Here in Italy I use Apple Pay whenever i can, it’s just so easy for me to use my Apple Watch to pay instead of taking out my wallet every time and then as usual if the change has some coins I have to stay there for 10 seconds in order to put them inside.

I loved Apple Pay a lot more with Touch ID. It's annoying as heck with Face ID.

Whoever is the genius who added that "Double press the side button" to use it with FaceID should be fired (also the person who thought on the X to do a screen shot push two buttons right opposite one another so I frequently take screen shots accidentally).

Id rather pull out plastic card as it's less a hassle than juggling my $1000 iPhone X to press the button twice..

Apple Watch FTW. Best way to enjoy Apple Pay.

I think I’ve used twice since it came to the UK and my bank adopted it. Asked for pin both times. I suspect growth is in countries moving from signing to contactless which have been still on pin. I don’t bother with phone as card is much easier: as I said growth may be in markets where movedment is from pre contactless cards.

I'm in the UK and use it every time I'm at a card machine. They're basically all contactless now. Apply Pay has no limit, using contactless on a card is £30 max. I primarily switched to Apple Pay to make my details more secure... it's really easy to skim the details off a regular contactless card, so I now have a non-contactless card.

Albeit one I use multiple times a day, every day.

Apple Pay on the phone is faster than fishing out my card, while Apple Pay on the watch feels even faster than using the phone.

Haven’t paid with a physical card in a long time.
Same. I even lost one of my physical cards last year. Didn’t even realise for a few weeks because I always use Apple Pay.

I always use it on my Apple Watch because I don’t even have to get my phone out my phone. I find that incredibly useful.

Same. Contactless is everywhere now. Even small local shops have it. Hell even the drinks vending machine on the train platform accepts Apple Pay.

I hate that how peer to peer is set up. Using iMessage doesn’t feel like the best approach.

I wish there was a way to open the wallet app and send money through the wallet. It would be cool to have it set up like AirDrop.

AirDrop cash to each other would be nice.

i had the same thought about AirDrop but what happens if you're not in the same room. You basically have to send it a different way. Which then you may as well send all cash through that way.

I think the point of the article is that despite all these anecdotal "no-one users Apple Pay" posts - you are wrong. Apple Pay growth is strong and, more importantly, accelerating. Its the kind of thing that feeds on itself as people see other people using it ... and moving through check out lines 2-3 times faster than those maddening card-chip readers.

My anecdotal (US) evidence is that retailers small to large are slowly swapping out old POS terminals for Apple Pay enabled ones. I get a lot of "wow-that's cool" when paying with my watch.

Faster than a chip card...nope, more secure, depends where you are, here for instance you won't lose any money when your card gets compromised.
I already have my card in my hand, tap it when I have to pay, that's it, if you use Apple pay you still have to press buttons and look at your phone or tap the touchID.

Apple Pay was absurdly underestimated at launch.

1) builds lock-in
2) more secure
3) send & receive cash from friends
4) whatever else I'm forgetting

Security and avoidance of card clash are the main ones. Also a higher transaction limit than a contactless card and no need to ever enter a PIN to confirm a transaction (about 1 in 10 of card transactions apparently).

The lock-in is not true (at least here in the U.K.). It's just an alternative to less secure contactlesss cards, which are ubiquitous here (I have to ask explicitly to get a card that isn't contactless and some of my banks won't give me one). In fact it works more as a lockout, since not all banks/credit cards support Apple Pay. I haven't used it to send/receive cash from friends: we have a universal system, PayM, that works on a mobile phone id (even for dumb phones) and for bank accounts that don't use Apple Pay (even non-checking accounts, I believe).

I seriously doubt these numbers, at 250m , that maybe more than Visa users in US given in America are 300m people, some will opt for American Express and MasterCard, and some might not have a credit card at all including underage and unemployed people I guess.

I am curious as to how taking a card out of your wallet and putting it away afterwards can be any quicker than double-pressing the home button on my watch.

Not to mention other use cases when I don’t have my card on me, like when I go running (not many people seem to realise that Apple Pay on the watch works even when it isn’t connected to your phone).

Does Apple have commercials about any features? How did people figure out you can use the wallet for boarding passes? How is Apple Pay gaining momentum without Apple advertising it? These days almost every business except cvs, takes Apple Pay.

Not around here. I love using Apple Pay on my watch, but most places don't accept it. Chevron, where I buy most of my gas, only takes Apple Pay inside, not at the pump. IIRC, they were supposed to add this, but haven't so far.

I use apple pay too, but still carry a physical card. But being realistic, getting a card out of my wallet is quicker than getting a phone out, pressing a button and waiting for a second.
As for the Apple watch, that is quicker but I do have some issues with some terminals where it takes a few tries.
What I would like more than Apple pay is to have all my cards on my phone so that I only need to carry a debit card.

I have to say I love Apple Pay.

There are time when the wallet is left at home by accident and it’s saved my skin. It’s practically useless for anything but small purchases due to limits but hopefully those limits will disappear.

I’m actually looking forward to the day crypto payments for goods in store are taken exactly the same way as Apple Pay. Using apples biometrics to do so.

I always knew from the start Apple Pay would be a game changer. Used it since day one with Chase and now that the ATMs can do NFC with my phone without having my card it’s even better.

Always worked great for me and I point at articles like this to people who doubted its success. I use Apple Pay cash too and Zelle for payments to friends banks from Chase app.

Same here. I do like Apple Pay but not many places I shop at accepts it. I do take note at if they do, so next time I know I can use it (e.g Whole Foods)

By the time I realize they accept it, I’ve already taken out my card. Unlike the poster above, I don’t have to fish out my card because I only carry 2 credit cards with me in a thin wallet. The people that generally have this problem are people who carry too much fat in their wallet

I’ve used Apple Pay at Duane Reede in NYC for $250 for a prepaid visa when I lost my debit card. Not sure what the limit is.

I don't carry any of my physical credit cards anymore unless I know I need to make a purchase larger than what I can tap for. If a place doesn't accept it, too bad. Unless it's a restaurant, then the debit card comes out. The strategy saves me from large spontaneous purchases and I have a tiny wallet as well which I like.

Good thing the places that don't accept tap in Canada are few and far in between. Big retailers like Walmart and Home Depot which i don't care for, and Lowes are notable ones.

This is because from my experience on the United app it shows you an option to add your boarding pass to your wallet. That’s how people know about it.

Absolutely love it, and use it all the time on my Apple Watch. In the UK contactless is everywhere (well... in London ) bring on Apple Pay Cash pretty please!❤️❤️❤️

I think Target and Walmart are going to hold out since they want all your data.

Costco now accepts it! Just did it for the first time yesterday.
I also am waiting on Target to start accepting it.

I might have to try Costco, both in-store and at their gas stations. This might be handy. Costco gas station POS systems are very slow with traditional card swipes.

I wish more gas stations adopt Apple Pay because of skimmer scams.

Any Canadians here who use Apple Pay? Do you find many businesses that support it? Is it easy to set up?

All the big banks support Apple Pay (unfortunately the credit card I prefer to use since it gives me better cashback rewards doesn't) and most businesses have POS terminals with contactless payment

I work for a retailer that has contactless payment and customers do use Apple Pay often. Not just younger people but even middle aged ones. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Apple Pay's growth is coming from Canada despite us being a considerably small market

I use it all the time, just recently started using it on the Apple Watch. I find it a little unnatural or inconsistent to use on the X with FaceID.

Admittedly I groan when an establishment isn't set up to accept Apple Pay but I do make an effort to politely suggest to store managers whenever possible.

I would use Apple Pay way more often if more places accepted it.

Agreed. Support really took off several months ago, but it’s not yet to the critical point. I can use my credit cards literally everywhere I buy stuff. If the same were true of Apple Pay, my use would skyrocket because I would stop carrying around credit cards.

Setting > Wallet and Apple Pay > Cards > Apple Pay Cash > Cards Details > Pin
That’s interesting. But what do you do with that? It says 0000, and doesn’t appear that it can be changed. And I’m not sure why I would. I also don’t use my Apple Pay card in stores. I use my regular debit cards & credit cards via Apple Pay.

What would be really helpful would be if they had that same PIN setting for regular debit cards in my wallet, not just Apple’s own card, so that I can add that to settings and not need to do it in store.

Last time I was in OfficeMax (over 9 months ago??) I used Apple Pay. After the transaction, the cashier asked for my ID. The Virginia ABC stores now accecpt mobile transactions but you need to sign the pad after getting the check mark on your phone...
