Probably I can be wrong, but why in all places where the news is reported there isn't a single link to an official Apple communication?
All only write Apple officially cancelled, without mentioning any link to the Apple source

They sent an email.

That would be a hell of a lot more difficult than airpower.
A while back I read about a company working on something like that it was “energous” I think. How ever I don’t know it they actually achieved it.

This is without contest, the biggest tech blunder ever in history. Apple’s reputation is done. Finished. People will remember this for ages. How can people trust Apple anymore after this? Think about how people purchased an iPhone just to use AirPower. From now on I will never ever trust Apple with anything. Nothing. It’s over. Unless it’s physically in a store, it’s all vaporware from now on. Sorry, Apple, doesn’t matter if you have a shipping date. Unless it’s in a store, it’s vaporware.
Get real will you.
Facebook Phone
Microsoft Kin
Amazon Fire phone

Not vapor but blunders none the less.

And this is not even Apple’s biggest tech blunder.

Mac Pro is next. "Due to engineering problems, the product did not meet our standards." I guess this is why secrecy around Apple products is so important.

OMG it's literally a frickin' coil of wire!

Apple was trying to make a multi coil beam forming power mat that could charge multiple devices in any location on the map. That's very different than, one or even two coils for two devices.

They bit off more than they could chew and failed at it. :/

Its not something i will lose sleep over but in 2017; quote

"This is not possible with current standards, but our team knows how to do this"
- Phil Schiller, talking about AirPower

Obviously he was talking a pile of crap because they didnt't know how to do it.

They clearly knew how to do it. There were demo's of AirPower.

What they did not know how to do was mass produce it with acceptable tolerances, low enough radiation, or heat.

Because no company in the world posts bad news on their own website.

Bad news is always sent out to media contacts on a Friday or during the weekend.

Apple shot itself in the foot announcing AirPower way back in 2017 when it clearly wasn’t even close to ready. No one today would be disappointed had Apple not announced AirPower because it wouldn’t even be a thing. Shame, though. Hopefully they learned a lesson here.

Two reasons - once it comes out, has a negative impact on re-sell value potentially.

New iPhone will have wireless charging built in anyway. You might not even need the mat after all.

I hadn’t thought of it like that. That said, I doubt I’d use my phone to charge my Apple Watch routinely overnight. More of something you can do in a pinch.

"How to do it" means "how to make it into a product that doesn't burst into flames."

I know how to dunk a basketball by your logic.

Our magical AirPower is not to be.
[It is so magical, that it has vanished!]/s

Attention All Shoppers! Attention All Shoppers! Attention All Shoppers!

For those that fought so hard to defend the AirPower illusion on the Internet -- all self-appointed indefatigable members of the ADF -- we will provide, free of charge, three Apple stickers to each, signed by the senior executive team.

Apple really should go back to Steve Jobs’ mantra of secrecy. Announce something when it’s ready to be released right there on stage or in a few weeks at most.

This was such an unforced error. Apple didn’t have to announce this at all in 2017. They could have just announced Qi charging like every other phone was adopting and work quietly on AirPower. Totally unnecessary embarrassment.

The majority of the people here don’t actually seemed to understand that AirPower was not a charging mat that only has three stationery coils, each for one product to be placed specifically at where the coil is. You were supposed to be able to charge it no matter which part of the Airpower mat you placed your device on.

I don't think that's the difficult part. To me it seems harder to have each charging item communicate its battery status to the mat which then searches for an iPhone that's also charging on it and send the information to that to be displayed.

Without that part, AirPower is literally just 20 coils jammed together and each having its own safety cut-off. Seems easy.

No one is going to be mamed because Apple cancelled a product.
