The majority of the people here don’t actually seemed to understand that AirPower was not a charging mat that only has three stationery coils, each for one product to be placed specifically at where the coil is. You were supposed to be able to charge it no matter which part of the Airpower mat you placed your device on.

Exactly, which would have required a refrigeration unit to keep cool with those overlapping coils.

Cmon they tried. If Apple couldn’t make it work you know it was pretty hard

Attempting to mix two wireless charging protocols on a single pad was a tough sell in my mind from the beginning. And let's remember, this is a charger. Who cares this passionately about a charger when they're already so widely available?

Good. Time to move on. Better than releasing a compromised product. This supports my theory that the recent AirPod update was really meant for 2018 (devices were manufactured then and Apple isn't known to hold inventory) and they wanted to release them both last year. Once AirPower wasn't happening, they had to push them out. Unfortunately, AirPods 1.5 may be sold alongside AirPods 2 later this year.

Side note: Now that it’s officially cancelled, can we get some sort of round-up for devices that are similar? I’ve been holding out for AirPower, but I obviously need to go third party now. I’d like to de-clutter my nightstand.

This is incredible. Apple should’ve kept going with it, they have got resources to put into it. I can’t believe they would announce the product and continually use references to the product in new products and then end up cancelling it. This is just bonkers.

I know that it’s associated with an embarrassment right now, but I hope Apple doesn’t give up on the “AirPower” name. They could name the ability for Apple products to charge wirelessly “AirPower” rather than a charging mat. Might be a few years before Apple gets over the sting of this embarrassment though.

I can at least appreciate the apology from Dan Riccio, that at least shows that they knew that they had some customers who were interested in this product. If it wasn’t ready for the market, then it wasn’t ready. And I can respect that.

Very unsatisfying. Disappointed, but an accessory at the end of the day. Best charting mat available?

Give Apple credit, they pulled the plug on a product they could not produce to their satisfaction. That is much better than throwing good money after bad. Though the concept of the AirPower sounds very interesting, Apple cannot produced to their specs it is smart they stopped it; much business sense. Before bashing Apple look at other companies that have dropped products, think GM, Ford, Chrysler, Motorola, the list goes on. Then there are companies with too much hubris not to let go of doomed products then they lose tons of money; remember the saying “Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
Yeah pull the plug of Tim cook too.

Seriously, bending iPads pro, buggy keyboards, airpower out... This is not Apple...

Somebody enlighten me... what was the big deal about an Apple wireless charger? Like, what was somebody waiting for this instead of just using something else? It's not like something that actually makes a physical connection with your device to charge it—what was the expectation that Apple was going to do something different or special?

Some people simply prefer Apple products. It typically means higher grade materials and better overall quality than the cheap wireless chargers you get on Amazon or elsewhere.

You're essentially asking "What is the big deal about an iPhone when you can get a cheaper Huawei smartphone that is even more capable"?

Again, it's preference. I like the Apple ecosystem and I'm willing to make sacrifices to stay on it. Would I have purchased the AirPower from Apple if it worked well? - You bet I would have. I've had multiple wireless chargers for my iPhone and they all feel so flimsy and crappy. You sort of have to try and position the phone correctly. Otherwise, it won't charge. The idea behind AirPower was to allow charging from different placements anywhere on the mat.

I can’t. I can’t figure out how this is scary or concerning. They were trying to design a product that had too many problems and they clearly couldn’t figure it out, so they cancelled it.
The point is why were they having too many problems when other manufactures haven't! There are plenty of wireless charges out now. Did they not have the expertise to do this? Is there something inherently concerning about wireless charging that they don't want the liability? (Exploding over-heating) Could they not make it affordable? Did they learn they shouldn't be announcing products until they have a clear view of the viability? I could just go on and on and on.
