Apple Officially Cancels AirPower

Well hopefully Apple can just put out a standard wireless charger, at this point they've produced products that use wireless charging for years now, and I'm sure many would finally like an original Apple charging base...

I've mentioned this before, but the announcement of this product influenced my decision to purchase some iPhone X devices and Apple Watches. I am frustrated and I feel a little deceived. I don't think this is bait and switch, but I do think this was used to raise stock prices and help sell their new device. Something about this seems illegal.

Wow, that's quite a big deal and a very public failure. Still, good of them to pull the plug if it just wasn't working out.

I'm personally very happy with my Nomad base station (with Apple Watch charger). In a way, I found it more interesting than the AirPower since it allows the watch to be in nightstand mode.

I'd be interested if it wasn't covered in dead animal.

this Boondogle was caused by overly optimistic  Marketing. I'm sure the engineers working on the project already had their doubts about it.

There are no chargers out right now that can do what apple said the AirPower would do. None. They obviously had issues with making it do that.

Have you done a search for instance on Amazon for
"Wireless Charger for Multiple Devices"
You might be surprised.

Highly unusual for them to announce something and never ship it. I was probably not going to buy one anyway due to the presumed high price of $149+ but still it looked like a good product from the promo they gave.

Good thing they stuck standard Qi wireless in the Apple Watch Series 3 and newer, iPhone and Airpods so no one was stuck waiting for this to use wireless charging on those devices, there's certainly no shortage of good Qi chargers out there already.

Why cancel the order for the Airpods 2? C'mon be real, there are already other device in the market and lots of cars can offer integrated wireless charging pads.

WOW - Major fail on Apple's part. I would have even been happy with a charging mat that had a dedicated spot for each device to charge. I ended up buying a Samsung Wireless charger for my iPhone X and I am really happy with it but I would have rather purchased an Apple product.

Apparently, these issues leading to the cancellation was due to heat. It was designed so that you could place an iPhone, AirPods, or Apple Watch on any portion of the mat to have the device charge, which meant multiple overlapping chargers must be included.

I have a feeling that “AirPods 1.5” will still be sold along side “AirPods 2”. The extra features, maybe water proofing, noise cancellation etc simply costing more money. Especially when the addition of a simple wireless charging case pushed up the price of “AirPods 1.5”.

It’s been the Apple way in recent times. We shall soon see!

That's a good point, especially since they just came out. I am holding out for a much more substantial upgrade.
