I'm happy that they officially canceled it. When I upgrade to wireless stuff this fall (AirPods, new iPhone) I'll just buy whatever cheap but highly rated chargers there are. People thinking this is some major failure of apple are just liking to swipe at them, but the truth is, if it doesn't work to their standards, it doesn't work. It's like there's a lot of kids on these boards that really have no idea how big a company apple is, or how hard it is to do any of the things they do well. They also always give google or samsung for hardware and software mistakes an easy pass. It's easy to hate on apple.

FYI for those still looking for a good wireless charging pad for all 3 devices at the same time -
Google Express has a great deal on the Nomad Base Station Apple Watch Edition. Usually $140, but only $119, plus if it is your first Google Express purchase you get an addition $20 off, making it just over $100 after tax.

Not to mention it is backordered everywhere (even Nomad won't ship it until April 30), but Google Express (shipped via Best Buy) will get it to you by April 2. You can also order via Best Buy but you won't get that extra $20 off. Everywhere else is backordered (and often still at that $140 MSRP).

Not linking because I don't want to appear to be advertising. Just Google "Nomad - Wireless Charging Pad for iPhone and Apple Watch"

Incredible. The biggest tech company in the world can't build a charging mat.
It wasn't a usual charging mat. It reportedly had 22 charging coils put in three layers that were being controlled by a special chip and a dedicated operating system to manage the workload. No charging mat on the market has ever reached that level of complexity. This project was just too ambitious for 2018. I bet, once the efficiency of Qi charging improves, it may be revived either by Apple or any other tech company.

Just make a regular single-component charging pad.

That's not ground breaking. Besides, I already have a Yootech and an Anker.

LOL... what the hell is going on over there? Let's make a bunch of wireless products and leave it up to third parties to figure out how to charge them.

Third parties don't have to "figure out" how to charge them; they're already been doing that for years. Qi is a widely used standard.

There goes my hopes of waking up to discover it for sale.

While I'm disappointed at this news, I think I just heard my wallet let out a huge sigh of relief.

Well hopefully Apple can just put out a standard wireless charger, at this point they've produced products that use wireless charging for years now, and I'm sure many would finally like an original Apple charging base...
I don't think I would buy a 'standard' wireless charger. Apple made some big claims of fixing the issues that other wireless chargers have now yet couldn't follow through. I think I'll just stick with lightning cables a little while longer.

I've mentioned this before, but the announcement of this product influenced my decision to purchase some iPhone X devices and Apple Watches. I am frustrated and I feel a little deceived. I don't think this is bait and switch, but I do think this was used to raise stock prices and help sell their new device. Something about this seems illegal.

Sweet baby Jesus you cant be serious....

Maybe you could start a class action, seems to be trendy.

Indeed, I agree with a poster here.
Just drop the, it has to be done the difficult Apple way.
Make something much simpler, much cheaper, give it Apple branding, and of course just price it a little higher than a generic one.
At least there would be one Apple fans can buy.
Hell just get something already being made, get the maker to tweak it a bit and apple brand it. job done.

Feels like Apple is such a slow juggernaut they can't react at any speed and get anything simple done quickly anymore.

It would be nice if Apple could at least issue a software update to show the charge level of other connected devices on the iPhone display while charging. Then we could at least get that neat integration. No reason why that can’t exist without AirPower.

Yep you’d think no one was wirelessly charging their iPhones. Charging pads are like 10 dollars. I’m not sure how Apple expected AirPower to do that well anyways. Stands are preferable.

This

I prefer a stand... and for the self proclaimed engineers here, what charging pad allows you to charge the watch anywhere on the pad?

Not bothered either way by this, carry on Apple

I'm pissed they waited until AFTER the AirPods wireless charging were launched. I purchased the Wireless charging case with my AirPods specifically for the future AirPower functionality. I have almost no interest in buying some 3rd party wireless charger.
agreed -- has to be intentional.
