Wow. Offended much? Are you Danny?

Here's my issue to name a few about Wegmans. Continual products being moved around, the lines, the traffic, the astronomical prices (!), the huge factor, grumpy employees, etc. That's been my experience.

So, perhaps before you call someone's experience and opinion a crock, you should get to know their experience with said grocery store.

Apple Pay? Back on topic... My fault... I love seeing its potential. I like where it can go. Looking forward to the electronic wallet concept coming to life more.

Now now, I was trying to be jovial and a little sarcastic, while trying to be a little descriptive for people who don't have Wegmans in their area. I'm sure there are people who have problems with them. However, the fact that they are packed nearly every hour of every day, while their similarly large competitors are nearly empty year after year speaks volumes about them. They've been on the Forbes best places to work list for years. Clearly your experience is outside of the norm. For me, with a job that takes me all over the country and all over the world, I see up close how incredibly lucky we are to have such a store.

I wish we had Wegmans in the South. I have family in Ithaca, NY and Wegmans is an amazing store!

That's my store! My office is nearby so I'm there almost every day! :)

NFC in general still isn't going to be all that popular here. Well, not until some data breach happens where the company in question says something to the effect of "Our Apple Pay customers were not affected" ;)

Wow, a whopping 1% of a minuscule market. A better comparison would be to overall transactions. I honestly do not know a single person who has used Apple pay.

You know that $200,000,000,000+ goes through Paypal every year right? About 50 billion a quarter according to their own info.
So the "minuscule market" is about 350 billion Dollars.

Wow! Small world! :D

My family owns Early Bird Farm in Ithaca and I used to spend summers there as a kid!

I buy produce there every week in the summer! :)

I'll never use Apple pay. I like less reliance on a device, not more.

Using Applepay doesn't mean you can't still use other payment methods. But it does mean you might have an option to pay even if you don't have your wallet for some reason. That's flexibility, not reliance.

Unfortunately, Office Max was acquired by Office Depot early 2013. It was finalized Nov 2013. The consolidated company will be called Office Depot. There is hope though. The Office Max's that aren't shuttered will be renamed Office Depot and OD does honor Apple Pay.

Oh good. Hopefully my Office Max doesn't close.

Apple Pay is going to explode when it hits Europe.

In the UK I use my NFC-enabled debit card for everything under £15. That limit exists because the NFC cards do not have any further authentication other than possessing the card. Once Apple Pay's released, that limit will be removed.

NFC terminals are everywhere -- from the biggest chain stores to the guy who serves coffee out of his van at my work every day. Even our pubs support it (which is pretty dangerous -- exchanging money for booze so quickly with only your bank balance as a limit ;))

NFC's also much quicker to process than regular debit/credit chip-and-PIN transactions. Some retailers' chip-and-PIN terminals are speedier than others, but NFC's universally quick. At my newsagent, I've usually paid with one hand before the other's got hold of the carrier bag handles!

Anyway -- really really looking forward to it being in the UK. Hopefully, since I'm with Barclays and they already support Apple Pay with the US Barclaycard, it'll be one of the first here too.

Especially interesting given how much of a flap there was about CVS refusing Apple Pay. I wonder how many customers they sent to Walgreens to try out Apple Pay?

Many! The whole CVS thing blew up in their face. CVS does not publish their weekly revenues. However, I have been told there have been several resignations at CVS corporate over this halting of Apple Pay.

My take is that it will really take off when used to replace pass cards into mass transit and even entry into building security systems.

Whole Foods because it's the only place I've found to use it (and I suspect most other people too)

Not true. I live in Michigan. Hillers and Meijers, both supermarkets, except it. It also works at Nordtrom rack. It is also enabled in the Groupon app. It works at McDonald's as well. I have used it in all theses places.

There are a few places like Tim Hortins where it looks like it is going to work, but doesn't.

Well Whole Foods was one of the first adopters, and as far as I saw, one of the only stores where it was available at launch. But I get your point. I can't wait for the Apple Watch so I can buy ridiculously overpriced food using the ridiculously overpriced accessory to my ridiculously overpriced phone. Technology!

Interestingly, CVS has it now, but for some reason I have to physically tap the phone to their reader, whereas at Whole Foods I can just float it around the reader. Wish it were more uniformly implemented.

Frankly, almost the only place that takes it where i live is WF. The few times I have tried at CVS, it did not work. I will have to try again and see if they are now taking it.

I do hope this expands because it is really convinient and I will use it whenever possible.

Checks are a bit annoying and you can always spot possible check writers. Can't see a card being much slower then Apply pay. Still likely to have people fumbling with their phone.

I love that "Apply" Pay. How does that work?

Seriously, Apple Pay is quicker. I always know where my phone is. I just reach in my pocket, get it, hold it out, and put it back in my wallet. Done.

Using my credit card, requires me to find my wallet, pull my wallet out, look through my wallet and search for what slot I put my credit card in, pull the card out, use the card, put the card back in the wallet, close the wallet, and stick it back in my pocket. Some times there are extra steps, like looking through my wallet for my card, just to discover I left the card in my car the last time I got gas, so I have to go out to the card to search for the card, and come back in to the store.

Typing on a tablet that likes to *fix* my spelling. Or try.

I should have thought of something good for apply pay.

I think me grabbing my card is as fast as grabbing your phone. I could find everything with a blindfold on and I often have my card out before they ring everything up.

I use AP at Walgreens all the time. They now have a $50 limit on not requiring a signature. Over $50 you must sign the display.. I thought (hoped) the touch ID would over ride signature requirements.

I just wish more locations accepted AP. I would use it every where it's available.

Ive had it set up for two months on my iPhone but still haven't shopped at a single place where it was accepted. They need a lot more merchants to accept this... Namely the following:
- Market Basket (and other grocery chains)
...

I think we'll be waiting a long time for Market Basket to come on board. They're very traditional and trailing-edge. They still don't even have a web site.

And they're temporarily cash poor after the recent kerfluffle, so buying new terminals for 70-ish stores might be too costly.

I used Apple Pay at Walgreens yesterday and I still had to sign the signature pad. I thought that my fingerprint was more a verification than me scribbling a line on the signature pad.

I never had to sign before, could it be that I bought gift cards? Or maybe because it was over a certain dollar amount?

I thought with Apple Pay it eliminated all other steps in the payment process.

EDIT: someone else already answered this. Over $50 still requires a signature. I find this ridiculous when I was already verified with my fingerprint.

It's not that they're trailing edge so much as they are very selective about how they advertise. They don't do TV ads. They don't have a website (why bother? The customers savvy enough to use their website are also savvy enough to search Google Maps.) It's not because they don't know how to make a website - they have an employee website where you can set up payment and stuff.

I think they'll offer Apple Pay because customers will want it. Plus because of the liability switch that's coming in October. I used to work there as a cashier and I was told to always accept any card. I was told "it's the bank's problem, not ours, if we swipe it and it goes through. They should have denied it if it was stolen."

I agree. It defeats the purpose of the finger print. Especially since you can pretty much scribble anything you want on those things and it doesn't matter. If this system is suppose to be super secure, I should be able to buy everything from a burrito to a new Macbook Pro with Apple Pay and Apple Pay alone.

works great at staples. wish McDonald's would train there staff on how it works also if they had a reader mounted outside if the window it would make things much more simple fir now I avoid using it there

I really hope it works for any amount, I bought my current car using a chip & pin debit card (UK) although I had to go through a telephone security check, I'd really like to be able to buy my next car using nothing more than Apple Pay!

I LOVE Wegmans, but unfortunately live on the west coast now. SO much better than Whole Foods. And cheaper.

Have you tried Sprouts (formerly called Henry's)? Lot of them here in Cali, great store. They have a digital checkout payment pad... Has an Apple logo on it. Great store.

And actually you were much more accurately verified with the fingerprint since I doubt they compare the signature you enter with a signature on file or anything like that. And if they did compare it to something, you could copy the signature on the card if you were a thief anyway.
Actually I'm not sure what the signature part of the transaction is for.
