hey all, I have an issue with my iPhone 6, iOS 8.2. The last few times I've attempted to use the phone to pay at apple pay supported places, the phone doesn't respond to the terminal. It's supposed to wake up when over the terminal and do the transaction when the finger is on the sensor. This feature has always worked with no issues . It's just lately under iOS 9x i've noticed it not working.

Even when I open wallet and press the sensor the phone doesn't seem to recognize a terminal there.

I restored the phone last night and set it up as a new device, and everything is cleanly reinstalled / added.

I have looked at several threads and there seems to be known issues with apple pay and iOS 9, but none that are specifically like mine. The phone has had no physical damage, it's still in the 1 year warranty as i got it May of last year.

Any help would be appreciated as this was the main reason i upgraded to the iPhone 6.

Might be a hardware issue if the nfc terminal is not being detected by the chip in the phone. Bring it by Apple to have it checked.

Well the best i could do is take it to a verizon wireless corporate store, I don't live near an apple store, and can not drive.

I'm hoping it's only a software thing, however when I took it to the third party verizon place, the guy said i could take it to the corporate store, and shouldn't have an issue with warranty exchange.

Verizon doesn't provide warranty service or replacements for your Apple iPhone.
If it was software then after a restore and setup as new it should work. If not it's probably hardware.

Since I have until May 2016 before my year warranty is up, i'm keeping my fingers crossed there is something going on in software, because i've had other issues too as of upgrading to iOS 9 like random apps running away and draining the battery to dead in minutes. As far as dealing with apple directly i'm looking at asking someone to drive over an hour to get to an apple store, now, I do know of a few authorized apple providers here that service macs, not sure about if they cover iOS devices or not. I am registered with Verizon as disabled as I have a visual impairment and they've told me in the past if i have issues with a phone they would work with me so i'm not stuck without a working phone. In the event this is hardware and could lead to other things I'm still going to investigate my options. If anyone else has any ideas please share. Thanks. BTW the guy who i took it to didn't say verizon wouldn't do somethings, he simply said he couldn't as he wasn't a corporate store. Going to call 611 and see what my options are, thanks again :)

OK, just got off the phone with Verizon Wireless, and the lady on the other end did diagnostics on my phone and everything checks out except the sim card, she said i have an outdate, and possibly failing card. She said NFC relies on the SIM and if it's not working correctly that's most likely why apple pay isn't working. She said Verizon will replace it free of charge. So, if that's all it is, that's good news and an easy fix.

Hope that fixes it. I'd be wary over what kind of device hardware diagnostics Verizon can do remotely via the phone. Wouldnt trust it but if its something as simple as a faulty sim try that first.
If not and you don't have an Apple store near you they can call applecare do a replacement by mail.
Its not instant but its an option if you cant drive far away to an Apple store.

@Applejuiced The verizon visit didn't fix the problem. I spoke with applecare last night and they sent me a new phone. I got it today and the problem is fixed.currently waiting for FedEx to come get the old phone. The sensor must have failed in the other phone like the apple tech thought as well as the phone was also having random battery issues.

Anyway tested the new phone at office depot today and it worked instantly with apple Pay, so I'm good to go, thanks again for the help :)

Gotta love Apple replacement policy. Why in future I will buy direct from Apple and no longer from carrier.

Well, I rarely have issues with apple products, but this was one of those rare times where something went wrong, no one would have expected to. (especial since the phone was in pristine condition ) Being someone with a technical background in repair I'm still curious what happened to make the sensor fail, but i doubt apple will tell me. Anyway the important thing is it was taken care of in a very timely fashion. I'm also going to give apple credit for great customer service toward someone who doesn't live near an apple store, who is visually impaired and can't drive. Also someone who can't be without a phone. This was much better then expected.

Great customer service Apple! Also FedEx for picking it up the same day as the new one was dropped off. In addition I had just spoke with apple care last night, and i was expecting it by monday at the latest, and to have it the exact next day. That is great service.
