Yay the 16GB iPad 3G is $70 cheaper than before (thanks to the Aussie dollar being above parity), but still about $40 more than the US (including 10% GST).

It's still about $55 cheaper if you want to wait until US supply ease + mail forwarding included (alternatively you can also wait until next year and it'll be $200 cheaper lol)

This is one of three threads I have ever voted negative on. If you can't supply the initial country, how are you going to supply all of these? I am not one to believe the 'hoarding' concept that everyone else has complained of but this even has me suspicious. I know we are not the only country to get it but if you can't take care of the one that your company chooses to release it to first, how do you take care of all the others?
It's posts like this that make people around the world think "Team America: World Police" is a documentary.

Any idea if other stores will have stock at 5pm Friday ???

They are meant to have stock in most other retailers too (Argos, Currys, John Lewis, Carphone Warehouse, Best Buy), can't remember where I was reading about it. They will also be selling at 5pm.

Just called a local..ish Apple store.. chap didn't have a clue about what time they would be available on Friday..
I want one and will queue but not for hours.. anyone else know what time they are likely to be available?

Not proof, but suggestive, that the Apple Hype Machine manipulated US availability to make it appear as the supply was more constrained as it really was.

and when the limited stock they have sells out within hours overseas..then what? Will you have a new conspiracy theory for us?

Money is money, but Apple also cares about who buys their products. I'm sure Apple sees the reseller's as a double edged sword. Yes, Apple probably likes the lines forming around the block even a week after the initial launch. But it annoys folks who can't buy because of basically a line of criminals lined up ahead of them. And yes, those resellers are part of a criminal enterprise because their organization is going to sneak those iPad 2s back to China without paying custom or sales tax. But as criminals go, obviously these aren't the worst. Unless, of course, the Asian gangs doing this reselling stuff are the same ones who ship counterfeit goods to the U.S. (a more serious crime) and/or also have connections with international drug trade (even worse, and while total speculation on my part, it doesn't seem too far fetched that drug dealers would both have the cash capital and the shipping infrastructure to get into the resale business).

I think Apple is hoping that international releases cut into the reseller profits. Once you sell in Hong Kong, for example, the jet set in China can buy there or ask friends to buy and ship from there easily. So this will cut down the markup the resellers can get in China.

It'll be interesting to see if the launches lead to the same mad feeding frenzy of scalpers we saw in some places in the USA.
Personally, I had vowed to avoid upgrading to the iPad 2 as my iPad 1 does everything I need it to. However, as the launch day approaches, I can feel my resolve weakening ;)

The UK, customers will pay £399.00 for the 16 GB model, £479.00 for the 32 GB model, £559.00 for the 64 GB model. Wi-Fi + 3G models will be available for £499.00, £579.00 and £659.00.

Nice !!! ;)

Can't believe that I'm actually excited about forking over $750 for a Black 32GB 3G but I am!!

I'm going to order online and then, depending on the shipping estimate, try the local stores.

Can't wait to try the augmented reality software we have been developing on the new iPad!!

1 AM, is that local time for each individual country?
That's what local time means.

If you live in Iran, 1am where you are, princess. If your boyfriend lives in Madagascar, 1am for he is.

And if you live in a country with multiple time zones like Canada, 1am local time is different for people in Toronto and Vancouver. Makes sense? Or do we need to give more examples?

Cheaper?

No... my iPad 1 is fine, my iPad 1 is fine, my iPad 1 is enough.

**rocks in the corner slowly**

It might work for you...

how do you reckon that's smart? I invested two hours in line, with free water and snacks, had a blast, and got mine. Many people who ordered online are still waiting.

For those first one hundred or so people at the front of the line who get their
hands on the iPad 2, that's really great.

For the rest of you hundreds in line that get turned away without an iPad, I hope you'll take my recommendation to put your online order in before you get in line.

Again, please tell me why Apple would rather you wait to buy an iPad vs you buying iPad?

He probably thinks that if he keeps repeating his (can't prove anything) statements that somebody will believe it's fact!

Doesn't care if the real facts (40 million plus take a while to produce) get in the way:)

You haven't answered the question. Is Apple Canada opening at 1Am eastern time or pacific time? They can't stagger the launch of a single website.

We have 5 time zones here :D I guess 1am means AEDT in Oz (since there's not really any discrepancies on the Apple Online Store).

Funny. In an attempt to show up all Americans as self-entitled and arrogant you suggest that Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK is "everyone else on Earth."

It's called "hyperbole." It gets used quite a bit.
