When the day comes that my biggest concern becomes whether I can manage to buy an iPad 2 or any other piece of tech is when I take a step back and evaluate WTF is going on with my life.

Why?

Surely when that day comes - you should take a moment to congratulate yourself and having sorted your life out rather well?

Now, if you were to wake up in a ditch with your pants round your ankles with a gift wrapped Zune in your pocket with Ballmer's buisness card pinned to it - THAT would be the day to start contemplating lifestyle changes.

so what time zone will be used for the online ordering? i'm in canada and we have like 5 different time zones! :p i'm in EST

Here in Australia it's eastern daylight saving time (Eastern states are most populated and contain 3 of the largest cities). Not sure of the layout for Canada, but maybe it is similar in terms of population Vs Timezones?

I am an American. I'm not whining about anything, but I have a word for all you who are calling the complaining Americans greedy, arrogant, america-centric, etc

STOP ACTING SO SELF RIGHTEOUS!

Yet, you titled your post "Message for all the international people".

People need to remember- it is just an electronic gadget. It doesn't matter if it takes a couple of weeks to arrive. Look forward to it arriving (I know I would), but keep it in perspective.

I'm suprrised that Apple are letting other stores sell it. I expected them to do similar to the iPhone4 release where to buy it out right you had to get it from Apple direct. Its the easiest way to make the most money.

With other retailers selling them I can't see them getting that much stock in. I would expect the UK to end up in the similar situation as that in the US where there is a huge wait for them.

My point was I wouldn't get so hung up about it. Just go and do something else. I suppose it's that feeling of "being part of something new" that people are hooked on.

How come I ordered mine the first day, and still don't have the damn thing. It's not shipping until April 1! But the stores continue to get stock, and now internationally. WTF also what happened to you preorder you get it same, or next day! I seriously am upset about this experience.

I've paid for mine already why do people that haven't as of yet paid for there iPad get to have thiers I'm just outraged at this.

I know I'm complaining it's because I've never felt F'd by Apple before. I'm handicapped, and can't stand inline for hours/days.

So I guess they're holding mine in HK for the HK launch???

I ordered this minutes after launch on March 11... It's shipped late and has been vacationing in HK for damn near a week...

1) Different allocation pool & Apple does not ship sequentially.

2) If you ordered from Apple you haven't paid for yours yet since Apple does not charge until they ship. In fact you are free to cancel your order anytime up to when they print out the ship label. So if you find it "in stock" elsewhere online feel free to pick it up and cancel the Apple order.

3) Outraged? Bit much, no? Annoyed I can see. Frustrated, of course. Outraged? I dunno. I save that for true injustices.

My point was I wouldn't get so hung up about it. Just go and do something else.

But its still not a 'wtf' moment - its a 'hooray, all my problems are minor moment and I am about to get a great new toy' moment.

I suppose it's that feeling of "being part of something new" that people are hooked on.

Some people get hooked on sunsets, some on food, some on falling cherry blossom - people here are generally hooked on exciting new tech.
Its why we are here - it gives us a bit of joy.

Not having a go at ya, but surely you took the effort to post here - so what do you get out of it instead of finding 'something else'?

This is one of three threads I have ever voted negative on. If you can't supply the initial country, how are you going to supply all of these? I am not one to believe the 'hoarding' concept that everyone else has complained of but this even has me suspicious. I know we are not the only country to get it but if you can't take care of the one that your company chooses to release it to first, how do you take care of all the others?

The only positive of this might be a few less scalpers since the device will now be available in some of the overseas places where they are being resold now. Hopefully this will help those who have been to Apple stores over and over again only to be let down because of the same few people buying over and over again to resell.

Get a passport!

With the new iPad 2 we can be taking a picture of a falling Cherry Blossom at sunset while talking about whats for dinner with our partners via Facetime, all on the one ultimate tech device :D

If its anything like the botched launch in the US with the long waits, the other countries will be waiting a LONG LONG TIME.
James

Botched Launch? You have got to be kidding?

I guess they could have sold NONE and just waited two months until they had several million made to fill the initial demand?

I'm sure Moto wishes they had such a "Botched launch" of the Xoom! LOL!

Botched launch? Uh, yeah.

Every iPad on the grey market because Apple couldn't follow its own two unit policy means one more annoyed Apple user not evagelizing the platform and device in the US.

i've come to grips

that i will prob get one just in time to trade it in for the 3. this money is burning a hole in my pocket. (but not big enough to overpay)

but do you think that really matters to a person who waited in line for hours and didn't get one (for the record, I did get one.) Or for the Person that preordered at 1:01am and still hasn't received one? Or for the person that has lined up every single day since then and still hasn't received one?

If I were that person I wouldn't care if Apple had sold 30 million. All I would care about is that I have been struggling extremely hard to get one and I still haven't.

Such is the problem with the western mentality. Sad really.

I must say. I never thought I would say this, but the Apple prices in the UK, in relation to the US (considering all taxes, as is always done), are actually rather good.

Now, I hope this trend continues when they refresh the MacBook and iMac range. :D

You haven't answered the question. Is Apple Canada opening at 1Am eastern time or pacific time? They can't stagger the launch of a single website.
Argh, I meant to type 5pm, in reference to the bricks-and-mortar availability locally.

What Apple Canada does about their online launch, you'll have to find out from Apple Canada. I assume it would be similar to the U.S. web launch at 1am PT/4pm ET.

That's what local time means.

If you live in Iran, 1am where you are, princess. If your boyfriend lives in Madagascar, 1am for he is.

And if you live in a country with multiple time zones like Canada, 1am local time is different for people in Toronto and Vancouver. Makes sense? Or do we need to give more examples?

The Apple store site is one site for all of Canada, sweetheart. How are they going to manage keeping the iPad orders closed for five different time zones on one site, honeybun?

Do you think they're going to let you fill out an order, and only when you get to the address/payment info they're going to block you because it's not 1 am for Vancouver yet, but it is for Toronto, sugarplum?

Yup - which will upset her no end - its her iPad!

So Pavel in Czech Rep is going to get his iPad 2 before I get the one I ordered 11 days ago. How drole!

Slight ethnic bashing aside, this is my point.

I placed my order on launch day here in the US, and it's not expected to ship until April 1st. If Apple can't fill the back orders it has -- or keep up with demand in the ONE market they sell it in now -- how does launching in TWENTY FIVE more markets make sense?

The only positive I can see out of this is that Apple will be able to stop saying:

"The iPad 2 has been so well received that we're now sold out across AMERICA"

and start saying:

"The iPad 2 has been so well received that we're now sold out across THE WORLD"
