Why do you use Paypal anyway?

Why not just use your debit/credit card directly? They have consumer protection built-in already.

Because not everyone, especially in Europe, has a credit card. They are gaining popularity here but for the most part people tend to stay away from credit cards.

That's why it's so strange Apple didn't include Europe with this.

Uk??

I don't think PayPal is an option in the UK? It certainly isn't on my iTunes Account which is my Apple ID so that means it's not available on iBooks or the Mac App store either...

I've just looked at the online store and I can't use PP there either - so your story is pretty inaccurate!

I wish Apple would add PayPal to the UK iTunes store(s) - I can't see a reason that they don't?

Also would be good to be able to have more than one payment option (like most other providers do) so that when my CC is maxed out I can still buy stuff! But if Apple don't want to take my money then... someone else sure will! ;)

People still use PayPal? Wow.

[One of my friend's accounts was hacked, and suddenly she was getting charged for industrial equipment all over Eastern Europe (she didn't have to pay, but she did have to go through considerable inconvenience (think credit rating) related to identity theft). I stay well clear of Pay Pal...]

I must have good luck. Fourteen years and no issues. I likely only use it because of ebay.

they won't allow PayPal to be apart of Apple Pay but will allow/use them in Apple Store.
People keep saying this, but that ignores the fact that PP can't be used at most stores. AP is currently just an easy, secure way to use a payment method that the store already accepts. If they don't accept PP, it can't be used through AP, anyway.

Yes but everyone in Europe does have a bank/debit card, and 99% of those have Visa or MasterCard logos on them. Same difference...

Paypal certainly is an option on the UK store, I've just used it and the 0% for 12 months option to buy a refurb MacBook pro! Big advantage of 0% paypal credit is it can be used on refurb items, whereas 0% apple credit can't.

correcting incorrect apple stories is almost as futile as trying to destroying every single copy of the "Star Wars Holiday Special"

paypal aka bill me later aka Paypal credit, its all the same thing and you could always use it as an option to buy apple hardware. apple hid this in the "financing" tab.

all apple did was to take this payment option and move it from "financing" to the other tabs to make it more prominent, and give it more options. but this option was always available to you

the restriction with Paypal and the apple store is that they required you to have all apple hardware shipped to you, you couldn't use this option as far as i know to place orders for in store pickup the purchase required me to have the mac mini shipped

at least with special financing - i had to have the mac mini shipped

the major change is now you can buy something at www.apple.com and use paypal and pick it up at the apple store. with the old way you went to apple.com and used paypal and had to have the item shipped

i went to the apple store back in October 28th and i purchased my third mac mini for Paypal credit no interest no payments for 6 months by going to www.apple.com and going to "financing" and clicking on paypal

easy there... i think the point now is you can pay with your paypal account that's tied to your bank account, credit card, debit card, etc. not just as financing.

Hmmm - Sorry, but I don't see an option to link my PP account with my Apple ID on the account pages?

Is it only PP Credit that is available in the UK or can you choose PP at the check-out instead of having to use the Card they have on file?

Thanks

Yay! I always use PayPal where I can. Just something about it feeling like a safer way to pay. Although I'm certain Apple's online payment system is safe, PayPal always has added security benefits. I've also had issues in the past with Apple holding money on my bank account and charging twice for items. Always nice to be able to pay without using a bank card directly.

Second hand anecdotes are a great way to come to conclusions about such matters.

I like Paypal because it takes the money directly from my bank account. IOW it acts like a digital debit card. Money spent via a credit card is not as quickly missed (for me, anyway) as money coming from my bank account - which is why I prefer to use my credit card as little as possible.

Now then - can anyone tell me if the Canadian iTunes store has Paypal yet?

I saw my fiend having to go through all of the fuss following the PayPal hack. It affected everything, from her credit rating, to bank loans, to having to phone her credit card company every single time she used her credit card. So, I have my doubts about PayPal's security (It was a direct hack of a complicated password, not a phishing attack, and PayPal could not explian how it happened. No other passwords were compromised, which suggested that it was a PayPal problem. No doubt PayPal have tightened their security each year since then, and credit cards can get hacked too. Still, PayPal does not fill me with confidence.)

Hopefully this means they worked out a deal, apple offers Paypal as payment, Paypal Debit works with ApplePay. Fingers crossed.

As someone who gets paid for overseas work via Paypal on a weekly basis this is a huge benefit!

No the reason Apple / Apple Pay does not except PayPal (and its cards) is because PayPal signed a deal with Samsung while in negations with Apple. Apple got pissy and pulled out of there deal. Blocking them from on Apple Pay and in any App a dev builds. So its weird how its okay on the Apple Store but not in other areas. That's why people keep mentioning it.

I made no comment on Apple's reasons. I pointed out that it wouldn't matter, anyway.

Look up "anyway" in a dictionary if that helps.
