Sounds about right. Last year, I'd use ApplePay transactions about twice a week. This year, I find myself using it at least once per day.

The difficult thing is convincing my other extended family members (and even close friends) to give ApplePay a try, even though almost all of them use iPhones. I tell them how easy it is to use. And they have the usual stupid hangups like "Ummm but is it safe to use??" Then I just walk away as I don't have time to explain the technology or even the advantages of secure contactless payment systems like ApplePay.

In the end, it's not my crusade to convince people the advantages of using ApplePay (or secure NFC payments in general). It's Apple's responsibility to educate people. Does Apple even have a single TV commercial regarding how easy it is to use ApplePay? I've never seen one.

Totally agree. Panera has the same thing. A separate Panera Rewards card that is kept inside your Apple Wallet. But that card is scanned first (during purchase, to enable available rewards or discounts), and then you do the fingerprint scan again to pay with the (default) ApplePay credit card.
Your avatar is genius.

I also am waiting on Target to start accepting it.

I might have to try Costco, both in-store and at their gas stations. This might be handy. Costco gas station POS systems are very slow with traditional card swipes.

I wish more gas stations adopt Apple Pay because of skimmer scams.

I use the Exxon Mobile app to avoid that. Else use cash.

Same here. I do like Apple Pay but not many places I shop at accepts it. I do take note at if they do, so next time I know I can use it (e.g Whole Foods)

By the time I realize they accept it, I’ve already taken out my card. Unlike the poster above, I don’t have to fish out my card because I only carry 2 credit cards with me in a thin wallet. The people that generally have this problem are people who carry too much fat in their wallet
I don't have to fish my card out of my wallet either, its quick because I have individual slots for my card. It takes me longer to get my rarely used store points cards that are bundled together - I only have 6 quick access slots for things like debit card, medical cards, driver licence so would love widely accepted solution for those on the phone. I do have an app where you can scan them in, but that app is now really slow on my iPhone 6.

Once the tesla gets to Australia, that will be one less thing in my pocket

I'm surprised at the number of places I shop that take apple pay. Most big box stores accept apple pay. Most supermarkets, most fast food places. Lowes, home depot accept it. As you noted, Whole Foods and Trader Joes as well. The holdout is CVS.

Most businesses today, that accept NFC, accept apple pay. Apple pay is much faster than fishing a credit card out, unless one is holding the credit card in their hand. Apple pay is also faster, imo, for whatever reason than a credit card. I always try apple pay first, because until you try you don't know.

On average I use apple pay about 5-6 times a day in various establishments. Even in the corporate building the cafe accepts apple pay as do all of the vending machines. The vending machines in my gym also accepts apple pay.

Faster than a chip card...nope, more secure, depends where you are, here for instance you won't lose any money when your card gets compromised.
I already have my card in my hand, tap it when I have to pay, that's it, if you use Apple pay you still have to press buttons and look at your phone or tap the touchID.

Definitely faster than credit card. For example, was at Costco and just brought phone to card reader and got that satisfying ding immediately. Cashier even said, "wow that was fast."

We (my wife and I) just drove from California to New Orleans and back. We found Loves gas stations to be our favorite and they all took Apple Pay. Was awesome. Just wish the Chevron closer to my work took it.

The term "Apple Pay" is so easy to understand that every shop that has a wireless credit card terminal understands what it is.

The fact that target and Walmart don’t accept Apple Pay makes me like those stores less and less. But I’m guessing they won’t make a change until it starts to hurt their bottom line.

One killer feature that would take Apple Pay to the next level would be if you could link your rewards cards/clubs directly to the transaction itself. For example, Walgreens has a rewards card that you can store in your Apple wallet, but you have to scan it separately, before you scan for your payment. I think it would be amazing if simply using Apple Pay at Walgreens would automatically trigger your Walgreens rewards card, once you set it up that way in Settings.
That does exist. When it prompts for your Balance Rewards on the WalgreensW terminal, you just need to place your iPhone to the terminal and the rewards card will automatically appear, ready for TouchID/FaceID authentication.

Walgreens is the only company in the US that I am aware of that allows you to put your loyalty card in wallet and have it pop up automatically when you move it near the terminal. There are a few other companies, like AMC movie theaters, that allow you to store your loyalty card in Apple wallet, but from my experience you need to manually find the card when you arrive at the cashier, it doesn’t happen automatically.

And certainly nobody has combined or linked the loyalty card directly to the credit card, so that only one “scan” is needed .
That exists with the Coca Cola vending pass.

I have my cards in pockets inside an iPhone case, before even checking out I already have it in my hand, when it's time to pay I hold it against the reader and voila, paid, Apple Pay is not faster in Europe because we already have fast systems here for a long-LONG time unlike the states.

It’s faster on my Apple Watch. I don’t have to take anything out. I’m in the UK.

This article has to be more fake news! The Apple haters on this forum have been telling us since it started that Apple Pay would be a flop. Now we are supposed to believe a quarter of a billion people are using it?? Please!

The problem was believing anything the Apple haters had to say in the first place.

Not if I already have my card in my hand, as I said before, it's more secure, not faster, and probably more convenient if you only have your watch with you or your iPhone, my cards are in pockets in my iPhone case, so for me and most people in Europe it doesn't add anything, the states is backwards regarding this issue.

Speaking of Apple Pay, I was in Costco (San Antonio, TX) yesterday getting a bit of lunch at the deli and I noticed an NFC symbol on the credit card machine screen. I paid with my Apple watch and it worked!! I typically have always attempted to use Apple Pay at most stores since Apple Pay came out a few years ago but definitely did not expect Costco to get on board anytime soon. With the exception of my grocery store HEB, I pretty much use Apple pay for everywhere these days including the vending machines in the lunch room at my job.

I also happened to go to 7-11 last night and successfully used Apple Pay there as well. I was not as surprised though because I knew that was coming per Tim Cook's recent announcement that 7-11 and CVS are now on board with Apple Pay.

As others have said the US is extremely slow to adopt money technology thats been available in Western Europe and probably Japan, Australia and South Korea for decades. I got into an argument recently with a friend who 'doesn't trust' any form of electronic payment. I asked if she trusts the people at the restaurant or store to physically take the card away from where you can see what they are doing to run the bill through, knowing that all you need to use a credit card online is the card number, the expiration date, and the 3 digit code (CCV) on the reverse near where you have to sign your signature. You know, the one no one ever bothers checking. I'm sure THAT system is secure as hell.

Besides, no one has to steal your individual number, they can hack into the bank or store and steal millions of numbers. It happened to Target (and me) twice. I didn't misuse my card or give out information, Target did. The second time I closed the credit card account, opened a new one, and I have never shopped at Target since. And since they won't accept Apple Pay I will at least never use anything but cash if I shop there, which I have avoided doing all but once. I don't care how 'secure' Target says their system is or will be.

Technically it should be the retailer that provides you with a credit card that automatically rewards you.

For example here in Canada we have Presidents Choice MC that automatically rewards you for extra points if you shop at their/partner stores, you can then pay using Apple Pay, without having to prescan the rewards card.

Apple Pay does need an active data connection to work. You can put your phone on flight mode and it will still work.

I think it’s like Google Pay where you can use it without a data connection but periodically you have to enable mobile data/WiFi as it only stores a limited number of ‘tokens’.

In terms of the U.K. has anyone used Apple Pay frequently without the need to insert a card & enter a PIN unlike contactless whereby X amount of transactions can take place before you have to prove you are the card holder?

Yes here, most machines still require chipped cards to be inserted and then wait for approval.

I wonder how often I missed an opportunity to use Apple Pay at a store that accepted NFC payments but the terminal didn't have the AP logo on it.
