What they don't get is that this needs to be at least simpler and better than what we have today. QR codes and a dedicated app are worse, and more complicated, than even CASH. So people will just use cash, it's a great invention.

Glad to see Verifone understands where things are headed and is embracing the technology. I see their terminals everywhere.

This would be like Goodyear telling consumers to embrace automobiles.

Good for Verifone for making the statement, but they are essentially a partner at this point for Apple and Google. NFC technology is going to lead to a lot of Verifone terminals in stores. They're looking to ride the wave.

QR code transaction has been on in China and other Asian countries for quite a while, and are very popular. Companies like Alibaba are even testing out scanning personalized objects/patterns like a gestures, tattoos, face, your pets... to make payments... and here in the USA, because it's a competitor to Apple, it's a bad thing...

This CurrentC non-sense is doing one thing that nothing else could. It is uniting iOS and Android users in their fight to continue using NFC. What affects Apple Pay also affects Google Wallet.

For the most part, you are correct.

But take a look at the CVS thread that blew up this weekend on the front page. It's full of people that were harassing those who knew how bad MCX and CurrentC was. Time after time, I and many others tried to explain the situation to them, and they refused to listen. All they could do is make fun of us because in their eyes, it was all about fanboys wanting to use Apple Pay.

I sure hope they see how wrong they were and how foolish they look.

They were caught unawares.

They've been developing this horrible, useless system for a while, still have not gotten it off the ground...and :apple:Pay came and swooped in out of nowhere, and suddenly no one wants to use anything else.

This entire Merchant Consortium joke-of-a-thing is scrambling right now to figure out what to do....and the answer is going to be shut down, disband, and support :apple:Pay.

The longer it takes them to figure this out, the more their businesses are going suffer from 1) Bad PR, and 2) Consumer's choosing with their iWallet.

I'd be happy to boycott these douchebags if I could even use :apple:Pay I'm still waiting for US Bank, ATT Citi card, and a couple others to allow me to add my accounts. Hurry up you (bleeps)

If you were to ask a random person how they would make a complicated and non-secure payment system with their phone, there's a good chance they would come up with something like CurrentC.

Also CurrentC is essentially a debit transaction. So no rewards, reduced fraud protection and increased likelihood of getting actual cash stolen from your bank account (Compared to a credit card being stored locally with Apple Pay.)

This is what will ultimately be a deal breaker for me. Getting a fraudulent charge removed from your Visa or Mastercard is only a matter of a simple phone call. Your bank, on the other hand, may hold you liable for the fraudulent charge. There aren't many things that could break me financially, but having my bank account cleaned out by fraud is probably one of them. I'll happily pay the 2% Visa/Mastercard/AmEx fee for insurance against that possibility.

and in the days to weeks a highly skilled person would need to replicate a usable print, you would have disabled the cards from use in apple pay.

On the contrary, it takes just a few hours to make a usable fake from a good print, and almost anyone with slight skills can do it.

However, I keep pointing out that it's not strangers / thieves that we need worry about.

It's the people around us who have plenty of time and opportunity to get a good print, make (and even test) a fingerprint without us knowing about it, then use it while we're asleep or distracted.

In other words, our teenage kids, disgruntled or joker coworkers, or our evil college roommate :)

No it's the merchants against the credit card companies. The merchants do not want to pay the credit card companies a transaction fee. CurrentC/MCX wants to use Automated Clearing House (ACH) to process their transactions. And the only way to use Automated Clearing House (ACH) is to give the mechant your Bank/Checking Account number, Social Security Number, and Drivers License number.

Exactly. MCX is, at its core, a Walmart operation, and you've got to remember that Walmart REALLY hates Visa.

Maybe a stupid point/question.....If the CurrentC system requires an App.....why doesn't Apple and Google just boycot the app from their respective stores? It's a dirty fight fire with fire move but it would really prevent currentC from mass market adoption....which I'd argue they would not get anyway.

I've never seen anything indicating this happens often enough to be an issue. Seems like a silly thing to worry about, stranger or not.

Or you could just go with mainstream credit cards.

Anyone know why they're taking so long to release this? QR codes have been in use for how many years..?

If it's so great, why disable NFC? Let it stand on it's own. If people like it, they will use it. If not, they will use Google Wallet, :apple:Pay, or any other payment service they choose.

If you don't trll Bergen they'll think everythings OK

I'll still shop at these places but I'll use my credit card or cash. Just how I use it anywhere else that doesn't have NFC. We aren't being forced to use this new system.

I'll shop at these places if they also take NFC. But I won't support them if they're boycotting NFC.

CVS is easy to avoid, because Walgreens takes :apple: Pay and other NFC payments. That part is done.
