Most likely will use it when it comes to the U.K. Hopefully it's not gonna take too long like iTunes radio which we still haven't got

100000% Going to be using it, I may even set my God Forsaken Wallet that I have lost at least 3 times in the last 10 years on fire after my first transaction. Theres nothing more that i waited for then this and the next thing i look forward to is not having to deal with cashiers at grocery stores, department stores etc. We have the technology to replace them and not even have to take anything out of your cart, just walk through scanner and your down.

SMH. Those are people's jobs man. I try my best not to use vending machines or self checks. Midnight grocery shopping can make that impossible sometimes, but given the option, I pick the cashier.

I'll be using Apple pay pretty regularly I hope.

I'm looking forward to using it and for it to expand so that it is used in more places. In NYC, I really don't see many places that do the NFC payments (very possible that I just don't pay attn because it's not something avail to me yet). Contactless cards are kind of meh. If you have the card out already, I just swipe out of habit.

But I'm confused on the acceptance. Can Apple Pay be used anywhere contactless/Blink payments are accepted or is it only vendors who accept Apple Pay specifically when it's rolled out? Having this in cabs & subway would be GREAT but the TLC & MTA isn't really known for being early adopters of anything :/

I would totally use it if the places I shop at would accept it but I think it's quite likely none of the places I shop at will accept it, none of them even accept NFC payments of any kind to my knowledge.

I live in the UK also. Currently no banks here are signed up to Apple Pay either so I'm stuck with an NFC chip in an iPhone I can't even use for anything.

Could be another 12 months before my bank gets on the supported list, if ever and retailers will lag behind them.

I too was stung by the Target breach and I thankfully had to again change my check card since using at Home Depot during the timeframe of their issues. I'll be using this every chance I have (whenever my 6 Plus comes!).

someone used your info + made charges? i shop at target all the time, i use amex so i guess i don't worry ever, am i too un worried?

can not wait to use NFC payments! i just bought a nice wallet though, oh well! love the BLT's at subway!!

Apple Pay supports credit and debit cards from the three major payment networks, American Express, MasterCard and Visa, issued by the most popular banks including Bank of America, Capital One Bank, Chase, Citi and Wells Fargo, representing 83 percent of credit card purchase volume in the US. In addition to the 258 Apple retail stores in the US, some of the nation’s leading retailers that will support Apple Pay include Bloomingdale’s, Disney Store and Walt Disney World Resort, Duane Reade, Macy’s, McDonald’s, Sephora, Staples, Subway, Walgreens and Whole Foods Market. Apple Watch will also work at the over 220,000 merchant locations across the US that have contactless payment enabled. Apple Pay is also able to make purchases through apps in the App Store℠.

Apple Pay: Who's gonna use it? Lets get it going!

The funny thing is, retailers could've been using tokens all this time as well on their own. If they had stored those instead of the real numbers, the hack would've been a non-event.

Apple Pay is an NFC payment using the latest Mastercard/Visa/Amex tokenization setup.

Google Wallet has had card scanning for some time. And tokenization.

Google Wallet uses a proxy Google credit card, not tokenization.

So, am I correct in thinking that you can only use ApplePay if you use one of the banks listed on the website? I only have debit cards (not credit) and I don't use the banks listed. So I'm going to be out in the cold? (I was super excited about apple pay!)

Yes
Yes

I won't. I have no issues with swiping. Using my phone provides no advantage.

That is not correct.

Apple Pay will not transmit your card number for payment. Instead, it uses a one-time token that your issuing bank will approve. Therefore, if someone obtains the token either by sniffing the NFC connection (and yes, this has been done already) or by compromising the retailer (a'la Home Depot, Target, etc), they will not get your credit card info.

That in itself is a good reason to use Apple Pay. The convenience is secondary.

Of course, we haven't seen much on how this is all established and authenticated to know if Apple Pay itself is secure, but as an IT security professional, I am cautiously optimistic.

The other thing to keep in mind is that not all banks are supporting Apple Pay (yet?). So at launch, I will only be able to use my "work" credit card (Capital One), but not my "home" debit card (Regions). And, obviously, not all merchants support it yet. That is what Apple has to work on now, and I strongly suspect that peer pressure will compel others to join the party.

I, for one, know that I will be limiting the amount of business I give to merchants that do NOT support Apple Pay, since obviously few of them have any idea how to secure credit card numbers. Remember, for every breach you hear about, dozens more are ongoing and haven't been discovered or announced yet.

Meh. I did not realize that my credit union would be the hurdle for me on this one. How disappointing. Makes no difference that I have a visa logo on my debit card does it?

Apple Pay is one of the biggest factor in my upgrading to the 6. When the 5S came out, I thought that the Touch ID was an interesting gimmick but not much more than that if we couldn't use it to buy stuff. I'm definitely looking forward to trying it out.

Where are you going to keep your driver's license? Prescription card? Medical insurance card? Car insurance card? Cash? Real cards that will work when your phone dies? Frequent _______ card? etc.

I think :apple:Pay will have a place, but I don't see it replacing wallets at all unless all you own is a credit card and smile. :D

I know I'm excited to use this feature. I have seen a few of my friends get stung by credit card theft. So I can not wait to use it.

I will use it EVERY time at locations that accept it. I've been waiting for this for years. Bring on the future! :D

:apple:

Most stores in my town don't accept credit cards, counter checks or personal checks only. One store doesn't take cash, small town life...

I already find myself doing that when I see a Starbucks and Coffee Bean standing next to each other: Starbucks gets my business more often than not because all I need to do is wave my phone in front of the scanner thingie. No digging through my purse looking for my wallet since the phone is already in my hands.

Plus, they've got salted caramel mochas in at the moment.

It'll be stupidly limited over here.
I have to admit though, i do enjoy using my NFC enabled debit card. Reduces the whole process to about 1 second. More and more shops are starting to introduce contactless payment. The big players have had them for over a year, but now i've noticed local businesses introduce it.

Once it rolls out I'm going to ask every single time I check out until they support Apple Pay. If everyone else does this, then these stores might get the message sooner or later. Send feedback to companies that don't support it. Retail can be cut-throat with low margins, and for many customers there isn't much advantage in shopping in one store over another. I also think that Apple has put in place the means to expand this rapidly. For me, the added security and ease of use would make me prefer one retail outlet over another. Sure I might hit up another one if they have a good sale on a particular item, but with the increasing threat from hackers (I've had to order several new cards in the past year alone), Apple Pay is going to become a really amazing solution for a lot of people. I'm totally on board.

I think some of us tech geeks are underestimating how big this might be with normal people. My mom, who isn't technically saavy, called me up because she was suddenly thinking about buying an iPhone 6 (she has a 4S). Why? Because her bank emailed her telling her that they are going to support Apple Pay. Why would my mom care to adopt new technology so quickly? Because she had to replace her cards several times in the last year alone and is fed up with credit card hacking at all the places she shops (Target, Michaels, Home Depot, Sally's, etc). It's getting ridiculous and normal people are getting fed up and want a better solution. It's exciting to think that Apple may end up defeating credit card fraud.

Google Wallet has had card scanning for some time.

Yeah. I read that it was a new feature in two different articles. :) I'm starting to think that everything I read on the internet isn't necessarily true.

And tokenization.

I disagree with you here. Google Wallet supports tokenization of the transaction - the number transmitted to the terminal. Apple Pay also supports a token in place of storing the card number on the iPhone.

Despite what Apple says, technically it is not much different than Softcard (ISIS). It really provides no benefit over Softcard in terms of implementation.

That's a convenient, but unsupported claim. Without knowing all the implementation details for Apple Pay, the obvious differences are the fact that Apple doesn't store your credit card numbers and you don't have to open an app and supply a PIN before initiating a Apple Pay transaction.

I'm glad Apple is finally doing NFC payments but to say it is "magical" is comical.

You're the only one bringing up the word "magical" in this conversation.

I think it's about time that apple started with NFC, and that it will help out a good many people, but I still don't think that I'm gonna use it. I just dont see myself using it, ya know?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I bank at a smaller bank but my card has the Visa logo on it. Will any card with the Visa, MC or American Express logo on or is it based on your bank. If it is by bank then that is going to not be good for smaller local banks....

I remember using my 4S to get Starbucks for the first time when visiting NYC. It was so convenient, and that involved scanning a barcode. As Apple Pay rolls out a bit more, I'll start to use it a bit more. I eventually want to stop carrying a wallet and use a clip for my important cards and have my payment stuff in the phone, so I plan to use it regularly in due time.

Its the old chicken and egg issue, it won't get used until vendors sign up for it, and vendors won't sign up for it until it gets used.

There's already a few huge ones, Target being one of them. I think the only store Boston has more of than Dunkin' is Target, and I know they're on board.

Give it a year. Apple will boast about how many transactions per day go through Apple Pay, vendors will realize it is worth adopting, and we will be fine.
