Can someone explain the difference between just using apple pay as an RFID payment option and when a retailer begins to accept Apple Pay? All of the businesses that take contactless payments said that they don't accept Apple Pay yet, but it would work just fine. This was the case with taxi's, grocery stores and pharmacies. Only recently have they started branding their registeres with the Apple Pay decals, but it has always worked. What's the difference?

Businesses that accept contactless also accept Apple Pay.

Don't ever ask a cashier at a store about payment advice... They never know what they're talking about.

Told us what - where did you write that Apple Pay was officially coming to Canada, on May 10, 2016?

Oh. Whoops. I guess it wasn't on this forum, but somewhere else. Sorry!

Also, while I didn't say it would be coming today, I DID say it would be coming to at least one of the big five banks in Canada this year (and a lot of people called me an idiot for that, so jokes on them now).

Just added my RBC Visa and Debit, finally a reason to take the wallet app out of the useless "utilities" folder. Been waiting for this since before I even had a phone that could use it so I'm very glad the Canadian banks have finally come on board.

For those with a BMO MasterCard (like I will have), MasterCard said in the coming weeks, not months.

http://newsroom.mastercard.com/pres...available-to-canadian-mastercard-cardholders/

"TORONTO, May 10, 2016 /CNW/ - Today, MasterCard announced it will bring its cardholders Apple Pay, which is transforming mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay that's fast and convenient. MasterCard credit cardholders banking with Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), Canadian Tire Bank and ATB Financial can pay with Apple Pay starting today, and cardholders who bank with BMO Financial Group (BMO) will be able to use Apple Pay in the coming weeks."

I think the difference is that the ones that officially support Apple Pay have trained their customer service reps to understand what Apple Pay is (with that said, a lot of those guys are probably untrainable and probably wouldn't be able to tell in the first place). Also, it's a marketing thing (by definition, Android Pay and Samsung Pay are also "supported", but not officially).

To this day, you still see a confused look on a McDonald's cashier's face when you use Apple Pay in the states... And Apple Pay rolled out there a year and a half ago.

In the UK there is a limit of £30 per contactless transaction. That's because there is no identity check. You just wave the card near the reader and you are done. With Apple Pay there is an identity check via the finger print and therefore no limit. Therefore if I don't see the Apple Pay logo I assume I'm limited to £30 max.

Not sure if it's the same in Canada.

Get the feeling that Apple are using Amex for leverage, in the same way they used AT&T with the launch of the original iPhone (and other exclusive operators in other countries).

I believe you are 100% right.

This should actually be called the launch of Apple Pay in Canada. That exclusive crap that Apple did with Amex is BS. I know a bunch of people that went and got Amex cards, just so they could have this. We should have had this at least a year ago.
(happy though - both RBC and CIBC are my banks - already added my cards) :D

See above.

Your phone doesn't support Apple Pay. Your phone doesn't have NFC. Do you even know the first thing about your phone or do you just blindly buy a phone because it's an iPhone?

Unhelpful trollistic trash talk from AmericanHero (LoL).

DeafGoose: 5s doesn't support ApplePay directly, but coupled with the goodness of an Apple Watch, your entry into the ranks of Apple Pay enlightened users is ensured (provided your bank card is also enlightened.)

Has anyone successfully added TD Visa or a TD Access Card (with Visa Debit)? Just tried it upon seeing the news and see the usual message about the card not being supported by Apple Pay. (iPhone 6 Plus - iOS 9.3.1). AMEX is still working happily :)

Not sure if this was already stated somewhere else but the statement "iPhone and iPad models with the Touch ID feature.." is false iPhone 5s does not support Apple Pay.
Yup! It still need to have NFC capabilities

Re-Read the article. Only RBC and CIBC have launched but the other banks of the big 5 (TD included) are coming soon.
