In the UK there is a limit of £30 per contactless transaction. That's because there is no identity check. You just wave the card near the reader and you are done. With Apple Pay there is an identity check via the finger print and therefore no limit. Therefore if I don't see the Apple Pay logo I assume I'm limited to £30 max.

Not sure if it's the same in Canada.

Unfortunately not, My Morrisons has cardboard Apple Pay collars around all its CC machines, but still has the £30 limit. The slow adoption rate of limitless Apple Pay has been my only grip with the service, otherwise, it's a beautiful service I use all the time.

You'd think a business would make it as easy as possible for people to spend as much as possible.

Re-Read the article. Only RBC and CIBC have launched but the other banks of the big 5 (TD included) are coming soon.

Early morning, lack of coffee, unable to read. Pick one :D

Thanks. Re-read and yeah, TD isn't happening right now. Ah well, this is the reason why I picked up an AMEX, so I could use Apple Pay. Very seriously thinking of just dumping TD.

Anyone know about CIBC Business accounts? I always get a non-tap card for my business account. Do they even offer the tap card for business accounts? Tried to add mine but it asks for a security code and my card doesn't have one. It's not a tap card so wouldn't work anyway.

Everytime I get it replaced I get a new non-tap card.

Just added my RBC Visa and Debit, finally a reason to take the wallet app out of the useless "utilities" folder. Been waiting for this since before I even had a phone that could use it so I'm very glad the Canadian banks have finally come on board.

You can leave it in the utilities folder. The best way to bring up the wallet app is to double tap the home button from the lock screen.

It's been a while since I worked in retail but it used to be 25$ for restaurants, 150$ for gaz and 100$ for other transactions with RFID. It could have changed though.

Well look at that, back to the useless folder you go wallet haha. Thanks for the tip, that speeds things up. I've never had Apple Pay so I never bothered looking into its settings and such.

Your phone doesn't support Apple Pay. Your phone doesn't have NFC. Do you even know the first thing about your phone or do you just blindly buy a phone because it's an iPhone?

That's a little harsh. Apple pay didn't exist when the 5s came out so it's not like he/she could have taken that into consideration at the time. Many people mistakenly believe that any of the models with TouchID support Apple Pay. Just because someone doesn't know every technical aspect of their phone doesn't mean that they just blindly bought it because of the brand name.

That's it. This makes ApplePay near universally accepted. No need for explicit ApplePay support. Everywhere already accepts it. 99.999% of places I've paid debit will accept tap here in Toronto. This will let me leave my cards safely at home and not have to carry a wallet.

If it's anything like RBC, it's only personal cards. My friend tried his business Visa this morning and it didn't work.

CIBC's Apply Pay Page doesn't seem to mention business cards.

Happy for you Canada!
One of the main Aussie banks just got on board here 2 weeks back. I haven't had to pull out my (physical) wallet since!

The best way to bring up wallet when paying is to hold the iPhone up to the card reader with your finger on your Touch ID.
Definitely seems that way. I haven't actually paid for anything yet but was testing it out and Touch ID on my 6S seems fast enough that by the time I get the double tap done my card is already at the "hold to reader" stage.

You know what the funny thing is? These SAME retailers complain about having to support contactless or chip in the United States, yet they're all equipped to do both of those in Canada.

Pizza Hut, Staples, Tim Horton.. .All of them aren't even remotely close to being up to date on payment technology in the United States.
I don't think the really care one way or the other about supporting contactless/chip-n-pin payments. They do care about the financial cost of updating their equipment. Depending on the size of the company, it's not an inconsequential sum. That's typically what it always boils down to: What's this gonna cost me?

I don't think you can do it with the debit card. Mine doesn't have tap capability either. You'll have to use the business credit card.

Business VISA does work. I just added mine.

I believe you are 100% right.
See above.

Nope, I disagree. Amex charges vendors a higher percentage than the other cards, so it was much easier for them to share their "pound of flesh" with Apple. The Banks in Canada (which issue Visa/Mastercard) were more difficult to negotiate with - less profit to slice up.

Every time I see an article related to Canada I am reminded for some strange reason of this

typical RBC. It says I can activate the card by downloading their wallet app...downloaded it and nothing to do with activating the card shows up. Thanks for making it easy RBC lol
