Here we go again. There's going to be people saying that retail employees should have the busiest retail week of the year off work. There's going to be Europeans making a fuss about how much better they are for only having to work 11 months of the year. There's going to be complainers saying Apple doesn't deserve any breaks at all.
Look. If you're in retail, that's your own fault. Get an education and get a job that not everyone can do, and then you can have a better holiday season. Europeans: The US's GDP per capita is almost 160% that of the EU's, so maybe all those vacation days are the problem. And complainers, Apple management is going to use these extra vacation days that would surely be wasted anyway by distracted workers to spur on greater effort and longer hours between now and then, so Apple is still going to be hard at work, and probably accomplish even more than if they didn't take a little extra vacation time.
We have this topic every year and everyone makes the same tired arguments about why this is somehow a bad thing. Apple just had a record sale of iPhones, probably going to have a record sale of iPads next month, giving workers a break to relax and rest the month after that isn't a bad idea. A shorter, hectic holiday would only cause Apple employees stress and exhaustion that would hurt morale and efficiency for the rest of the year. Tim Cook knows what he's doing.
