It's not. Auth and storage is independent from phone.
Yes, well that's obvious, but my question is why does it have to be? The Watch and iPhone are linked. Once you are wearing the Watch you don't have to do any other security measure (like a passcode or finger scan), so there's no reason the Watch can't take the information from Passbook on the iPhone.

The one thing that users really want to see, Apple omits from their website..

They show where Beat 1 and Apple music is what countries, but don't do this with Apple Pay, only the stores and app u can use them at, which is meaningless if Apple Pay is not available or coming. Not even an indication from Apple directly.

You think this could be "well we know, but we're not going to share this info." ? They can update on a "as is" by country basis and ones they know that will be coming, Why isn't the info available, where it matters to all ?

After adding to Passbook/Wallet on the iPhone it does ask you if you want to add the card to Apple Watch as well.

Well HSBC is no longer listed as 'supported' and we are being told end of July. So fingers crossed. Although it won't make much difference to me until September. Unless more retailers decide to remove the £20 limit though I can't see it is a great deal easier than a contactless debit card?

They do, at the very bottom in the small print: http://www.apple.com/uk/apple-pay/

  • Apple Pay is available in the US and the UK.

I'm wondering how much I'll use this. The tech seems really cool, but as a recent NFC debit card owner I'm not sure if I'd rather get out my easily-replaced debit card or my £700 mini computer. Apple Pay was one of the smaller reasons why I upgraded to an iPhone 6, though annoyingly my nearest supermarket (Tesco) doesn't support any kind of NFC!

Just found this on tfl site:

"Once you have added your card account details, you will be able to see your Apple Pay devices as separate 'card records' in your TfL account. You will also see your card if it has been used to travel on our services

  • Initially, your plastic card and iPhone and/or Apple watch will look like identical cards on their 'my cards' screen
  • You are advised to provide nicknames (eg 'my iPhone' or 'my Apple Watch') to be able to distinguish easily between the different devices"

Has anyone else seen these card records in their Oyster account. I'm wondering if I have to delete my card and add it again? Or perhaps they don't show up till I use them?

How do I activate my cards?
Wondering that too! I point the camera at my card but nothing happens, I assume there's an update coming that enables this?
edit: Ah! Ok! So on the Apple Pay app a new box appears at the top asking to add a credit or debit card. It literally just showed up for me, but it's not accepting my card yet so I think it's still rolling out.

The only thing it picks up with the camera is the long 16 digit code, everything else I have to enter manually (card is very worn lol).
Not true, it can pick up name and expiry date but lighting conditions must be good. Beware that data fields linger if you change cards so you can end up with the wrong date unless you really check!

I keep getting this :( Dev preview 3 on watch and phone

Anyone managed to get their card on their Apple Watch? Works fine on the phone and I was able to pay at Tesco but whenever I try to add the card to my watch I just get "Could Not Set Up Apple Pay - An error occurred while setting up Apple Pay"
dito

I just tried using apple pay in McDonald's. I was the first person there to try it, and I drew a little crowd of staff to watch. :)

It took a while to get it to pick my watch up, mainly because the person serving hadn't pressed a button so it wasn't expecting payment yet. Then I got a security check so had to revert to putting my card in (I wasn't sure whether this would still happen).

Overall not a great success, but everyone still seemed quite impressed by the whole thing. :)

I just did a Nationwide online application. It said an account will be opened in 5 days. Needed a better deal, this was a good excuse.

Just got an email too. They have clearly botched the launch. Why not just admit it was technical problems or something. This isn't something I would leave a bank for, it's just annoying.

I'm going in to town later on. Will see if the Metro supports it.
I would imagine the ticket machines will accept Apple pay via the NFC, but I doubt the barriers will accept it.
Nexus will take ages to implement anything like this.
We'll have new Metro's and new ticket barriers by the time it arrives.
