I think the Ipod Touch is getting the 3,2 Mill. camera built in.

I think otherwise. :D
Doesn't seem like the iPod Touch would get a camera. If it did get it, then it would be cutting into the iPhone's market share.

for the june release?

I am guessing this is for the June 09 rumored release??? I have mixed feelings about this due to personal reasons. I just upgraded to 3g so if a better product comes out just a few months after the splurge... man I hope they give the option to their previous customers to upgrade (again) but for a much lower price.

3.2 ?? That is tiny, get me 5+!

3 MP is good enough to do a 40x60 cm print - if the sensor is big enough. Did that with my old compact camera. I for one would not want to waste 2 MP per image on detail the lens cannot deliver.

Faster camera, please!

Having browsed through the iPhone pool on Flickr, what I feel would be most interesting camera-wise on a new iPhone would not be quality so much as speed -- the ability to grab your phone from the pocket and take a picture immediately instead of having to fiddle around with unlocking and finding the right app. A dedicated button would rock - though of course Apple hates buttons, so it's probably not going to happen.

In terms of camera speed how long does it take from pressing the camera button to the photo being taken? I have seen so many of my mates photos ruined because they pressed the button and then moved the phone before it had taken the pic and all your left with is a blurry mess :p

If there are 2 iphones coming out one in the summer and one a bit later. That the 3.2 MP camera is for the first iphone and the 5 MP camera for a later one?

Im imagining with other companies attempting to step it up... Apple is going to hopefully blow them out of the water..

5 megapixel = Tablet product...?

Does anyone else think it's weird that the first half of this rumor completely came true, leaving us only with a 5 megapixel camera to go either in:

  1. The new iPod touch (not likely, probably will get 3.2 just like 3GS)
  2. The "Tablet" device

Frankly, I'm surprised someone else hasn't pointed this out yet, but figured I would.

Thoughts?

5 megapixel camera in "tablet" device [MacRumors rumor]

From a story published back on April 3, 2009:

In a brief report, DigiTimes claims that Apple has placed orders with OmniVision Technologies for both 3.2 and 5-megapixel image sensors. The 3.2-megapixel sensor is reportedly destined for the next-generation iPhone, while the 5-megapixel sensor is claimed to be for a separate product launching later this year. Both the original iPhone and the iPhone 3G utilize a 2-megapixel camera, and speculation regarding a higher resolution camera in the next-generation iPhone has been popular for some time now. Evidence of a "Publish Video" screen in the iPhone OS 3.0 beta and supporting claims of a video camera in the next-generation iPhone suggest that Apple is targeting significant improvements to the iPhone's imaging capabilities.

That's kind of weird I guess. Would it be for iSight or what not, or what would it be used for?

I would say yes, iSight, but beyond that, I'm not sure what. You raise a good point. Maybe its on the back of the device? But that doesn't make sense to me, why put a 5 megapixel camera on the back of it, if all you need there is a 3.2? I would think if this thing is going on the device (if one exists), it would go on the front as an iSight.

With that said, what does the iSight get used for on anyone's MBA, MB, or MBP? Pretty much only iChat, Skype, etc. So I guess it would be feasible for them to do the same on the "Tablet"...right?

tablet != iphone :rolleyes:

Yes I have in fact already thought about this and seen it asked about here on MR. I guess this is possible, but with what little info we have on the tablet it just seems impractical. I mean won't the thing be laying down flat in front of you? It's conceivable that it will come with a kick out stand to set it up. Of course everything is speculation right now. I really hope apple blows us out of the water with this thing :)

If they use the camera I really, really, REALLY hope they put it behind the screen (somehow). that would make video conferencing so much better. I really want to be able to look at the other person in the eyes while looking at their face... (I'm about to be seperated from my gf for months)
