the new one.

I'm not adding anything, as a Pro they are already right here next to me x2. You need to understand what a Pro is before trying to scare away the amateurs. BTW, I don't stack anything on top of my old MacPro, I treat it with respect and leave it the ******* alone.

My GTech raid sits very well on top of my MacPro, and looks fine there too.

Now that, plus another one to account for the lost 4TB of drive space, will have to sit next to the MacPro, if it's even affordable at all.

To me this tells me Apple is just giving the tower guys and Mac pro guys yet another slap in the face.
This is not waht I call a tower. Tower and Mac pro was always about being able to upgrade it. Not just look pretty.
Yet another form over function dumb ass move by apple.

Except that out of the box, this Mac Pro will satisfy the needs of 95% of the pro user base without needing to expand anything. The remaining 5% is not worth losing any sleep over.

Where are you getting these baseless claims? Clearly, you've shown you know nothing about professional needs, you don't speak for us and your tactless comments are immature and pointless. Thank you for making my ignore list useful.

You need a time out.

Well said.

This is not a "working man's machine".

It's the new "poser-mac". It's a rich man's desktop accent piece that they can brag about. It's meant to be displayed on top of a shiny desk without work piled on it.

It's also the only reason for lightning bolts existence.

My guess $2999.99 for the starter piece of ***t model and $3999.99 for a nicely equipped model. But get your credit card out for all the external hard drives you'll have to plug into this "beautiful piece of artwork".

I'll wait and buy a top end mac pro.

Seriously? :(

LOL I can't wait till they release the prices! "Its a $10 thousand dollar trash can!" it is going to be comedic gold......

btw I like it haha.

Additionally, we've invested thousands in time and money as we earn a living from these systems, have been for 10+ years. It takes a lot of money and time to move to another platform and master new applications and workflows crucial for out work. This is not about gaming or "Mission Control", this is about professional grade systems that will help improve our work, not hinder it. Excellent points.

By your logic, you'll never buy a new computer. That's fine, just keep upgrading your Mac Pro until you can't anymore, then go buy the next product. What did you want Apple to introduce? A taller old Mac Pro case? More ports? More of the same?

This thing's going to be crazy-expensive. Not because of the technology/design, but because of the USA union labor. Don't buy one made on a Monday...you might find a beer can in there!

Do we know it's union labor? I don't think Apple has even announced what state the factory is in (lots of "Right to Work" states) or worker:robot labor split.

I think its way to early to speculate on such things or use it as a wedge. I want one of these but if Apple's entry price is where the existing MP's top of the line price is there won't be too many people working in the factory, union or not, because orders will be slim. I'm pretty sure Tim Cook & co. understand these things better than anyone on MR, so I suspect the new MP will start in the mid $2Ks for a quad core 3.x Ghz, 256GB SSD, and 8GB RAM.

I think it'll be a fraction of the cost of the last mac pros. I just know it.

True, but to the freelance design/photographer/videographer that's a HELL of a lot of money, especially when there are valid concerns about their choice of GPUs. Will be interesting to see how much work those drivers get.

I guess I just see it as tools of the trade. It's expensive, but you don't necessarily have to buy it all in one go, and you buy what you can afford, which is based on your cashflow derived from the business you do. That's the case whether computer or power tools, industrial machinery or whatever.

The Mac Cube replaced by the Mac Tube.

My colleague suggested that in a server room they could be a mounted in a large wine rack. :)

The new Mac Pro rack mount :p

They could have options.

If more of the same means functional and useful I imagine many would like that. Is changing just for the sake of it a good enough reason?

Whaaaaat??? )) Oh man, who the hell needs internal legacy stuff today!!!???

Embrace the future!!!:apple:

A few since it is part of the percent that we are living in.

Well, the base model of the current system is $2500, no way it gets any cheaper than that give the GPUs and CPU they are using, and I expect it to cost quite a bit more, unless they really really dumb it down.

Totally disagree. A slap in the face would have been the current machine with no innovation and just a spec bump. Do you think this new Mac Pro was designed overnight? Good grief people, Apple took so long because they did their research and spent a sh$#load of money developing what they think is a revolutionary product for the Pro User.

And because none of us on this board can go into our garages and create new computers for the masses, we have to trust that Apple knows what they are doing and for the most part, they always deliver. I am excited at the mere fact they went back to square one and innovated. And I have faith that this will not be priced out of most of our budgets, they know their market and they know what we are used to paying. The new 13" Macbook Air even dropped in price.

Why not just chill our for the next few months and see what the pricing is and let people who have one of these (like the Black magic people) let us know if they like it and it works well? So far the only actual hands-on review is from BM and they LOVE it.

so this thing is half of size of my slim Dell desktop ?

I wonder how easy it is to upgrade internally.

Industry standards have to change.

IDE became SATA.

Standard drives became SSD.

Floppy became CD/DVD's.

VGA became DVI became HDMI.

CRT became LCD.

Wifi B and G became N and now AC.

Serial cables and PS/1/2 ports became USB. Apple wants everything to be thunderbolt because it creates unity. It can carry any type of data. Imagine if audio video and data were all just one type of connection, nothing else. That would be amazing.

Things need to change for the better, and it's always Apple that gets attacked for leading such change.

Dropping optical drives for example. Discs are stupid like floppy disks. I'm sure the first computer not to have Floppy drives got a negative in it's review because of it.

Better technology will catch on, like always. Just wait. We can't use old tech just because it is widely supported and nothing else. This has expandable RAM and storage. PCIe is faster than SATA so that is good.

Embrace the future. My opinion. :)

I agree in many ways. But the one thing I don't like about the new Mac Pro is the lack of internal storage. Yes you can have tons of external storage (Just like the last Mac Pro) but because Apple is hellbent on iCloud (Big Brother anyone?) they give you jack for internal storage. I should be able to install at the very least 6-8 TB of internal storage in this new Mac Pro. How much internal storage is this thing gonna have? Just enough for the OS and a handful of Apps?

When Apple introduced the first iMac one of the big focus points was clearing away cable clutter on and around your desk. Even the now previous gen Mac Pro relieved much cable cluttered due to the high amount of internal expandability. How much internal expandability can we do in the new Mac Pro? Doesn't seem like much besides more Ram. Everything else is external. Yes I realize it's a desktop and you're not going to take it everywhere. Even so the lack of internal expandability is disappointing.

The new Mac Pro is amazing in many ways and a great feat of engineering no doubt. But the internal storage issue is the one gripe I can find so far.

Yes I did view the Mac Pro webpage and watched the keynote.

Um, send it to them via the interwebz?? FTP much? (guess not)

How old are you? Are you serious? You do realize a Blu-Ray is anywhere from 25-50GB's. Sending my clients finished work via the "interwebz"?
