There is no way Apple has been selling iPhones with a charger for 12+ years and they are including the 5W charger for free. The price is all included, We are paying premium prices. Apple is not just going to sell the iPhones and pay for $29 themselves. It was us, the consumers ended up paying for the price.
Even the 5W would have been something to charge with slowly although then they couldn't give you only the C to Lightning. One of the issues is they didn't mention anything when ordering. Sure we knew until the end of time what was going on, and we most all have cables and chargers galore. The laymen don't read Apple News 24/7 so they would be blindsided to open the box and see no charging brick.

Good. I’m all for cutting down on waste but we all know it’s straight up a money grab. If it weren’t, Apple would allow people to get a free charger per new iPhone if truly needed.
Sure, not including the charger has certainly been a part of the price calculation. I would assume including the charger now in Brasil will show in a higher price tag for the device. If I have the choice I would rather pay a little less if I have a charger at home anyway.

Suitable for the people of Brazil. Apple delivers a Lightning to USB-C; who had a USB-C charger prior if the only product from Apple they had was an iPhone?
When I buy a new phone I want a new charging cord & a new power adapter out of the box for $1K + no questions asked. What’s next Apple selling new MacBooks with no power adapters included also 😒

There could absolutely be "a way". Fine if you don't agree, but you're still labeling your conjecture as unsupported fact.

I'm not even convinced it actually cut down waste. They switched the included cable to USB-C -> Lightning rather than USB-A, and many people don't have extra USB-C charging bricks lying around. That resulted in a lot of people now having to buy separate chargers with their iPhones, and those of course came in their own packaging and generated more waste (and emissions from transportation) than just packaging it with the phone would have.

I'm not even quite sure why they did it. The charger can't have been expensive to manufacture and there isn't exactly a huge opportunity cost to it either (not everyone is going to buy the official Apple branded charger). It just doesn't make much sense to me.
This is why they should have included the USB-C chargers for another generation or two before they stopped including them.

After three years of USB-C chargers included, on both Android and iOS phones, pretty much everyone will have a charger and then it would be okay to stop including them.

But they stopped including them RIGHT AFTER the switch to USB-C. There was barely any time for people to acquire new USB-C chargers.

Think of going to Mcdonalds and ordering a 🍔 Big mac. But you don't get any buns and cheese. You have to ask for the buns and cheese to be included for some extra $.
This actually happened to me in 1992 while visiting Peru, I went to a burger place and they gave me a burger with no bun. When I asked for the bun, they looked at me funny...

Edit: And no cheese either!

Even though most people buy their own chargers since the included one was slow as hell, but it would be nice to have a power adapter if you spend $800 and more on a phone. I love how Apple again hides behind the environment selling power adapters and cables separately to increase revenue.

Quite simple actually, and not for 'conspiracy' reasons like so many claim.

The box went to half the height.

In 2020 air freight was both extremely expensive AND in short supply. Shrinking the boxes allowed Apple to fit close to twice as many iPhones in half the space.

As much as people might scream that they'd have waited longer...we know that's not true.
That's a good point, it's really the only logical reason I can think of. Even then, a company like Apple could have easily found a way to ship them anyway even if it were temporarily for a slightly increased cost. I still don't think it was a particularly good trade off, but this is at least a reason that makes sense.

The funny thing is they stopped including them once the charger was decent at 18W. I was using an iPad one already around the iP5 I think instead of that junky 5W

This should have been done in the U.S. too. So many people out there buy iPhones and they have no idea they have to buy and pay for the charger separately. Or Apple could have provided a free charger if needed.

And yet, in EU they want to force manufacturers to not include chargers to reduce e-waste. It is the number one reason behind the Common Charger regulations.

How will this reduce the carbon emission from Apple?

The purpose is to produce as few chargers as possible, thus reducing the carbon footprint of Apple.

A charger can be used for 10-15 years, maybe even 20 years. And so you can use with multiple iPhones and other products.

Okay. What about companies that sells product without battery? I’m not agreeing with what apples doing. But if you are citing the same reason as “incomplete product” so product without battery should also fall under this I would argue.

Interesting logic. Reminds me of a story once about a friends teenage child that bought a car and didn't realize they had to buy car insurance.

Seriously...buyer beware.

Apple should be able to grab as much money as they want. You should be able to not buy from them as a result of your displeasure. Anything else is wrong.
Well, there are established consumer protection laws that would bed to differ.

So you're telling people that they should buy an inferior product if they don't want to spend extra money on something that came part of the package for years?

They can use the chargers they already have for their old iPhones. You can use a 20 year old USB charger to charge an iPhone.

Worst case, you have to buy a lightning cable if you're new to iPhones.
