Who do you think their supplier is and when do you think it'll be ready? Considering they plan to go live with the service by the end of the month and delivering the 'mobile device' in 1-2 weeks???

EDIT: Just read some more and the DRM is stated to be Windows based and the mobile device is a smart phone.

If you have a look at the screenshots for the application, it looks SERIOUSLY Apple based- the programmes have star ratings just like iTunes, the arrows look just like the ones that are used in iTunes, the search icon is the same as the spotlight symbol...

This has got to be what is being announced!

I thought it looked very Apple like in places too but it quite clear from the FAQ's rtc on the site that it's an application supplied by kontiki and windows based. :(

New board member?

http://www.legalzoom.com/articles/article_content/article11325.html

"For anyone who has ever searched for “Hey Jude” or any other Beatles hit in the iTunes catalog, don’t expect to find it. That’s because Apple Corps is wary about the effect of technology on royalties. But who knows? Maybe the rights to those songs will become available as part of the settlement, particularly if Sir Paul sits on Apple’s board."

Afterall..The "One More Thing" comes out one day after Apples financial results webcast.
Just think. An "Apple" branded iPod :D

More:
"Apple Computer will face Apple Corporation, the Beatles' recording company, in court in just under a year's time.

According to the Mac maker's latest 10-Q filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the two Apples will battle it out over which of them has the right to use the word 'apple' in relation to the music business: Apple Corp. because it's been doing so since the 1960s, or Apple Comp. because it's been doing so via iTunes since 2002.
And the date of the UK court hearing: 27 March 2006.

Apple and Apple have been here before, with Corp. suing Comp. a number of times over the last 20 years as it has perceived the Mac maker trading on its trademark toes. Those cases ended with Comp. settling out of court, paying Corp. huge sums, and agreeing not to enter the music market again. But with the iTunes Music Store, Apple Comp. has gone too far, Corp. alleges, and is suing for damages."

Kind of odd for Apple Computer to be putting so much into iTunes a few months before they go to court. Each time settling out of court before the trial.

Cool, when is TOMOROW exactly? Can't say I've heard of it before. Does it have something to do with cats? :p

Tomorow is today October 7 - I'd be happy with new PowerBooks as a spankin' birthday present - I'll even buy it! They just have to RELEASE it!

PS - Thanks, Wdlove!

Regarding the firmware idea, let me just speculate for a second...

I have read that the current iPods have a PortalPlayer controller that actually does video. Combine that with the color screen, and output to TV capability. So:

1. Is this indeed true for the color iPods? For all versions of the color iPods?
2. Could a color iPod be firmware upgraded to play video, if indeed the controller chip already has a video decoder?

If it's at least technically possible, why wouldn't Apple do it (but also release new 5G iPod as well)? Steve would talk about how current video players don't sell well, and there's no content, and that it's a chicken-egg scenario too- no one buys if there's no content, no one will make the content if there's not enough viewers...

The he can introduce the 5G with bigger screen. Then do a big presentation on all the content that is lined up. And then also say "Apple has already sold 3 million (whatever the # is) portable video players," and introduce the firmware upgrade..."We have the user base, and we have the content library. We win, game over. Microsoft go home."

;)

That would be absolutely brilliant. Fits very well with the video implication of the curtain, and the "One more thing..." since 4G iPods have been rumored to have a hidden function since they were introduced last year.
:D

Engadget says that Apple might introduce a new PINK iPod nano. Could this be part of the "one more thing" event? It would make sense, as many people were attracted to the iPod minis partly because of their colors.

BUT MADONNA?!?!?!?!

llama :(

y'know what would be really good? a reintroduction of the clamshell ibooks in all the colors, for $200 more, and incude a 14 inch version. Have this alongside the white square ibooks, and you have at least one customer! :D well, i can always dream...

Using the analogy folks here have been using about the jeans with 1000 songs in your pocket theme..
Remember when the Nano came out? Apple's store had a graphic of the jeans? The same graphic they used in the invite for the Nano ?

If all they're gonna do is PB/PM bumps how is the curtain going to fit in with a PB as a graphic on Apple's store ?

maybe steve is gonna announce an iPod video with either an adonized aluminum and white polycarbonate plastic enclosure so it goes with both pro and consumer macs! Brilliant! where do i get my ideas? who knows?

personally, this is what i think:

speed updates across pro lines

powerbooks and G5s go dual core, along these lines:

12" PB: bumped to single 1.67ghz G4 chip
15" & 17" PB: dual core 1.7ghz

G5: price drops on pro-lines to ensure continued sales until intel switch, Dual-processor 2.3ghz, Dual-Core 2.67 and 3.0ghz

Mini speed bump made official, eMac updated to 1.5ghz, iMac speed updates possible, x-serves go dual dual-core, offering the most G5 powerful G5 system ever.

iPod updates: 40gb and 80gb, replacing 20gb. 40gb is thinner, like existing 20gb. Also, for first time will be available in black, like nano, due to the overwhelming response to the black nanos.

one more thing: Apple tablet computer. same specs as mac mini with built-in touchscreen LCD display. base station serves as airport base and AV center, allowing tablet to stream video to base station and display it on tv. features an dashboard-inspired overlay keyboard for typing without a keyboard plugged in. 12" LCD. $999.

apple would not go to all this trouble to announce speed bumps or updated iPods. This is something huge, and i think it's the tablet mac.

I could be easily sold on the BBC iMP project getting announced. The curtain fits in, the GUI looks like it's Apple or at least stolen from Apple, it's software and easily distributed...

If not, my original thought of wearble technology still stands. I'm telling ya, the curtain is a skirt with speakers. You can pick-up an iTunes signal when in range of an AirPort Express and dance your night away. Oh, and the batteries will be charged as you move. The more you move the greater the charge. ;)

i think they are going ot announce an apple robot like the one honda makes. the one that plays the trumpet and dances.

Just out of interest, how many (approx) people who work for apple actually know what's going to be relased on wed? Do the retail staff get told?

Unless every one of the retail staff I have met over the years is a fantastic actor then they do not know. I've broken the news of new products to them on several occassions—oh man, I need to get a life.

Same here... with the nano.

My local store were eagerly awaiting the news along with the rest of us that time but they had customers to deal with so when I called to ask when they'd be in stock, it was news to them.

I was told that they sometimes get shipments of stuff that they can't open until a certain date but generally stock arrives (a day or two) after the announcement.

How true the secret box theory is I don't know but that's what I was told!
