Paypal is an extra middleman (charging an additional fee) that in this day and age should NOT NEED TO EXIST.

Your banks and the stores/services you need to pay are ALL that should be needed.

Paypal is yet another needless third-party confusing things between the two. If it wasn't for Ebay, they wouldn't (nor shouldn't) exist.

In now 2014, we are able to send domestic payments FREE in the UK, in other EU countries they can send inter-border Euro payments FREE too. It's just the other payments that force a service like Paypal to exist, as banks refuse to realise that international transactions should be easier and cheaper, hence PP currently fill that gap.

Dunno about the US, but I suspect it's a similar problem.

Why do you use Paypal anyway?

Why not just use your debit/credit card directly? They have consumer protection built-in already.

I still don't understand how Apple Pay is a "PayPal competitor." Apple Pay is a quick, convenient, and very secure way to pay at certain points of sale at a physical location. PayPal allows me to pay people for stuff online. As of yet aren't these two fairly different services?

Amft!!

I take this as a strategic move avoiding an anti-trust action.

So, Apple can partner with Paypal payments for the Apple's Online Store, but they refuse to do this with Apple Pay ??

I like the selectivity of Apple, I really do.

Its still a transaction....at the end of the day.

However, Apple has gone it's own way for Apple Pay... the flip-side, is why introduce Paypal on the Apple Store ?

I really thought this was just *one thing*, but now you have a multitude of payments even from the same company... they don't offer it with this app, but they do on the Apple Store....

You gotta find where exactly accept it.... This is just one company, not multiple ones.

You'd think it would be easy as pie. These payment systems across the board..

Ive used paypal over the phone with the apple store twice in the past two years though, so am I missing somewhere here?
I'm wondering that myself. I used PayPal to pay for my rMBP that I ordered from the online Apple Store - in 2012.

Here in Scandinavia PayPal isn't even an option on iTunes Store. Sucks.

But why would you want to use PayPal? I use it on eBay because I don't want to give some random seller my credit card details, and many won't be equipped to use them anyway. On the Apple Store, I don't see a reason why I should give my credit card info to PayPal and not to Apple, and I know that PayPal is just an intermediary who will try to skim off some of my money.

Apple will want you to be able to use Apple Pay for this as well at some point in the future. So websites will have a "PayPal" button and an "Apple Pay" button.

Meh, I don't use paypal except if I was on ebay or swappa. The rest of the time, I'd rather use a credit card.

I've used PayPal several times at Apple Store online (Apple Store Germany and Apple Store UK) - going back about three years. I guess the author should add the words "in the USA" to the title.

I'm looking around seeing if I can ebay $1599 out of all the stuff I don't use in my apartment,

Seriously. Now the hordes of people who have been holding out on buying Apple products because they don't have a credit card but do have Paypal can finally join in. Tomorrow all the analysts will be upgrading their earnings estimates to reflect the HUGE market opening this reflects.

I am not a big PayPal fan or user, but this is exactly what I was thinking. love the wit!
