I think there is a big reason why apple quit, I'm pretty sure they knew what they wanted
is not that they couldn't accomplish their goal
is that they didn't want to
why?
here is why
it seems like apple doesn't want to spent any money on hardware innovation
and now they just want to milk the cow with the services
so is like apple quit innovation in favor of making money in services

since they can make money in services now they don't care about hardware development
yeah it sound like the Mac Pro

There are the laws of physics that cannot be broken.
No matter how hard you try the concept of placing a device anywhere on the pad and have it optimally charge just doesn't work. if you understand electric and magnetic field theory, you know that.

From what I can see.... you need to remove your iPhone case to charge it?
I'm so upset.

Just purchased the NOMAD Base Station - Apple Watch Edition. Already backordered until April 30th.

I used to be a HUGE Apple fan. I mean, I still use a whole lineup of Apple products daily but one must be delusional not to admit that Apple has lost it for good.

Ditching a MAT!!! Those guys invented the modern computer, the modern phone... and now they can't even gather the right team to cope with making a charging mat! How pathetic is that? All this, of course, AFTER they announced AirPods whose only innovative feature is wireless charging, and after picturing the ma ton the box.

From the iPhone 5's ugly upper and lower bands, to those silly plastic antenna lines on the 6, to the notch on iPhone X... I mean, Samsung has been doing better designs for years. It feels like each time there's a decision to make, noone at Apple is able to demand something better. Saying that those choices are good would be a comment from a brainwashed person. Yes, we've put up with those designs, because the products are good, because the ecosystem is excellent, and because the computers and still amazing to use and look at... But seriously... ANd what's with this square camera bump pictured in the latest leaks. This is plain UGLY. Nobody in their right mind, a tiny bit interested in design, would think this choice makes sense. What the hell is going on at the headquarters?

People around me are starting to switch, and I must say I'm actually starting to look at how bad it would be going out of the ecosystem for the phone... Other options look so much better now. And the OS difference not an actual problem anymore.

Wake up Apple.

Apple today canceled AirPower, the charging mat that it first announced in 2017, because of an inability to meet its high standards for hardware, reports TechCrunch.

AirPower was designed to charge the Apple Watch, iPhone, and AirPods all at once, but after Apple announced the device in 2017, there were persistent rumors of difficulties and no product ever launched. Apple says work on the product has been canceled entirely because the company has been unable to achieve what it was aiming for with the AirPower.

"After much effort, we've concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward," said Dan Riccio, Apple's senior vice president of Hardware Engineering in a statement provided to TechCrunch.

AirPower was introduced in September 2017 alongside the iPhone X, and at the time, Apple said it would launch in 2018. 2018 came and went with no sign of AirPower and no word from Apple on when it would materialize.

There were, however, continual rumors of production, engineering, and manufacturing difficulties. Rumors suggested that there were problems with heat management, inter-device communication, and interference because Apple wanted to design a charging device where you could put an iPhone, Apple Watch, or AirPods anywhere on the mat to charge.

This required layering multiple charging coils, resulting in a device that ran too hot, which turned out to be an engineering issue Apple couldn't solve.

AirPower was supposed to work with the Wireless Charging Case for the AirPods that was released last week, and it was also meant to charge Apple Watch Series 3 and 4 models and all iPhones that support Qi-based wireless charging. With Apple having released the AirPods Charging Case just recently, there was speculation that an AirPower launch was imminent.

The cancelation of AirPower comes as a shock as there have been continual signs that the product was still in the works. AirPower mentions were still included on the newly launched AirPods Charging Case, and Apple recently secured a trademark for the AirPower name. There have also been ongoing rumors of a spring launch, so it appears that Apple worked for months on AirPower solutions before ultimately deciding to nix the project.

Ending work on a project that was already announced and shown off is unprecedented in Apple's recent history.

Why do people always say this? Lol.

You really think that the general public knows the timeline for this product? As soon as they see it in stores they’ll buy.

The only thing Apple really botched was HomePod. They were late AND expensive.

What do you see a problem with?

The iPhone X came out in 2017. At that time there were already many wireless options since other phones supported the tech.

Many people have wireless chargers now. Some would buy the Apple version, others would just keep their current setup.

LMFAO.

Refuses to release products with a modern standard like USB-C over an outdated Lightning connector and now Apple can't even release a charging mat that is comparable to something you can get on Alibaba for $9.99.

Oooof.

This is hilarious as it is sad. I wonder at what stage in the development the product was when they first announced it. An idea in the head of a board member, a half working prototype in someones lab? Even more weird is how 3rd party manufactures have their version on the market since last year...hopefully they won't burn somebody's house down.

I’m fairly sure this is a April’s fools joke by Apple.
They definitely wouldn’t have included the AirPower moniker on the AirPods box, launched wireless charging cases, and designed the Powerbeats Pro to charge wirelessly without AIRPOWER! It’s launching MONDAY

Friday afternoon is always the best time to do an embarrassing press release.

I feel bad for all the engineers who worked so hard on trying to solve what's ultimately unsolvable.
if its unsolvable, how come there are other multi device wireless charging stations already on sale? Some the are aimed at apple products...? Some apologising for their incompetence!!

Why? It still works with other chargers. Or do you only like using Apple chargers?

I was looking to get one wireless charger that would charge all my devices at once.

Are there other products out there that'll charge my Watch, Airpods, and iPhone all together?
