Yeah, Nickelback has won a ton of awards too. I'd still call them a **** band. Either way, I'm sorry that I appear to have upset you.
[doublepost=1525304258][/doublepost]I'm sure there will be all sorts of genres for a variety of tastes and preferences. I just don't really believe that there's some mass, untapped market out there of people that want to stream video content but wouldn't/aren't already doing so via Netflix, Hulu, HBO, or one of the several other services available. Apple would have to offer content that was ridiculously good at an attractive price to get people to ditch one of those other services or add Apple's in addition to those other services.

When I think of Apple products (services and content included), I think of the wide range of people I know. Family, friends, co-workers, etc. They're all across the spectrum from "hates Apple" to "loves Apple and gets all the products." At no point on that spectrum do I imagine some sort of Apple version of HBO being all that popular with the people I know.

EDIT: Maybe, MAYBE I could see this being popular if they did something like Amazon does with Prime and bundle it in with Apple Music as like, a $5 addition.

Yeah, I'm thinking they'll probably hoping to get at least one breakout hit (ala Handmaid's Tale) to gain traction. I think if there's a series that people really want to see or gets some pop culture momentum behind it (like Strangers Things or GOT), that even people who don't necessarily like Apple will still check it out.

The issue is going to be how to keep people long term. For the most part, Netflix & Hulu have a built in audience (although there are still those who will only sign up to watch the new season of something, then cancel when they're finished.

Pricing is going to be key. I say bundling with Apple Music is smart. More people are more likely to sign up, even out of curiosity.

This show must be really worth it over the mac mini, mac pro, router, monitors, macos, software, etc.
After all, its all about services (ie subscriptions) according to Tim Cook.

Talking bout the Apple TV can we have a browser based Apple TV App Store pls?

Yea. And also it would of made a good game box. Unfortunately, the AppleTV is one of many products that Tim Cook hasn't devoted much resources to. I think Tim now thinks the AppleTV is now just a box to view subscription services on the TV.

Oh, I'm sorry. She's only been nominated for an Oscar (3) times in 2012 (Won), 2017 and 2018. She must be doing something right to get back to back Oscar nominations. But, hey, to each its own.
Oscar don't mean nothin anymore... just dribble stuff

I think apple’s foray into video will make me puke.

I imagine it all as super safe super pc very beautifully shot saccharine tv.

I hope I am wrong.

I agree with Apple spending cash on premium TV content but this isn't it and you are absolutely spot on.

Oscar can be bought, Ask Catherine Zeta Jones.

Exactly what the MacRumors readerbase has been clamoring for!

"Are you sleeping" The tragic story of how Tim Cook fell asleep at the Mac wheel and drove it into a ditch.

I guess it’s too early to judge, but none of these shows sound interesting, nor have any of their music exclusives. Everything is geared to tweens, and their TV lineup looks to be competing with Lifetime.

I like Apple Music, but purely for the streaming.

Apple should commission a historical drama, useful background for product placement of most of its current products

/end sarcasm

I don't know of anybody who's asking for this.

Octavia Spencer isn't a great actress. Unfunny and just loud.

Netflix is running so far ahead in the TV series game - makes Apple's response laughable.

Who would watch such a thing? Looks like complete PC drivel. C'mon Apple...you can do better than this. What about a SciFi series or something geared to a wider audience?

So I’m guessing this is why we can’t have nice routers anymore.

Not interested...

All of this, simply on the first page. Lmao. This place truly is toxic.

Drove it to record quarters almost every quarter.
[doublepost=1525348117][/doublepost]I haven't seen a single show that looks even slightly interesting.

Way more concerned about the hardware and software that need updating and fixing. Not to mention new products.

If you go through my post history, you will find I’m mostly positive in Apple and their products.

I’ve been buying Apple products for 17 years. First purchase was a TiPBG4, airport card and Airport UFO base station. Have been using Apple WiFi products ever since and continue to do so today. With almost every Apple device shedding its Ethernet port, supplying a WiFi solution should be a continuing priority. Apple is giving up an important piece of their ecosystem puzzle by leaving “effortless WiFi management” to anyone else.

FYI

Jimi Hendrix helped open the doors for black artists like Octavia, when he shot like a meteor through our Earth space in the late 1960s. He was Afro-American and 'crossed over' to the white camp, facing opposition from both sides as his black brethren criticised him for playing white music. Jimi really worked hard to reach the black audience but his management were not favourable and really put the block on him in his later days, late 69 and 70, when he tried to integrate his afro-american friends in his group. His management kicked them out and put white guys back in. Ultimately the industry killed him after he suffered a lot of stress for simply trying to spread a little love around.

Yes, I know this is off-topic but I still think it is relevant in a non-racist way. Thanks for your understanding.

"Are YOU sleeping?": the question I ask all the seemingly illiterate journalists who are quoting a show title which is CLEARLY asking a question, but ALL of whom seem to OMIT IT.

Go back to school.

Only on Macrumors would a post like this get so many likes.

Macrumors is a honey pot for Apple haters. The good thing is that they tend to land here and it keeps them off of other sites. It is also a non-violent outlet for their anger and frustration at the world.

Well, the reality behind the death of Apple wi-fi products has little to do with the new video division.Sales simply fell off a cliff.

Yes there was a time, say 1998 to 2013, when people needed to buy their own access points so they could have WiFi. But for at least 5 years, whoever supplies your internet access supplies a router with WiFi capabilities built in. A few users need more, but not many.

There’s something to be said for Apple continuing to supply great products regardless of demand or profitability. But when demand drops from millions of units to thousands, it gets hard to make the case that the internal resources required to maintain a dying product line are being well utilized.

While that may be so, how much better could Apple be, If say, it just upgraded its frigging computers!
It takes a long time to fiqure out what can be taken away to save money and at the same time charge more without people complaining too much.

Quite a conundrum. Demand goes down because it’s reliable and you make less profit. Apple did it right by passively sabotaging their devices either via software or hardware every few years to push an upgrade. I would have kept my iPhone 6s had iOS11 ran ok. I can’t wait till the next upgrade. Maybe their wireless charging will be as fast as Samsung’s fast charge

Unbelievable to think that Apple should be immune to anyone's individual criticism.

No one said that. At all. Quite the opposite, in fact. Being such a large company, I think they need to be held to a higher standard. But the criticisms also need to be fair.

When the entire place is about who can out-sarcasm each other and who can belittle Apple the most over every move they make (ESPECIALLY when they're the first ones to comment, so clearly they're clicking as soon as they can), it gets tiring and predictable. I can basically write the first page of comments on every MR article.

Making the most revenue and profit does not necessarily mean it is a good thing for the consumer.

I think Apple had a much better quality product, especially software, back when they (relatively) did not make any money.
But what you think doesn't mean it's reality either.

The measure is consumers voting with their wallets. People in general clearly love the products, period.

Objectively, you can't pump out junk and have the success on the scale of Apple. It's unprecedented.

In my opinion, the iPhone X is a lot better than the original iPhone, for example. Not sure how you can say they've gotten worse at making iPhones (software included).
[doublepost=1526157102][/doublepost]
According to you, Richest = Best

Just announced.. "Jeff Bezos is the best person in the world."
Terrible analogy. Apple is a consumer product company. Every time a consumer buys a product from Apple, they are voting with their wallet.

Apple gets 220M votes/year on iPhone alone. People do NOT buy crap on that big of a scale without a reason. People love iPhone, period. Numbers show it, satisfaction shows it, loyalty shows it, services people buy after the fact show it, etc., etc.
[doublepost=1526157134][/doublepost]
The perspective of the consumer VS that of the shareholder.
Yes, but I am both. The products are great.
