I really have to ask how many people read full threads and/or full stories before posting just blatant ignorance or - dare I say - stupidity.

This isn't about what is fair or not. It is what was ordered by the court.
This isn't Samsung doing anything.
This is because Apple (now twice) defied/undermined the UK courts.
No - the notice Apple posted was not to the letter of what the court ordered.
No - the notice Apple posted wasn't in the spirit of what the court ordered.

Apple tried to get away with something they KNEW wasn't "cool" (to use a favorite word in this thread). They did it very much on purpose. They knew it would take days to get a slap on the wrist for doing so. They know it won't take but 10 minutes to change their site.

They are playing a game. And what could be a dangerous one because the UK courts don't take kindly to being mocked. And they could easily impose fines or worse for contempt.

And no - it is completely unrealistic for Apple to withdraw from the UK. To assert that as some grade school tactic is just ridiculous and shows how little one knows about business and economics.

I think that you, my friend, are taking this entire thread way too seriously.

Why can't it be about what's fair or not? It's relevant to the subject.

More importantly, why should we defer to your (and other posters that regularly hurl veiled insults towards others) "absolute wisdom"?

It's fun to talk about this. It's fun to read others' opinions, regardless of how ridiculous we may find them as individuals.

Everything and anything here is subject to debate, and that's what we are doing. Entertaining ourselves. Can't we leave the anger out of it?

What's with all the ad hominem's guys ? Can't address the arguments so you attack the posters ?

At a lost for arguments here ? Just don't post then.

So in the UK there is no right to say "The judge was wrong"? When interviewed about a judgement, the losing side is required to say "Oh, yes, we were completely wrong, and the fact that we'll be appealing the decision should in no way be meant to say that we have any disagreement with the infallible judge exercising his divine wisdom"?

Actually, the quotes you listed are more general, there can be blatant copying without technically infringing. If Samsung feels they've been libeled, let them sue for libel.

Yes, you can say I disagree with the judge and I think his judgment is wrong.
The was clarified in the post ruling discussion, in court, with the judge, Samsung and Apple ... Apple is allow to state it's opinion (according to the BBC)

But the to put it in the next paragraph with the statement to clarify that Samsung did not infringe, was intentionally trying to add confusion and violated the spirit of the ruling itself.

I'm intending on buying a BTO iMac 27", that's the main reason I joined this community.

10% is a small price hike on items such as the iPod but when it comes to the MacBook Pro/iMac/iPad it starts to become even more significantly overpriced compared to what it costs in the US.
Just wait till after Dec 14 or after the holiday season, whenever they readjust the price (hypothetically speaking of course).

Or you can get a AIO from Dell, ASUS, Lenovo, HP etc. But you won't, because you want an iMac. See how it doesn't really make a difference (with a small hike due to currency exchange rate, not a flat 10%. That was just for emphasis.)

Apple arrogance is creeping in to their reputation. They need to find a way to reverse the perception of their company.

Easily solved.

Simply amend the link titled "Samsung/Apple UK judgement" and put another link next to it headed "Samsung/Apple USA judgement".

Both rulings say the same in regards to the Galaxy Tab. Be it the EU's community design registration '607 or the US Design patent D'889, both courts found the Galaxy Tab to have not infringed Apple's registered designs.

So what would that solve exactly ?

Apple know they are wrong. They going to find themselves in more hot water messing with the judges. Destruction in 5, 4, 3, 2....

it amuses me to no end.

There are a few of us here, who i'd consider actually intelligent. Who can be critical of apple, while also enjoying their products as they fit into needs we may have.

I consider you, Samcraig and a few others of this likemind.

Yet anytime we're critical immediately we're "fandroids". many of us are completely agnostic as to who we use. I love my Apple products. I don't love Apple as a corporation. I wont defend apple corporation for violating ruling because I love my Macbook Air or iPod.

And when you actually have valid points against and Apple fanboys blind devotion to the company, the immediate response is "well, YOU'RE JUST A FANDROID!'

now come on. really? cause the 1 Android device I ever owned makes me an android (and i'm not an android fan, as I believe the OS itself has some serious issues).

I think this "arrogance" you speak of is only known to the tech community. Regular folks don't care or know.

Apple has been wording everything like this since you know Steve Jobs. They pride themselves on their products and in their marketing. So yea, it's seen as arrogance. It's not really without merit, when every review of their products sing praises.

I may want an iMac, but I don't need an iMac, if thy were to inflate the prices for the holiday season I can easily wait a few weeks until it is over - no point paying a lot of extra money for something I don't immediately need, especially as a student.

I wouldn't mind waiting until it was readjusted, especially since I'd be able to see benchmarks and further make my mind up if it is worth a purchase.

The iMac was already priced higher than the previous, I can't imagine them bumping it significantly higher without any complaints.

You can say a lot of things about Apple. One thing you would have trouble justifying is a claim that they were "ethically sound"

Agreed. I didn't say that before, and I'm not saying it now, because I wouldn't know. (Sounds as if you were implying I did)

It is really amazing how limited words are in expressing ideas and how difficult it makes the communication process.

You should know by now, if you don't defend Apple at any situations, you are officially a Samsung S3 owner. You don't even need to praise Android or bash Apple! If you don't agree with Apple in everything they do, you are a fandroid. Yup!

Really? There are 3 middle-aged women sat opposite me who've bought Android phones in the past quarter specifically because they didn't want to spend on a "smug phone".

The thing is, you are clearly being sarcastic but a lot of people seem to think like that.

I personally own a Samsung Galaxy S3, I waited until the iPhone 5 was released but I didn't see anything brought to the table that would be worth paying such a premium over a device that does everything I need and more.

I liked iOS to begin with but to me it is getting really boring and hasn't really changed all that much lately - part of that for me is the OTT use of the skeumorphism which, since the lead iOS designer was 'removed', we hopefully will see a lot less of.

I am in no ay biased towards any company, but people seem to take it as a personal attack when you point out that Apple has done something bad.

Umm... didn't Apple just quote what the judge said?

Partially.

They took out a lot of the context.

I can't really find fault in that though.

The problem that arose was the "message" and then the final paragraph.

The sum of the ruling was that Apple was to post a clear statement stating that Samsung did not copy Apple.

Apple posted "the judge ruled samsung didnt copy apple because apple is cooler"

then posted a "BUUTTTTTTTTTTT, other courts in the world don't agree with the UK judge"

it was the implied "we're only posting this cause we were told to" and the explicit references to other court verdicts as to imply the court decision in the UK isn't as valid or important.

The point is, you wouldn't be even considering "bringing my business elsewhere". Because really, other AIOs is just not the same.

I think between waiting and maybe 20-50 pound increased in price, you wouldnt bother to wait.

They are free to say so.

They are not free to go against a judge in a country they operate in.

They are free to not operate in the UK. They would, therefore, not have to abide by such a ruling.

Simple.

Apple, and no other business, is above the law.

Agreed, Apple, and no other business, is above the law. But you are coming from the court's standpoint, that they did in fact go against the judge's ruling and that the court is, in fact, right.

Myself and others are arguing that the court is wrong here, that the ruling sucks, that Apple did comply, and that them adding the text the way they did was not wrong of them to do (again, I'm aware that the courts say it is).

I personally am not arguing in favor of illegal behavior per se, but instead for the idea that sometimes the law is wrong and should be fought, regardless of whether it is you, me, Apple, Samsung, or otherwise, that is to be doing the fighting.

Debate is one thing. Ignorance, stupidity and reading comprehension is another. You want to debate with a little intellect I am all for it. But when people refuse to understand the thing they are debating - their opinion is worthless. It's a waste of bandwidth.

Who does these "Lords" think they are? Aren't they overreaching a bit with their "powers"? Maybe Apple should just pull out of the UK altogether.

I read the posts, evaluated the ethics of the companies involeed, and bought a Galaxy 3 today .
It does what i says on the tin , not what the company tell it to do .

Ithankyew .

I've owned apple products since 2004, but this year stopped buying because of the companys' ethics and customer support.

Who did SAMSUNG copy? :apple:

I was looking at some 'smartphones' and it was obvious that everyone copied the 'original'. They are so similar as to be hard to tell them apart! What was the original? PALM? Oh, maybe SAMSUNG did invent all of them! Wow! We owe so much to SAMSUNG for creating such a fantastic product! I wonder what they are going to invent next? Let's see if they invent the next windows phone also! I can't wait!!! WOW!
