Right, same as iTunes does when you first subscribe. Once it downloads a few cycles the old ones go away.

Have you actually seen any go away?

The difference between this app and iTunes in this respect is that you can delete undownloaded podcasts from the list in iTunes.

Right, this doesn't work like iTunes at all...it works like Zune Desktop if anything.

Am I missing something really obvious, or does this app actually not have support for playlists from iTunes?

Nope. If they'd labeled this an alpha...

Oh well. Hopefully they'll add features and make it worthwhile for me to use one day. Nevermind the alpha, It's the omega for this app for me for now! :D (*deletes*)

 Yeah...well I wouldn't care much except for the whole "we're forcing you to use this in iOS 6" thing :(

The App/functionality I've been waiting for since my first iPhone

Finally I don't need to sync with my Mac everyday to update all my podcast subscriptions - brilliant! At last - computer free iOS. This is the app I've been waiting for since my first iPhone.

Happy that the podcasts are available throughout both the Music player and the Podcast app - and that it automatically imports your podcasts already in the Music app. I still prefer to play from the Music app as I create temporary playlists with the podcasts.

Good that it syncs played status with iTunes on your computer, but it needs to sync the Played/Unplayed status with the in-built Music app, OR add the facility to create playlists in the Podcast App.

Your podcasts are all available in the Music app where you can create playlists with them, or sync playlists from iTunes - I do. Only minor issue the Podcast app doesn't (yet) sync internally the played/unplayed status with the Music app - you have to sync with iTunes, which syncs the music and podcast app and they sort each other out.

We are all gathered here for the loss of Instacast...

We only knew ye for a short wild, but you were a reliable and honest friend.

Would anyone like to say any words before we lower the casket?

Doesn't seem to be finding new episodes for podcasts. I'm subscribed to the verge mobile podcast and episode 5 isn't showing up, but when I search for it, it does show up. Easier to just find and download it manually, though I shouldn't have to do that

If this app replaces the functionality of the music app in iTunes...it'll be a pretty big inconvenience, and a step back. Primarily since I'd have to use this AND the Audible app to get my subscription podcast (Opie & Anthony). And of course that doesn't sync with my Mac. The audible podcasts show up, and new shows download, but they're not playable for whatever reason.

Yes, earlier in this thread, I mentioned that Audible podcasts (O&A) do not play using this app. I usually listen to them on my iPod Classic so it's not much of a problem for me at this time but it could be a problem later on. It's the only way I listen to their show.

I must be holding it wrong...

...but I just can't get this app to do what I want.

I'm subscribed to about 10 podcasts in iTunes, but only a couple have unplayed episodes.

When I sync, this new app only shows the unplayed episodes, with no indication that I'm subscribed to anything else - and there's no way to get it to refresh the feeds?

So if a new episode comes out, here's what I have to do:

1. Refresh iTunes, download the new episode.
2. Sync
3. Go into the app, click on the new episode.
4. Touch the tiny cog.
5. Change 'Subscription' to 'On'
6. Tell it to download new episodes.
7. Delete the ones I've already played, since it isn't realising that.
8. Wait until the app feels like doing a check, I guess.
9. Repeat for each podcast.

So there's no way to get a list of all my subscribed podcasts, no way to force a check for new episodes....

Well, at least I didn't waste my money on Downcast, it was well worth it! ;)

Downloading Subscribed to Podcasts on Wifi or 3G

Hello,

I have looked all through these posts and can't work out if the Podcasts app will download <50MB podcasts over 3G or is it clever enough to wait until it as a wifi connection?

There are quite a few podcasts below 50MB so I'd get through my cap very quickly.

Thanks, Daniel

It appears it will. Not having an option to turn this off is a big problem.

Okay so how does the podcast listening sync work?

Do I just subscribe to the podcast on 2 devices, match the settings, download the episode (or let it auto download the same episode) and then it should just keep in sync?

Just had a thought. They do mean iCloud syncing right? I've not plugged my phone into a computer for months!

This looks like an alpha has been rushed released when clearly not ready. There's many problems with the user interface and performance that should have been ironed out before it was released to the public. There's also some severe stability problems - for example some of my podcasts have been deleted for no apparent reason.

It also looks as if the programmer responsible for it had no prior experience of podcasts prior to beginning the task.

It doesn't. Just manage your podcasts on your PC and sync to both iOS devices from there. They fixed a bug introduced in iOS 5 so that you can now manually download podcasts from "iTunes" on iOS and then they'll sync correctly with iTunes.

My auto download works fine. The cloud doesn't want to save my spot when I go from one device to another. I'll stick with Downcast until this thing is working properly.

He's probably using the iOS 6 beta. Podcast were not included in the Music app.

That isn't true. Podcasts were found in the More tab where they have been for a while. Once Podcasts app was install, then it removed Podcasts from the Music app.

Oh wait...you're saying iOS 6 DOES have podcast support in the music program? That you hopefully DON'T have to use this program?

I still have podcasts in the Music app on iOS 5 on the iPhone. I haven't seen anyone else claim they were removed on iOS 5.

EDIT: Sorry. You are talking about iOS 6. You're right. Podcasts were removed from the iTunes (Store) app, not the Music app.

I never connect my iPad or iPhone to a computer. Everything is done over the air now, and I have iTunes match for music.

When you say "It doesn't" where are you getting that from? The Apple support site says
"Playback Sync automatically allows you to sync your playback position to all of your iOS devices with the Podcasts app installed, using your Apple ID. In order for Playback Sync to sync your playback position, you must be signed in to the iTunes Store using the same Apple ID on your iOS devices."

Are you just saying that it doesn't work right now? It certainly infers that over the air playback sync is in the app, much like iBooks.

Out of curiosity does the Podcast option reappear in the Music app if you delete this app?
