Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but just heard on BBC Radio that Apple are to annouced the new video iPod at BBC tv centre in UK on 12th October. Don't think they have ever used tv centre as a venue before so maybe there is a tv show download thing happening as well. The radio report said there would be video bundles available to download from iTMS.

You heard this on BBC radio ? which station was it ?
Sounds interesting, i could see the BBC providing some iPodVideo content. BUT the BBC is very restricted in the content that it can publish for worldwide use, it is not a commercial broadcaster. I suppose news is the obvious thing. I think if they were to publish popular tv shows for the iPod worldwide it would have to be under some kind of subscription / pay per use kind of thing. I suspect it would come out of BBC Worldwide.

But maybe, they do have a HUGE catalogue of content. I can't really imagine a launch at TV centre though ! It's such a sixties monstrosity of a building. Maybe at white city or the new media centre, dunno. I worked for the BBC for 5 years, just cant see it happening.

I live in Spain now so would like to know what you heard on the radio, was out most of the day otherwise i normally have Radio5 on in the background.

Slightly off topic .. but it somehow reminded me .... Rest in peace Ronnie Barker. They never did make enough episodes of Porridge. ( I suspect only Brits will know what im talking about )

It's been on BBC 6 Music, on their music news bullentin after the main news, heard it three times now and they definitely say its at TV Centre on the 12th. I keep checking the music news part of the 6music website but nothing about it their yet. I know the BBC have been experimenting with podcastings so you never know they might have some of their TV programmes available soon too but yes there is the rights issue you mentioned.
With you on Ronnie Barker, great loss.

With the Cube they where on CNN, Steve was with Larry King, giving a demo how to get the machine out of the plastic enclosure. That would be a more obivous tv station then the BBC and CNN also covers all of the world.

An anonymous source tipped us to an Apple Invitation-Only event to be held at 10:00 a.m. October 12 at the California Theater in San Jose. The invitation itself features red curtains in the background with simple white type in the middle stating "One more thing..."

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has often used the phrase "one more thing" at the end of Keynote addresses at large conferences to bring out new products.

So what does that mean? Are they selling curtains now? wtf?

As well as the video streaming H264 iFlicks store eventuality, I can see Apple making a fully fledged iTunes available as part of said set top box. Why should your digital music collection focal point be the PC in the bedroom, when all your CDs and speaker system are in the living room?

But iTunes 5 does organize videos. It uses quicktime, but you can drag and drop any quicktime video onto iTunes and turn iTunes into your video library.
iTunes is still much too audio-oriented to be as useful a video library as it is a music library. It only has basic, minimal knowledge about video files/formats and lacks capabilities for easily organizing/managing them.

I always thought this, as well as the actual name 'iTunes' itself. Sure, it has tremendous brand recognition, but its iTUNES... it doesnt suit itself well to a movie organiser or movie store. I can see an overall iMedia application that includes iTunes as well as its movie equivalent, and you can select between each with simple tabs or links that are prominent on the main page, or even a link in the "source" side panel.

well, it looks like the bbc screwed up..

rumour has it that they announced the video ipod would be coming next wednesday - along with 'video bundles' from the itunes music stores.

i don't know what the arrangements are exactly but i think it was macworld uk that mentioned it would be a low-key invitation only event in london as well as in San Jose. looks like that event will happen at the bbc television centre (how appropriate - although i prefer old billingsgate market personally).

looks like the imovie video store is finally here. so long as they don't start shilling out apple ads like we do, i'm happy :)

OK, my first thoughts were iPod video and ITVS Video Store too, but now with
the latest Think Secret rumour denying it? Hmm, think I got it...

The riddle reads: “One more thing...”

What’s when you think about todays PM G5? Yes, they come with single core
processors. So let’s add one more thing..., ahh I mean core.

Voilà, there you have it: Dual Core G5!

And don’t forget who told you first.

The New Product will be...

iClicker

The new Apple Universal Remote, that works with your TV and your iPod.

That's definitely it.

Uni Remotes are a dime a dozen even if it does control iTunes. Maybe such a thing AND something else but an "event" for just a remote control? Doubt it.

G5 iPod?
