As Paypal is now being spun out, Apple should buy them, barring any monopoly concerns.

That will be sweet. But I am not sure if Apple wants to be in the paypal kind of business. I like Google and ok with android but would never trust them money information and scared of security. I end up with a Windows PC at times and don't use it for going to any financial sites or do any online shopping. I would rather use my iPhone or Mac.

I agree. Apple tries to control everything and everyone. Its definitely childish for them to cancel there deal because of Samsung yet they get so many parts from Samsung for there iphones and iPads. Besides samsung has came firsr with alot of things that apple copies. Big phones, smartwatches and a lot more so i don't see why its such a big deal that Samsung got there first. Paypal is its own company and can do business with whom the feel like it. Apple needs to pull their panties up and stop worrying about other companies.

Have to disagree with you on the smart watch comment. There were hints that Apple was working on a smart watch years ago. It was only after those hints that Samsung and others rushed out smart watches in order to claim first.

Google doesn't have the reach. The system is too fragmented with only a small percentage of android handsets having NFC capability. What Apple is doing right in this situation is backing it full on with payment partnerships and all new phones and tablets (likely) supporting it. In two years the absolute majority of Apple users will have NFC, which is a much much larger group than all users with Android NFC phones combined. That is why it will be successful.

You must be joking right. Apple iPhone is a single phone. Its one of the highest selling phones for a single phone but android is on different phones from different manufacturers. Even apple iPhone can not even come close to the sales of android phones as a whole and most android phones even the budget ones have NFC. So nope your statement is wrong.

Thats good that this happened.

Apple should open their own payment system to challenge Paypall

But Apple Pay will only be ubiquitous when it includes more than iPhones.
Apple Pay is good for Android and iPhone users because the hardware that is required will also work with Google Wallet.

Google Wallet works and has worked for a while.
The stumbling block for Google Wallet was AT&T and Verizon with their ISIS crap. Befitting that a terrorist group would have the same name.

Apple can use the secure element on the iPhone because the carriers don't get to touch iOS. They adulterate Android OS with bloatware.

for the few of you that still think paypal is ok you'll only think that til they burn you and then you'll remember the overwhelming majority here who warned you about the truly criminal enterprise that is paypal.

I have used Paypal for years and years since I buy quite a few things from Ebay. I collect... things, and Ebay is the number one market place for those things.

Never had any issues with Paypal, but then again I do not have huge amounts of money on my account there.

I don't see that being the case. It shouldn't have taken apple years to do it if they had it planned. Samsung and other companies released numerous watches so its not like they beat them by a couple months its been a couple years. If apple had anything like that planned that had to been in the Steve jobs Era. Hate to say it but Steve jobs god rest his soul was apple. He was the major brains behind everything the true legend in the game.
Look at the trend when Steve jobs was around apple was first with everything they had the best phones with the best specs and then moved to tablets before the others with all the newest features but When he died now apple is last to the table with there products and just playing catch up.

I use android now but I know Steve jobs was the king and if he was still around i would have an iPhone right now.

Are you thinking that Apple will somehow have the "cheaper" fees? Apple WILL charge just like any other payment system. If you run a retail location and decide to take Apple Pay, you will pay a hefty premium.

Have you been in an Apple Store? Have you compared prices with Apple products and similar category products? Apple is very expensive. For the record, IMO their products are worth it.

The banks pay Apple whatever fees Apple charges them. I thought this was known information by now. Banks get the added security they need as a result.

Thank you for saying that. Just a year ago people were mocking Samsung for rushing out a failing, half baked watch just so they can say that they came out with it before Apple did.

When the good cop turns bad

The best part? How Tim Cook has assumed the same "don't tread on Apple" swagger of his former boss. Sometimes fear is the only thing at keeps the market and partners in line. I think the popular perception was that because he was always more soft spoken than Steve Jobs that he was the "good cop" to Job's bad. Sure he was a tough negotiator, and a supply chain whiz, but not prone to big, public disses like this. Maybe that was always wrong, or maybe he's shifted gears since SJ's death, but either way it's reassuring to see the man at the helm of the platform I've bet on, and invested so heavily in over the years, show that he's playing hardball to keep the Apple ecosystem on top.

You gotta break some eggs to make an omelette, and PayPal is officially busted. I will be deleting my account as soon as I have Apple Pay up and running.

OMG its about time someone stood up to PayPal. I absolutely HATE that payment system, or whatever they call it.

Anyway, haven't used them in years because I don't appreciate them holding my money interest free for weeks while they wait for a sh*tbag buyer to leave a positive comment. Thanks but no thanks PayPal...

Steve Jobs was the king and that's why Apple was beaten by MSFT in the 80s under his watch and why Apple failed to release an Apple Watch before he died and MobileMe, FireWire etc were HUGE flops. Quit giving the man more credit than he is due. It's not fair to the employees of Apple and everyone else who made his accomplishments at all possible.

Samsung released a half baked watch that flopped. You don't get credit for releasing to market unfinished products just for the sake of doing it first. It's better to come to market with complete solutions. The Samsung watch didn't do that. They weren't able to justify why people should want one. Additionally it does not look good. Apple was smart to get some input and buy-in from the fashion world and have a watch that does significantly more than other watches right now while also being stylish.

People have a funny way of twisting history. I remember people talking about the "iWatch" being in the works when the first Samsung watch came out. I also remember Android users throwing their unnecessarily inflated specs in my face while Steve Jobs was well and alive. Apple was never about being FIRST!!!11, it's about making good products.

I use PayPal mostly for eBay. Now that they will decouple it's quite possible Apple Pay might be sitting beside me in the cafeteria exclusively.

It may be just me, but I actually like that Apple can still show some old competitive Steve-Jobsian ANGER. I'm glad that even in the kindler, gentler Cook era Apple can still get angry. I'm glad that there are still consequences to crossing Apple. I'm glad that Apple is still willing to be somewhat petty and pull deals just to punish those that deal with their competitors. It's good. It's competitive.

With all the Apple leaks and PR snafus and general niceness lately, maybe this will restore a little much-needed FEAR in those dealing with Apple. Because that fear sprinkled throughout the Apple ecosystem has always greased the wheels of Apple having the leverage, autonomy, and secrecy to deliver greatness to us. Steve knew that.

110% absolutely agreed.

Every rumors site has been reporting on it almost since the first iPad came out.

Samsung copied something that doesn't even exist. Man they are good. :apple:

If you wouldve been frequenting the apple sites before 2012 you wouldve known that.

One just needs to use the search feature and search for the news report that apple was in talks with paypal on a potential JV or something. Almost every post there was negative.. :)

Paypal really dropped the ball on this one. If you want a service to really take off you have to forecast adoption rate. Apple really does its research. The 5S clearly showed apple how likely consumers were going to use touchid to pay for its itunes purchases, look closely - making payment not just for unlocking the phone. Every android phone manufacturer is putting fingerprint sensor for the sake of the game "oh look, we have fingerprint sensor too not just you" but it is only good for unlocking.

You can quickly unlock the HTC One max and open apps using your fingerprint. You can add up to three fingerprints to use for unlocking the phone and launching apps.

As much as i hate Paypal but if any company wants to sell a service to the masses no matter how terrible the service is, to ride on the backs of Apple is the way forward. eventually all the android manufacturers will work with Paypal but each manufacturer will be working independently and good luck to Paypal if they hope for their payment services to work seamlessly across all android phones. Integration, security and encryption will definitely vary across the android phone manufacturers. Are you confident these Asian manufacturers will do a great job?

If Paypal had went to Google then it would have made more sense but to go to Samsung? If anyone has Paypal shares you should really go short. Their payment service is not going to take off with Samsung or any android phone. If you recall one of Android users' pet peeve is iTunes. It is like they are some middle aged computer illiterates going for computer class for the first time. They can only handle something as simple as insert flash drive, copy, paste, eject. This is old school and they will continue using their plastic credit cards. I am talking about the masses here, only probably 1 in 10 or 20 is a xda member who tweaks and hack his phone but the rest are just the average consumer who uses it right out of the box so lets not get started about how much a tech wiz android users are. The majority are just helpless.

If Paypal had went to Google then it would have made more sense but to go to Samsung?

Thats what I said earlier but that point I made was lost on everyone. Its like a fraction of the Android userbase. It wouldve made sense with Google. The way PayPal handled this should get the CEO fired.

Your talking about in the 80s and i didn't say he was king of everything. In the computer world Microsoft was of course bigger but in the mobile world when iPhone came out it ruled the mobile game and so did the iPad so yeah in that regards Steve jobs was king. Yes of course he needed his good employees to help bring it to reality but the point is it was under Steve jobs guidance.

As for the Samsung watch you can make an argument that maybe there first watch was not at all great but now fast forward and we have apple watch which is no better than what Samsung and other watch makers already have so what did all the extra time do for them?
You seriously can't believe your statement about apple watch doing more than others cause that would be very far from the truth I can link you to many article preview that state the same thing.
