I don't see that being the case. It shouldn't have taken apple years to do it if they had it planned. Samsung and other companies released numerous watches so its not like they beat them by a couple months its been a couple years. If apple had anything like that planned that had to been in the Steve jobs Era. Hate to say it but Steve jobs god rest his soul was apple. He was the major brains behind everything the true legend in the game.
Look at the trend when Steve jobs was around apple was first with everything they had the best phones with the best specs and then moved to tablets before the others with all the newest features but When he died now apple is last to the table with there products and just playing catch up.

I use android now but I know Steve jobs was the king and if he was still around i would have an iPhone right now.

Thing is, I remember when it was rumored. Samsung had never even hinted at doing a smart watch until the Apple rumors.

I, too am on Android after the iPhone 5, but will be heading back because of the bigger screen options, swipe keyboard and the fingerprint scanner which is orders of magnitude better than swipe fingerprint scanners. Let's not forget that Steve had some stinkers as well (aka Lisa).

People have a funny way of twisting history. I remember people talking about the "iWatch" being in the works when the first Samsung watch came out. I also remember Android users throwing their unnecessarily inflated specs in my face while Steve Jobs was well and alive. Apple was never about being FIRST!!!11, it's about making good products.

Apple wasn't about being first after steve jobs passed away so they were last with alot of things. Yes its about making good products which they do but some people need to just face the facts apple has been outdone. Samsung has surpassed apple with its galaxy s series and galaxy note series. That doesn't mean don't buy an iPhone it just means that there's something superior out there. Back in the Steve jobs era android wasn't fully matured yet and that's where all the talk of android is laggy and buggy came about. People want to hold on to that forever and don't want to realize it has surpassed them old days and works just as great as iOS with a whole bunch more features.

"Hi Bridge?, Yeah I'm burning you, thanks."

Stupid decision. Especially now that PayPal is going to be spun off.
I disagree. PayPal is a horrendously expensive, awkward to use platform. I'm delighted at the prospect of it being entirely replaced by something as seamless as Apple Pay. If I didn't need PayPal for eBay, I'd never use it again.

My personal experience with Paypal over the years has been good and I use them frequently for client CC/direct Paypal payments and of course on eBay. I personally wish Apple and Paypal would have played well together. That said, if Apple can provide me the same service and (even better) ease of use and/or fees, so long Paypal, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

On another note, this really makes me wonder where Paypal is headed now that it is separating from eBay. While eBay has always had plenty of naysayers over the years — I've certainly had my shares of negative experiences as a seller and buyer — it will be interesting to see what Paypal can do with the eBay anchor pulling them down.

A whole bunch more features that no one can figure out how to use....or they are buggy. The S5 was an even bigger flop than the S4. Note...well no one has ever bought a Note en masse. The only noteable contribution Samsung brought to the table was bigger screens. What else have they added that everyone said wow I have to have that or else Im getting a Galaxy phone? In theory it can do a lot of things in practice none of them well enough for anyone to take notice.

It's going to be funny when ebay starts accepting Applepay payments for auctions next year after PayPal splits. Meanwhile PayPal will collect dust.

I can't speak for all the phones out there but from my personal experience with my iPhone 6 and playing around with a Galaxy S5, I didn't feel like the Samsung was superior to my iPhone in any way. Not with the camera, not general speed, not graphics, not in OS, not in selection of apps, not in Internet speed and definitely not in build quality.

Well I and a lot of other galaxy users know how to use there features quite well. And Samsung has sold the note in mass. The galaxy note 3 moved 5 million units in one month they just don't report it the same way they report apple news. The main point was not Samsung itself but android period has evolved beyond iOS. You can say Samsung has gimmicks which some of them are but you still have android underneath which can do every single thing iOS can do but more. So all the extras and extra specs are just added bonuses. Not saying iPhone isnt great also because it is.

Hardly seems like a negative. Paypal is literally the worst service I have ever used. Not only have they been hacked numerous times, a lot of banks around here won't deal with them, and I myself had serious issues with them a couple of years back that were only recently resolved when they finally admitted what they did and let it go.

Apple has had the top selling phone for the last 7 years. They have the top selling tablet. If anyone can make it happen, it's apple. And a Google tried with google Wallet and NFC and failed miserably.

This is exactly why NFC payments will never hit the ground in the US. I hate to say this but not everyone buys an iPhone so for Apple to attempt to "lock up" a technology, will kill it for everyone, including Apple. Come one google, work your magic and show em how it's done.

WOW! Could you make it more obvious that you're anti-apple! Samesung shill maybe? Check post history of this 'Macrumors Newbie'.

I'm not even mad. Apple is smart with spending, not like Samsung who shells tons of money into scanty tactics like hiring subcontractors to slander Apple products on Internet forums.

When there are no/little sales, your money will dry up quick.

Ive owned a Galaxy S3 and an HTC which I still think is superior to a Galaxy Phone any day of the week. Im wrong phablets sales are in fact higher...somewhere in the 50mm range.

I don't think people realize how big Apple really is or how big of a deal Apple Pay will be.

Active PayPal Accounts: 110M
Active Amazon Accounts: 152M
Active iTunes Accounts: 400M
source: http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-payments-paypal-amazon-400-million-accounts-2012-6

Let that sink in for a bit.

Apple is taking a 0.15% cut.

Not every one of those 400M iTunes has the iPhone required to access Apple Pay. I do not.
Next point, will the new iPad be able to access Apple Pay? I hope so, then more people can access it.

But if even half of them have it it is still worth it.

I for one am glad it fell apart. I have no love whatsoever with paypal. Stopped using eBay because of that cholesterol of a payment system.

I'm not anti apple. I've owned iPhone 3g, 4, 4s and the 5 before I switched. My daughter still has a iPad. Im just simply acknowledging that there is something just a little bit superior. As I have stated before apple is still good But since the great Steve jobs passed they are not on top anymore.

PayPal offers ZERO legal protections

PayPal offers ZERO of the legal protections afforded buyers using a credit card. All that PayPal guarantees is that a buyer's money went to the right place. Credit cards cover situations where a buyer is unsatisfied with a purchase of products or services. Buyers can refuse payment or ask their credit card company to reverse a transaction after the fact. PayPal offers none of those protections.

It appears that mega WallStreet player Carl Ichan is getting his wish to split PayPal from eBay. The number one reason that I have NEVER used eBay in my entire life is that they exclusively use PayPal as a payment platform. I refuse to do business with someone demanding direct and unconditional access to my bank account before I can purchase things.

PayPal is enjoyed by people who do not qualify for a credit card. For the life of me, I don't see why people think they are a good company. As numerous others have commented, PayPal is impossible to deal with. I tried to purchase something for my work from PayPal and they demanded my employer's banking information and refused to simply refused our business credit card for payment. PayPal insisted on unlimited and permanent access to our bank account.

Top in terms of what? Having the largest screen smartphones?

Apple improves their products every year which is what they are concerned about. DO they always have the best "spec"? Well, specs can be VERY misleading. They processor speed might not be the fastest, but that doesn't mean it's not as good. The thing that a lot of Android mfg do with the processors is over clocking and this is misleading and not as reliable. Also, Apple is in the last stages of transferring to 64 Bit ARM processors, the Android world they are WAY behind in this area. They can push 32 Bit processors faster to get better performance, but they are still only 32 Bit. What's more important is the type of cores they are using, in this area Apple is pushing 64 Bit vs 32 Bit, so Apple is in front of the Android platform. In terms of ease of use, Apple is still ahead of the others. In terms of integrating devices to work together, Apple is still ahead of Android. In terms of overall market share, Apple will never be the Number 1 in market share for the simple fact that they don't sell the ultra cheap products to go after the larger number of low end users, that's not of interest to Apple. In terms of the premium priced market, Apple is Number 1. That's the market they go after. Now, Apple has a very planned consistent method of releasing new products and OS's.

In terms of larger screen smartphones? Apple purposely decided not to release larger screen models sooner, the reasoning is that the available technology wasn't there to do a good job and instead of releasing a POS, they decided to wait and do it now. The other flip side is they simply couldn't build enough units so their production capacity limits what they can produce. It takes years to increase production capacities and they still have the number 1 selling single model smartphone. They are in the process of implementing robots that Foxconn is developing and they just implemented 10,000 robots, but they are working their second generation robots and going to implement 30,000 robots to increase production capacity.

But Apple still continues to build better Apple products each year and they do what they do. The problem people are complaining about with not having a large screen model hurt Apple sales, but they still sold plenty of iPhones despite not having large screen models.

Now, if you see these other large screen models with higher PPI, the problem is that you aren't going to tell the difference in a smartphone with higher PPI once you get to 326 PPI, plus no one is going to watch beyond 1080p on a freaking smartphone. People are not going to watch 4K video on a smartphone, so some of these companies that have higher res screens is kind of BS because it takes a LOT of GPU power to do it and there are really no apps that take advantage of the higher PPI and it's just a marketing ploy to act like it's better when it's kind of silly to have ultra high PPI on such a small screen. Your eyes can't tell the difference.

In certain areas that are important, Apple is still ahead of Android. They are ahead in security, ease of use, 64 Bit and usability between devices.

So, when you say they aren't Number 1, please clarify.

ApplePay is new and people that buy the new Apple products with ApplePay capabilities will take advantage of it, and moving forward more and more users of Apple products will have ApplePay capabilities. It takes time to get the install base of users to update whatever they are using to take advantage of something like ApplePay, but this is just the beginning. They are planning on selling about 190 iPhone 6/6+s within the next 12 months, so that's almost 200 Million new users that will be able to use ApplePay. Within 3 years, they'll have probably 500+ Million users with ApplePay capabilities once people upgrade their smartphones. I don't know why one would need ApplePay on a tablet, that's not that convenient to break out a tablet when you are grocery shopping, it more convenient to break out an iPhone or the new AppleWatch.

But since the great Steve jobs passed they are not on top anymore.

To avoid confusing discussions it might be good to state in what way you think Apple has disappeared from the top.:

-well built products?
-number of single product types sold?
-hardware innovation?
-software innovation?
-..

Without defining this you will only get fanboy responses..

Paypal is an absolutely terrible service and I couldn't be any more ecstatic they weren't involved Apple Pay

For a while there lacked a real alternative to them unfortunately. For anyone who isn't aware yet though, Square now offers the ability to send invoices and their "cash" app is absolute dream when it comes to tranferring between banks. I can finally delete my Paypal account! :D

Was hoping apple would have sealed a deal with Square, but I think the way it's playing out now is going to work just as great!

Yup, Apple is still at the top. Stability and reliability.
They do have software hiccups from time to time (e.g. iOS) but people need to remember that we're getting the software for free. They eventually fix the bugs.

And of all the laptops, netbooks, notebooks I've used over the years, MacBook has been the absolute best experience. The only improvement I could suggest is with stopping Safari from reloading web pages when you swipe back. :(

The entire Apple eco system is designed for the best user experience. Having an online Apple Store and also the App store and iTunes etc just makes everything so accessible. This also helps make them number one. Oh and not to mention the brick and mortar Apple Store's around the globe. I've never seen nor heard of a Samsung store nor a Windows store.

Thank you for saying that. Just a year ago people were mocking Samsung for rushing out a failing, half baked watch just so they can say that they came out with it before Apple did.

I remmeber getting torn to shreds by a colleague of mine who hates all things Apple in April 2013 when I mentioned the iWatch. He told me that he’d had a Sony smartwatch for years.

………….but people need to remember that we're getting the software for free.

There is no such thing as free. If you have to buy the hardware to do it you’ll find the cost has been rolled into it.

They eventually fix the bugs.
Not always.

Very well put indeed. There is lots of hardware and software out there that is just as good and even better/nicer than Apples in some cases. Just so happens that I prefer Apple.
Find it annoying that Apple are now so popular actually. They don’t feel exclusive anymore.
