Apple is showing its arrogance and disrespect to Brazil. They have their consumer laws and if Apple doesn’t want to abide by them they don’t have to sell their products in that country. Actually, I think the court in Brazil is being lenient where they could have banned Apple from selling anything After they thumbed their nose after paying a $2 million fine, and also losing the individual lawsuit too… That is a sure sign that Apple’s board of directors needs to be refreshed and the Wall Street mindset flushed from Apple’s ranks… they can spend huge sums with a PR firm trying to mold the public image of Apple being a good corporate neighbor and citizen, when truth is they are everything but that… This type of thing is showing up more and more in Apples products and is evidence Apple has lost its creative and innovative ways, and are now just trying to ride the coat tails of past successes and designs… thats not going to last much longer.

I've seen many ppl here complaining Apple keeps or raise the prices after they removed the charger. I don't know where you all live. But last time I checked, we have world inflation crisis for the last couple years!

I can see the charging problem for people who don't own a phone now and trying to get a new iPhone. But.. who doesn't have a cellphone now? Anyone really care about their 90 yr old grandma cannot charge her new iPhone 14 Pro Max?

Also, Brazil doesn't care about environmental problem. Google 'Brazil government amazon deforestation'
They did not lower the price when they first removed earbuds and charger. That was before inflation.

How about using an USB-A to Lightning cable with your old USB-A chargers?
Worst, case you would have to buy a cable.

Why do so many people think an USB-C charger is required to charge a new iPhone?
Why should anyone have to buy anything else to use their device? Yeah, this person might have an old cable, but what if that cable is 5 years old and frayed?

Even then, if someone is new to Apple and doesn't have a USB-C charger, then what? Buy a USB-A to lightning cable? Why should that be the burden of the user. It's not a screen protector or case.

There could absolutely be "a way". Fine if you don't agree, but you're still labeling your conjecture as unsupported fact.
It's not conjecture, it's simply math. When you buy an iPhone you pay for everything that's included and then some, it's certainly not sold at a loss.

This should have been done in the U.S. too. So many people out there buy iPhones and they have no idea they have to buy and pay for the charger separately. Or Apple could have provided a free charger if needed.

Think of going to Mcdonalds and ordering a 🍔 Big mac. But you don't get any buns and cheese. You have to ask for the buns and cheese to be included for some extra $.
That analogy does not make sense at all. According to your analogy iPhone should have come without a battery or screen and you had to purchase these elements in order to use the iPhone.

iPhone comes with a cable that can charge it with any computer/charger that is currently at your household.

PS: in your analogy it would be something like ordering a meal from a restaurant to go and they don't give you a bag for it. Since you have many reusable bags at home, come with one when ordering take away food.

iPhone price increases have out-paced inflation since it released. Up until recently, inflation was 2% on average year-over-year. iPhone prices have grown above that. Even if inflation was 10%. A 10% increase on a $800 phone is $80 not $100.

The laymen don't read Apple News 24/7 so they would be blindsided to open the box and see no charging brick.

The laymen don't make it a problem either.

When my mother in her 60ties got a new iPhone, she didn't even use the included cable. She used the same charger and cable she use for her iPad and the previous iPhone.

In fact, that charger has stayed in the same socket for years with cable hanging out and nothing changed for her.

When I said not including a charger was indefensible, I figured it'd be 100% agreement but apparently even that has people taking the opposite argument.

Quite simple actually, and not for 'conspiracy' reasons like so many claim.

The box went to half the height.

In 2020 air freight was both extremely expensive AND in short supply. Shrinking the boxes allowed Apple to fit close to twice as many iPhones in half the space.

As much as people might scream that they'd have waited longer...we know that's not true.

Yeah that picture shows double size box and I get it

I think they could have made the box 1 inch longer and still make it skinnier and accommodate the new USB charging brick

They would have only a 15% box dimension difference maybe.

I have zillions of electronic devices and even I did not have enough USB-C.

But you don't need an USB-C charger to charge an iPhone! You can use any old USB-A charger.
but the cable included was a usbc to lightning cable.

If only they included a hybrid usbc/a to lightning cable in the box, it would have made 100% sense and noone would be bitching about it.

Oh wait... They probably would.

Good. I’m all for cutting down on waste but we all know it’s straight up a money grab. If it weren’t, Apple would allow people to get a free charger per new iPhone if truly needed.

Yes, I'm sure people are having to choose between feeding their families and buying a $10-$20 charger (or adapter) after buying this luxury item after failing to do their research. This whole controversy is simply silly. Apple should be able to sell whatever they want as long as they clearly state what you're getting, which they do.

Not only that, but it just feels downright wrong to open an iPhone box and not get the charger brick and headphones 😑

I thought that when this started, but then would you have to prove somehow you did need one, which there is no way to prove. Everyone would get one if it were free. It was more obviously a money grab because the phone price stayed the say or increased.
If they provided a USB-A I wouldn't say I needed one, because I have a ton of those. But if they were offering USB-C I'd claim I Needed one.
