Sorry. It should be more "Our banks sucks and refuse anything not invented by them. I don't see it coming until they stop being stupid"

That is so true. They are procrastinating, hoping customers will forget all about it and move on.

What Apple should do in Canada is say "first bank onboard pays either no transaction fee for heavily reduced". Watch how fast they sign up.

Sadly, the higher ups probably don't even think about Apple Pay when they go to work. Probably will never come here.

At the end of the day, Apple is here for profit too. They will never give ground, especially not for free.

Not the department that lets you unblock charges. Why would I lie about that?

Please explain to me how their card services team (who would unblock and block charges) isn't active 24/7/365. All of the card companies offer their services 24/7. You cannot be serious right now...

Yeah you may not be able to activate Apple Pay at your local credit union, because it's community based, but American Express is a worldwide company.

You guys are so lucky in Australia.

Pretty much every store accepts chip and contact-less payments.

Here in the United States, merchants drag their feet on everything, and Americans are afraid and resistant to anything but swiping the magnetic stripe on their card to pay.

Australian bank rocks up to shop: Here's your new terminal, this is how we do things now.
Shop owner: No worries, mate. Thanks.

CC charges are capped in Canada by the Feds. Why would Canadian banks who have been in the forefront with Chip & Pin and contactless pay want to give any portion to Apple. If Apple didn't dig into the Canadian bank fees I'm sure they would be welcome.

Call Apple Customer Service and tell them to not charge their Apple Pay fees in Canada,
Maybe because the Feds cap the charge there is no incentive for them to innovate.

The retailers here blame the banks for dragging their feet on certifying the chip system. Most retailers have the equipment but haven't turned them on yet.

Or Apple bribed the heck out of ANZ, to get their foot in the door and force others to sign up.
That's pretty cynical - I don't think negotiating a lower fee for a secure payment service would have involved any sort of bribery. Notwithstanding, the end result is the same, with all parties benefiting, I'm sure.

Well it's great news that ANZ now supports it. It's time for the other major banks to start supporting it as well.
Although I'd like MasterCard support for ApplePay too please. Otherwise it's useless for me.

It's not just that, though. The branding for Apple is stronger than their own and they don't want their branding overshadowed. There are other as well, but the fees and my above reasons are the certainly the biggest.

I mean, why else is Android Pay and Samsung Pay not officially accepted in Canada?

Samsung Pay will come this year to Canada - put onto Samsung's road map for this year.

Thats because, as the article goes: "Interchange fees levied by banks on retailers for handling card transactions are typically much lower in Europe than in the US, leaving less room for Apple to take its cut"

Right, Apple so *did* give ground to UK banks.. we can agree on that, in contrary to what you posted:

Lets not forget that interchange fees are also way lower in Canada (like the UK), so Apple will have to give in, at least a little.

REALLY!!! Everyone needs a bank (or other financial institution) in their daily lives ... ABSOLUTELY no one needs Apple for anything ... there certainly is an arrogance that comes with the Apple name.

I was recently travelling in the US and found that out the hard way.

When I got there, I found that the magnetic strip on my card didn't work. It was an older card, but I'd never realised that it had a defective strip, because I'd literally never swiped the card in Australia. That just never happens. It is 100% chip and/or contactless there.

I can't really see too much incentive for Apple Pay in Australia, given that everyone is used to just waving their credit card over the reader anyway. Apple Pay isn't at that much of an advantage given the convenience of contactless payment (which has been commonplace for many years).

BMO doesn't have interact flash yet (I use BMO too). Wouldn't be surprised if they are the last bank to get Apple pay.

soon... good things come to those that wait?

BMO branches are getting new batches of cards which have tap

I'm telling you it wasnt available and yes it did cause me quite a bit of grief... the 24/7 team kept telling me to call back on Monday during business hours for a different department to release the charge... they couldn't do it. By the time that happened almost a WEEK LATER the exchange rate had dropped a bit on the Canadian side and I ended up paying a few hundred dollars more for the item.

If you were defending American Express because you're an employee by any means I can forward you my case number and if you could help I would love for you to. I would really appreciate that. Otherwise it's weird that you're so adamant that they're the greatest thing ever...they're not.

They're just like any other credit card company, with better rewards, less acceptance and the same customer service as the big 2.

Yes, ANZ! Ahead of the already behind game!

Added my debit card, sucks that I can't add my MasterCard yet though. One step at a time.
