Oh please, you're entire post is ridiculous. Corporate office employees are the sales support. When they are off enjoying their holiday the retail stores have limited support. And for the record without sales the corporate lazies wouldn't have a paycheck. Obviously you've never worked in a retail sales environment. Don't even attempt to convince me you have, I can tell you haven't.
It would be silly for Retail to close for a week...during shopping season for the holidays. It's an industry given to open early, close late, stay open during vacation weeks. That's how the Retail Sales Industry works.
How much food can your family eat?

Can someone please provide a Chinese translation for the words "paid holiday"? I'd even settle for an American one, these days.
Why should workers in a country get holiday pay for holidays that they don't celebrate in another country? If I work for a Toyota assembly plant in Texas, I don't expect Paid vacation for Japanese holidays.
P. S. If you think the conditions are so abhorrent and the workers are so maltreated, don't support Apple by purchasing their products.
What Apple should do is buck the trend and stay closed on Black Friday (while giving all retail employees that day as paid vacation). That day winds up as a really grim shopping experience both for customers and employees. It's time to end that phony tradition.
Maybe Dell or Microsoft can negotiate with those manufacturers.

ha i love how that one guy said if you don't wanna work retail get educated. whats funny is if you ask almost any retail apple employee if they have a degree most likely they will say yes. i also love the fact retail employees don't even get a day off until black out schedule is over..lol in the middle of january. but the corporate fat catz get a paid week off. to the guy who said that.. i used to love when people would ask if i loved this job LOL bunch of bull ****. apple is simply taking your money and ******** on you. you buy a phone with in 9 month s its out dated.. lol or a ipad thats a 500+ dollars is outdated you need a new one LOL.
....they are giving all employees a week off as well, so that they can repair the suicide nets.

If you read the story it clearly states that Apple is extending the extra paid holiday to all of their employees around the world. We don't celebrate thanksgiving in the UK but UK employees will still get the extra days holiday at a later time.
I'm saddened by the general lack of respect and compassion for other people on this thread. We wouldn't have any Apple products to fawn over without the thousands of low paid Chinese workers who build them. Apple certainly wouldn't make so much profit and consequently your shares wouldn't be worth so much. So yes I do think we owe them and we should let them share in the spoils of their labour.

Foxconn workers are not Apple employees. I'm not aware of companies where contractors get the same fringe benefits as employees.
Again if the way Foxconn workers are treated bothers you so then stop buying products from companies that contract with them. That's not ignoring anything and would probably be more useful than complaining on an Apple rumor site.
