I may give it a go if/when it is introduced in the UK, although I'm not sure how it's any easier than just using my existing contactless cards, from the demos it appeared that it would take longer to make a payment with my iPhone than it would just tapping my card on the reader as I do now.

If it means that more retailers will start allowing contactless payment (I'm looking at you in particular supermarkets) then I'm all for it.

It's really not a hard habit to break using your card or wallet. I've been using Google Wallet for the last year, and typically you go to the same places in your area multiple times, so now I already have a good idea what places support contactless payment and who doesn't. When I go to Cumberland Farms or Subway, I don't even bring my wallet, just my phone.

With NFC penetration in Europe we are familiar with Contactless payment in the UK; the transport sector & payments in the coffee shops . Most businesses are now revising their business models to accommodate the tech, hence Apple Pay will be an alternative method as long as Touch ID works at the point of sale.

Yup I will :apple:Pay for my purchase;)

My bank (USAA) will be supporting :apple: Pay.

I've always refrained from using my debit/atm card as I'm always afraid that my card will be compromised. A few years ago it was compromised and I was locked out of my money for a few days and I never want to go through that again.

But now with :apple: Pay, I will feel comfortable using my debit card in stores that accept NFC payments knowing that my card information is safer.

I'm also on USAA. Of course as soon as they announced support people began moaning that they were playing favorites because they didn't support any Android phones (which isn't correct because I've got my bank account connected to Google Wallet already).

I just got this back from my Credit Union:

Thank you for your message. The announcement of the Apple Wallet along with Apple Pay was made public on September 9th and since then we have been working diligently to learn all the details. We are currently reviewing the Apple Pay platform and what will be required by the Credit Union and our members to participate with this service. As it is very new technology, we have concerns with the security of the platform ? how do we ensure that Apple is truly securing your card data within their device. The launch of the iPhone6 and 6Plus devices along with iOS8 has not been smooth. Apple is still working to stabilize the platform. Additionally we know that Apple will charge fees to the card issuing financial institution for participation along with additional fees from Visa. We want to make sure we totally understand the financial ramifications of these fees and how we can protect the membership in a long term contract relationship.
Apple is scheduled to make the Apple Wallet available through an iOS update sometime mid - October but there will be limited locations that will accept Apple Pay as a payment option. Your credit union debit and credit cards will still work at these merchants ? you will not be prevented from accessing your accounts with SECU although you will not be able to pay with Apple Pay. We will continue our discussions with Apple and Visa until we believe our members best interest are protected. It is our goal to ensure you have access to your accounts and the ability to make payments through whatever channel you choose ? but we must ensure it is done securely! Stay tuned!

Sorry it is long

Is this North Carolina SECU? Because failure to support ApplePay would be just another reason I refuse to make this my main personal default checking account. I might have to send an e-mail to them.

I read a couple articles about Apple Pay and I'd be willing to give it a try.

I would not stop carrying a wallet though. What happens if the phone runs out of battery power?

I don't think that would be an issue but I have a million things in my wallet aside from cards-coupons, receipts, punch cards...I don't know that I could toss the wallet even if apple pay was useable at many stores

I see people are saying they are going to folio cases and ditching wallets. Am I the only one who carries cash around and aren't you afraid of your phone and folio wallet contents getting stolen all in one swoop?

This is a valid concern. I know a few people who have been robbed of iPhones, and it was almost always a "snatch and run" type attack. The thief would run like hell, but the person robbed at least still had their driver's license or cash for a cab fare home.

If they had been using a wallet/case combo, they would have been stuck with nothing.

I would never combine my iPhone case and wallet.

I plan to use Apple Pay when it is available, but your point is a good one. I guess you can carry one back up card. My issue is that I have so many cards that I carry now. I know Chase will support Apple Pay, but I don't know about the rest so I still may have to carry extra cards such as BestBuy, Nordstrom, Gap, Amex, etc.

Meh, I'll use it on occasion like Google Wallet.

However like Google Wallet I don't plan on not carrying my actual wallet.

Removing 1-2 sources of payment from my wallet doesn't actually benefit me much.

I still have a drivers ID, healthcare card, work ID, dental card, work vehicle maintenance card, bank ID card, work vehicle gas card, a card not supported by ApplePay, 2 casino player cards, cash, temporary receipt storage, etc.

Not like I can take the one credit card ApplePay supports out of my wallet and then just ditch the wallet.

Plus if the reader isn't working properly you'll look like a moron without an alternative payment method.

Biggest place I use a credit card is restaurants. Can't actually hand the waitress your phone for them to walk in the back to pay with. Nor would you want them to.

As far as I know Target will only be supported online. The readers have NFC, but they said they aren't doing it.

I'm hoping with more guest feedback they change their mind, so please tell them you want it.

I really don't go anywhere that supports it - but I am happy as the kids and I get Disney passes again it will work there. Traveling light in the parks is nice. Camera, phone and magic band!

Apple Pay: Who's gonna use it? Lets get it going!

Every store that accepts contactless payments will accept Apple Pay.

This is a point of confusion. At first I figured it was a "by card" situation. So I could use my Capital One card at any store supporting NFC payments. But any issuer that wasn't in Apple Pay I couldn't. However, Walmart and Target both said they will NOT support Apple Pay at their stores so it makes me worry that it isn't just a per card but a per card & per store agreement.

This could kill Apple Pay. How? Well think of the 90%ers of Apple users who are Lusers. They don't know the details they just think that if tap to pay is there it should work, and if it doesn't then they will be upset because it should "just work". Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE proponent of Apple Pay, I just see some major issues on the road ahead.

Apple and multiple banks are saying everywhere the sideways wifi symbol (aka NFC) will be accepted. Thats MANY stores. You can find this claim on apple.com as well as several banks, see attached.

Some large trashy retailers such as WalMart and BestBuy aren't supporting this industry standard intentionally... Because they gather your PAN for customer tracking by storing, tracking, running algorithms and selling such statistics to their partners.

Both of these stores are pushing MCX CurrentC, a loyalty/payment program that you tie your bank account directly to. They want your info and statistics, which ApplePay/VISA's EMVco tokenization buffers from them.

OR... The payment processor MCX who created CurrentC and who BestBuy/Walmart contract with, has them bound via contractual agreements.
Its odd BestBuy and Walmart would be selling something their customers cant use with them. As soon as those contracts expire, Walmart/Bestbuy may run to switch to a more reasonable payment processor like TSYS.

On Apple's website, it says over 220,000 stores will accept Apple Pay. That means that every store that accepts contactless payments will accept it. It has been confirmed by Apple and other retailers. Walmart and Best Buy do not accept contactless payments, at least in my area.

Edit - deleted my comment as per below

So I just did some quick research about this and it looks like a little while ago Bestbuy switched off the ability to use NFC payments despite having the machines to do so and it working in the past.

Besides the increase in screen size, Apple Pay is the main reason I'll be buying the 6.

For me, Apple Pay is the killer app that will get me to put my credit cards away.

The fact that I won't have to worry about a retailer I've used getting hacked is a huge deal for me.

Same reason for me here. There's been hacks at Walmart, Home Depot, Michael's Crafts, and Target. I won't have to worry about that anymore, which is fantastic.

Am I the only one who doesn't like signing a receipt at a place when getting to go where you have to fill in a tip? I carry some cash for that reason but if they have the apple pay deal id be happy

I've been looking for the Apple Pay update every day lol! Can't wait to use it as I shop regularly at both Whole Foods and Walgreens.

Just hope it works as advertised, I hate entering my PIN number, and only to find out a transaction was declined because of an incorrect PIN number or the card magnetic stip not scanning properly and having to hand over the card to the merchant for a manual entry.

Places like Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Target, Walgreens, Meijers, several gas stations, I'll use Apple Pay since I used it every day with my Nexus 5. Works perfectly and it always gets blank stares from the workers.

But Home Depot is a crock. It literally says "ISIS, Google Wallet, etc" with the tap to pay symbol, and you can even tap and it beeps, but the phone says "error" and the clerk has to clear your whole order and do everything again. It's like this at every home depot I've been to over the last 3 or 4 years... ever since I started using Google Wallet. I emailed HD corporate about it and they said "we have no plans to enable tap to pay at our stores, but stay tuned!"

Agreed. Had to dump my american express because of their stupid credit card breach. Pretty annoyed. If anything I'd assume they would be the first one to sign up for a more secure ways to pay and not get hacked. Have not shopped at home depot since the beach. I think I'm going to avoid them for a while.

When my bank supports it I will use it as much as possible. I just had to get a new debit card thanks to Home Depot, Apple pay can not get here soon enough.
