and when the limited stock they have sells out within hours overseas..then what? Will you have a new conspiracy theory for us?

Full of Win will ALWAYS have a new theory about Apple that is designed to make them look bad. It's like a broken record.

That's what local time means.

If you live in Iran, 1am where you are, princess. If your boyfriend lives in Madagascar, 1am for he is.

And if you live in a country with multiple time zones like Canada, 1am local time is different for people in Toronto and Vancouver. Makes sense? Or do we need to give more examples?
Oi, I resent the princess remark; I found the original statement ambiguous and I wanted to make sure. Are you this unpleasant offline as well?

Anybody who has ever worked for a corporation doing international business should know that agreements made can't just be cut off.

Sales people went out in these countries and received orders from retailers, based on promised delivery dates. Advertising with deadlines is being booked because of this.
Press releases, TV appearances, public relation product positioning etc.etc.

It is a long chain that once started can only be stopped at great expense.

If Apple would keep ALL ipads in USA they would document that no other country matters to them.
Obviously not smart, as it would have an impact on their other products, laptops, iphones etc. etc.

While Apple forecasted certain numbers to sell, I wouldn't be surprised if they got caught be this overwhelming US demand, given that there are already plenty of ipad 1 users out there.

The sore complainers and "USA rules" whiners should look over the rims of their Starbucks cups.

There is another world out there!

On-line queue

Any guess as to whether the on-line stores all lead to the same queue? Some have suggested ordering online at 1am, but if everything is shipped from China, do our orders get filled only after all of the on-line order placed in the US? I.e. 4-5 weeks and growing?

Kind of makes lining up at the store sound better all the time.

Oh dear, those UK prices make the 64 GB WiFi look good value. But I had 21 GB free on my 32 GB 1st Gen before I sold it.

Has anyone used more than half of their capacity on their 64 GB 1st gens?

I think most Americans understand that there is a limited supply and great demand for the device. What I'm irritated about and suspect that others are too is Apple's inconsistent application of it's policies and the lack of accurate information from it's retail employees.
People who ordered online inexplicably had their orders cancelled. Others saw numerous individuals walk out of Apple retail stores with more units than the two unit limit on launch day and the subsequent mini-launches occurring every morning since. And others being told that the stores haven't receieved any stock since launch day yet they have waited in line several times at the mini-launches.

Message for all the international people

I am an American. I'm not whining about anything, but I have a word for all you who are calling the complaining Americans greedy, arrogant, america-centric, etc

STOP ACTING SO SELF RIGHTEOUS!

Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot. Sure you are happy because you are getting what you want. What if Apple announced today "Due to enormous demand of the iPad 2 a delay of the international launch is necessary. Instead of releasing our stash of iPad 2's internationally, we will instead use them to fulfill all the online orders from 10 days ago, and reward all the people that line up EVERY SINGLE DAY to get an iPad 2. Once we are finally starting to meet demand we will expand to further markets"

Then it would be the americans telling you to shut up and stop whining, because you didn't get what you want. We'd be telling you to wait and that you will get your luxury item eventually. That life doesn't revolve around you and your country. That Apple is right to satisfy some of their huge existing backorder of online orders before they expand into 25 more markets. Apple is right to satisfy their initial market where some stores still have 100 people line up daily. Apple is right to appease it's largest, most important market, it's HOME COUNTRY. Apple has no need to further deplete its supply when it can't even come close to meeting the demand of a single country.

Now before you attack me, I think apple is right to keep on with the international launch. there are many reasons why it is the right thing to do. I just wanted you to step back for a moment and realize why many Americans are pissed. You'd be pissed too if the tables were turned, or if you lived in America and had your online order still sitting at 3-4 weeks. Or if you waited in line every morning for 2 weeks only to have Apple ship millions to other countries instead of diverting some of them to your store.

Just something to think about.

I did some calling round earlier today, and I found out the following:

If you go to a John Lewis (or phone them) at opening time on Friday, you can buy the iPad 2, but they are not stocking them in stores, so they will either get it delivered to you (5 business days) or delivered to the store for collection (on Monday/Tuesday).

I have spoken to PC world 3 times, and the 3 different people I spoke with said it would be available when the store opens. Now they seemed surprised by the question, and it's possible that they don't know what they are talking about (shock horror). I will phone them back tomorrow and see what they say after this press release.

My biggest fail though, is that last week I lost my credit card and I'm waiting for a new one to be delivered. If it doesn't arrive by Friday, I am completely boned!

Also, about the hole American lack of supply. These boards make out like no-one could get an iPad 2 at all last Friday, but I'm pretty sure that they sold A MILLION of the things...

but do you think that really matters to a person who waited in line for hours and didn't get one (for the record, I did get one.) Or for the Person that preordered at 1:01am and still hasn't received one? Or for the person that has lined up every single day since then and still hasn't received one?

If I were that person I wouldn't care if Apple had sold 30 million. All I would care about is that I have been struggling extremely hard to get one and I still haven't.

The same 1AM/5PM thing again? I see Apple didn't learn a thing from the US launch.

Exactly. LOL!!!

When the day comes that my biggest concern becomes whether I can manage to buy an iPad 2 or any other piece of tech is when I take a step back and evaluate WTF is going on with my life.

If its anything like the botched launch in the US with the long waits, the other countries will be waiting a LONG LONG TIME.
James

Botched Launch? You have got to be kidding?

I guess they could have sold NONE and just waited two months until they had several million made to fill the initial demand?

I'm sure Moto wishes they had such a "Botched launch" of the Xoom! LOL!

What happened in the US web launch?

----

And I wonder how many people will order online at 1pm then queue up at 3?
Apart from me - obviously

Prices are great in Australia, but 5pm launch time? What idiot came up with that idea? Sigh, sitting outside in the sun in Sydney for 8 hours - I better not forget my sunscreen and hat!
