This is what happens when you announce months products before they're ready or scheduled to launch. Same with services (see last keynote). Apple can't be trusted under Timmy anymore.

Ah, the use of "Timmy." We all know what that means... Very creative. Can't get enough of that. Maybe throw in "Crook" as his last name next time, for bonus insipidness points.

They can’t. And how does that affect you? Are you going to stop buying apple products? I won’t.

They clearly knew how to do it. There were demo's of AirPower.

What they did not know how to do was mass produce it with acceptable tolerances, low enough radiation, or heat.

AirPower was never demoed in a working state.

It just doesn't work. ;)

Now, Apple, focus on Mac Pro and make it work. It better be good.

Want to bet on that for say a bag of potato chips? Seriously, I can't believe how many people don't yet get the fact Apple as a hardware company no longer exists. They are nearly 100% focused on on "services" as we saw just this week. That is the present and future for Apple with Tim Cook and they are certainly going to lose their customers all over again. Only this time there will be no Steve Jobs to beg to rescue them from the gutter. Now, obviously I'm not saying a company with Apple's assets are going anywhere like when they were almost broke back then, the same situation will arise in 10 years with no one that good to step in.

Now, it would be my guess we may never see a brand new iMac or maybe even the highly rumored Mac Pro. They no longer care when it comes to stuff like this. It's now about their services and getting software/streaming/cloud focused only to bring in the cash. In fact, if it keeps going like it has, it wouldn't shock me to see the Mac OS become open to the PC so you no longer have to make hackentosh computer. You would simply choose what service/software you want Windows or Mac OS and just put what hardware you want in it. That would give them yet another revenue stream for services/content. All the Mac store stuff and OS running any PC hardware you want.

I knew it was in trouble when it wasn’t shown at the event earlier this week. It was an interesting concept and maybe one day we’ll have the technology to build it but it’s just not there yet.

Oh well, just gotta move on with life and put it behind you.

My life is over. Really though this is not a big deal, but it is kind of embarrassing.

I really wonder what the difficulty was. Knowing Apple this likely would've retailed for near $100 and they still couldn't get it to meet their standards? My no name $18 Qi charger worked flawlessly for nearly 2yrs and has great build quality.
That was probably the problem, they couldn't figure out how to force you to replace it every year.

Here's a idea - have two normal pads next to each other....

That already exists. And it sucks when you have to position your device in the right place for it to work, and then it vibrates because of a phone call and moves just enough to no longer charge.

Airpower would have solved all that, if not for those meddling physics.

So my iPhone is sitting here on a wireless charging mat.

And this was too hard to make ?

Apple you're going downhill. Fix stuff before you have to hire Gil.

Cool story bro.. now put your watch on that same mat.... then switch their locations on the mat... How's that working for you?

it's not a trivial task... glad they bailed before they failed... who knows what they come out with later

Apple’s only fault on this was ever announcing the product. It shows how difficult engineering it was (combined with maybe too lofty expectations) if Apple couldn’t do it.

As for those saying Apple is failing, this is far from them being on a downward spiral. This is them cutting their losses and not releasing a bad product.

NOT every Engineering OR Software Development project works out.

It is what it is.

True. Which is why you don't announce something until it is a product (as opposed to an engineering project), unless you are willing to assume the risk of extreme embarrassment. It worked out for them when they demonstrated iPhone before it worked. This time, not so much.
