Apple Offers New Dedicated Podcast App for iOS

This is absolutely great! I've already subscribed to numerous podcasts.

Big question though.. how can i sync the podcasts on the iOS app with podcasts on iTunes on my Mac? Sames goes for iTunes U.

Does this new app conflict with podcasts in Music?
 
This thing is a turd... They should slap a "BETA" tag on it.

2 more issues:

1) It is playing podcasts newest to oldest... Never had this problem in the Music App.

2) There is no icon showing podcasts that have been partially played... Never had this problem in the Music App either.

I only ever listen to podcasts on my iPhone, never on my Mac or iPad - but I can see why this would be an issue to those that do.

In fact, I personally prefer it this way - as I can subscribe to video podcasts on my iPad and audio podcasts on my iPhone.
 
I completely do not get how this is supposed to work!

I’ve set up subscriptions in the app, and I have subscriptions in iTunes, which are pretty much identical. The unplayed episodes in iTunes are syncing with the podcasts in the Music app. I have 14 unplayed episodes in iTunes and only 2 unplayed episodes in the Podcasts app.

I thought that iTunes would no longer put podcasts into the Music app? Am I supposed to turn-off podcast syncing in iTunes? I thought, perhaps wrongly, that my subscriptions would transfer to iTunes then I could sync my iPad and they would transfer to my iPad. No?

I am running Mountain Lion, so not sure if my version of iTunes (still 10.6.3 though) might be missing some functionality.
 
I have it set to keep only unplayed episodes but after I play them they won't delete unless Ido it manually
 
The more I use it, the more I'm finding faults with it, like it saying it cannot download/find podcast. Freezing for 10 seconds or so. Definitely needs a bit or work has at present it's not up to the usual Apple quality.

It will be interesting to see when the next update will be and if it will fix the problems.

I for one like it. Podcasts are now easier to get to (for me at least). I like the clean interface - much nicer than the iPad music app. I also like the "radio" feature, allowing you to easily browse and quickly discover new new podcasts.
Agreed that this should be a built-in app though - but then again, much like iBooks and iTunesU, not everyone uses them.

Ha! Just discovered the reel-to-reel animation and other controls... Very nice :)
 
2 questions:

What do the 'tortoise and hare' icons do on the screen which shows the analogue tape deck?

If I am subscribed to a podcast and have downloaded episodes 1 and 2 - I can't see an option to delete episode 1 anywhere?

found a couple of issues with podcasts

- limit to 50mb over cellular, a wifi only switch would be better
- links from websites dont work, even though they do in desktop and iOS itunes apps.
- icloud sync (whats been played/downloaded etc) for restore requirements


as this is only v1, I'm sure these will be sorted.

Tortoise = half speed playback, hare = double speed playback.

To delete downloaded podcasts, just swipe left or right across them in the list, then tap delete.

I am having a consistent problem with this app. I have every subscription set to auto download. When I open the app, I see the unplayed list refresh but none of the episodes are downloading. Both on wifi and 3G.

Anyone experience this?

...how do you set this to keep unplayed episodes? I can only see settings to mark as 'played or unplayed'?

Auto Download allows you to automatically download new podcast episodes as they become available while the Podcasts app is running.

Also, not sure that I've seen this feature in the actual app, except as the "unplayed episodes" list in text view (which is newest-oldest order, not oldest-newest):

Auto Play allows you to continue listening to new podcast episodes without you needing to interact with the Podcasts app. When an episode reaches its end, Auto Play will begin playback of the next most recent unplayed episode. Once the most recent episode has played to the end, playback will stop.

What are the functional differences when using this app on iOS5 vs iOS6?

I noticed a few buttons missing on the iOS5 version!
 
I have mixed feelings towards the playback screen. I like the nostalgic look to it, but I don't like that the controls are once again in the middle of the iPad's screen. iOS 5 moved the music app controls to the side so you could control it while gripping both edges.
