I love Apple Pay as well. I just wish it was available to use at more establishments that I frequent like gas stations, restaurants, etc.
You can use it wherever contactless payments are accepted. No need for it to be specifically ApplePay.

Just look for this sign… (or equivalent)

Just curious, does anyone here solely rely on Apple Pay, or carry a Debit & Credit card with them as backup?

Apple must be raking in the cash because they get a percentage of the processing fees. They see 10x potential if they increase usage

UK here.
Mostly I leave home with just my phone.

For my local shops and transit payments (buses etc) ApplePay is 100% adequate.
But cards still needed if I want to withdraw some cash to use at places like my local Barbershop.

Edit:
If we could get our Driver's Licenses into Wallet I'd be over the moon.

I don't feel confident enough to do that yet. For example, kroger, the largest grocery chain in the US does not accept apple pay, at least at the locations in my city

If you let other developers play with NFC on your device, that makes it much easier to compromise NFC transactions on your device. NFC belongs in the secure enclave.
NFC isnt even in the secure enclave.

Apple pay is. no one wants access to apple pay they want access to the HW..

FOr the record NFC is already accessible to NON PAYMENT APPS. like tag readers writers etc..... Apple specifically doesn't allow payment apps NFC access but give any other app access to it.

Theres some neat info for you.

I used it at the local gas station for the first time last week. It felt so strange... *shrug* I was still a little apprehensive...

EDIT: Why apprehensive? The gas station I was at had a skimmer device installed on their pumps and no one detected them. Is it possible to skim an Apple Pay transaction? I'm not convinced it's impossible...

You're going to bat for banks? They are the ones that are fighting for that because they don't like paying Apple a 0.15% fee. You do you, but I didn't expect to find big fans of banks here, they are typically rare on the internet in general.
I think you might just be feeding the pejorative anti-Apple trolls. Don’t waste your time on those who wish to protect our beloved banks and credit card companies, who would never charge us, the consumer, usurious fees such as the outrageous 0.15% Apple charges banks per transaction.

Kroger and the 2nd largest US supermarket chain, Walmart, both refuse to accept Apple Pay. In my area that eliminates Harris Teeter from personal consideration because Kroger purchased them several years ago, thus no Apple Pay there either.

Exact same dilemma as me, even having to whip out my phone every time is becoming cumbersome. Might have to invest in the watch lol. Barbers are so annoying, but understand why they do it tbh.

Apple Pay is so secure that even competitors wanting to implement their own touchless payments on the same phone aren't allowed.
THANK GOD.

I'm more than happy with perfect, flawless Apple Pay, both on my phone and watch, don't want to put up AT ALL with my banks' awful app, that doesn't even support the watch.

I also thought having my drivers license on my phone would be neat. Then I thought about how comfortable I would be handing my phone to a cop. Now I'm not so sure I would put it on.

You're going to bat for the largest corporation on the planet, who earns more profit than all the large banks combined? And there are lots of upstart competitors in the space that aren't the large banks.
Umm, Apple produces products that people buy. What do banks produce?

Exactly. I've actually had to explain to a store clerk once that they DID accept Apple Pay when she tried to stop me from dinging my iPhone against the tap thing. I told her that she had the sign saying she takes contactless payments (as above) and that means she takes Apple Pay. She had no idea.

I primarily use ApplePay wherever I can but continue to carry a couple of credit cards since several major retailers refuse tap-to-pay and thus ApplePay doesn't work. HomeDepot, Lowes, Walmart are the big three off the top of my head. Even today very few full service restaurants use mobile terminals and thus need a physical card.

I never carry (or use) a debit card though.

On a semi-related note, I've found that the Starbucks App no longer lets me reload my card using Apple Pay on my iPhone. I need to actually add my credit card to the app and reload it that way, even though Apple Pay is linked to the same credit card. I've Google'd the issue and there's some threads on it here and there, but no solutions.

Actually that was my first post in this thread. I was just making an observation that you are very vocal with your support of banks. Typically to go to bat for a person or company, you'd need to actually say something which I hadn't.

I haven't say anything about the banks so you must have me confused with another poster.

With the exception of in-flight purchases, I can’t think of a time in the past two years where I’ve been in an establishment that does NOT accept Apple Pay.
I am not that fancy. I am in Walmart or Kroger all the time.
