Well, not exactly. Sidecar turns an iPad into a second display for the Mac. UC allows control of discrete devices, each doing their own thing. These are different concepts altogether. This is not Universal Control feature. It's called Sidecar and it works with the iPad.
Universal Control will essentially bring the Sidecar feature to all iPads and Macs, with added bonuses.
you mean Vaporware. yes.Does anyone else feel like this is a gimmick?
Are you saying if only they stuck with Intel, this would never have happened? ?And they want everyone to move to Apple silicon when they can't get the features in their new os out in a timely fashion.
No, and it provides something that would otherwise be kindof impossible to integrate into (closed) iOS...Does anyone else feel like this is a gimmick?
It also shows that the modern company couldn’t care less about consumer expectations. They push out stuff how they want, when they want and the user can either take it or leave it. User feedback is seldom if ever listened to and mistakes are never admitted. It’s like a store posting a sign saying that they’re not responsible for price inaccuracies (which they are directly in control of and legally responsible for). It used to be where if you paid a premium then you’d get a tailored experience but even that is impossible to find and usually reserved for large corporate contracts nowadays. Post-covid life is also to blame…contactless service allows the company to put in minimal effort, drag their feet and delay things indefinitely. Again, like I said in my last post, excuses used and abused because nobody would dare want to put someone in covid danger, or something. The new Apple. No issue except incompetence. The original Apple was loath to introduce new things unless they were ready. The new Apple is so desperate for innovation and so lacking in innovation they are introducing the ideas first then trying to deliver.
When you don't have someone at the help who understands technology, this is what you get.
They over deliver on bugs. It's been a trend, over promise and under deliver...
Yeah, but why?The biggest feature I am looking forward to.
Being able to use two computers at my desk (one Intel and one M1) and "mostly" being able to pretend that they are a single computer with multiple monitors.
Yeah, but why?
Nope, Universal Control is not Sidecar. Sidecar turns iPad into an external monitor; Universal Control lets a Mac control an iPad when it's running an iPadOS app. And Sidecar is a hack that streams video from a Mac to an iPad, so doing it wirelessly, there can be lag between input from the Mac and the result on the iPad screen.Exactly! And this perfectly explains why Universal Control was not needed. If a new feature is closely similar to a an existing feature.. that new feature isn’t necessary.
Hate to disillusion you, but it only works between Mac & iPad or Mac & Mac, not Mac & iPhone, unless they change it now.Darn, Universal Control was the thing that I looked forward to the most in Monterey. I'm still using Teleport, but it's finicky and doesn't cover iOS devices.

I don’t know what I would do with Universal Control. Like Sidecar, I would likely try it out for two weeks and decide using an iPad side-by-side with the Mac just isn’t useful.Does anyone else feel like this is a gimmick?
This is just an excuse that was released before it was ready. The new Apple, all talk, all glitter, no guts.
THIS!Monterey is the proof that the pressure to deliver annual major software upgrades is maybe too much. I would not mind a software schedule more about 18-24 months for major upgrades, giving time to implement new features and correct bugs
