PayPal is awful, but a bit of a necessary evil right now. Hopefully Apple pay will gain some territory over PP.
I didn't think the Samsung fingerprint scanner was functional enough to be able to use it like that.

Apple and Samsung, the two most butt-hurt companies ive ever seen. And for those who think I am dissing on Apple, well I own a Mac and I own a Dell. I own an iPhone and a Nexus phone. I own an iPod and an iPad. So I have my fair share of Apple Products. It's nice living in both worlds.

Best of luck with Samsung users, PayPal! Just a heads up: they don't like to spend much.

I have my PayPal accounts (both personal and business) linked to my respective bank accounts. Makes online payments so easy (and cheap - free!). If Apple Pay brings this same convenience to the broader market place, then I'll be very happy.

My own concern is Apple's slow progress in bringing their services to non-U.S. markets. For example, I'm still waiting on iTunes Radio here in Canada... a year later. Will I need to wait a year or more for Apple Pay to be fully supported in Canada? I hope they are very aggressive with this, but I know they have a lot of licensing and logistical hoops to jump through.

This is exactly why NFC payments will never hit the ground in the US. I hate to say this but not everyone buys an iPhone so for Apple to attempt to "lock up" a technology, will kill it for everyone, including Apple. Come one google, work your magic and show em how it's done.
Hahaha!!!! You mean the Google Wallet Magic that has been out for 2 years and flopped?

Venmo is so much easier and better than paypal. And I get my funds faster as well without the clutter and the forced ads for me to sign up for paypal credit cards.

Paypal is far from being the king of payment processing. They are the king of eBay's payments, because it's the only payment you can use. People actively dislike paypal, more than any other method of payment known. I've set up websites with Paypal, only to have the owner request an additional payment solution because Paypal is objectionable to a large percentage of their user base.

If it wasn't the only way of paying on eBay PayPal would die. Good riddance to them.

Paypal does 1/6th of all online eCommerce... As of 3/18/2014
PayPal Statistics
Total amount of PayPal payments made everyday $315.3 million
Total percentage of Ecommerce that is represented by PayPal 18%
Annual amount of payments made by PayPal mobile phone users $1 billion
Percent of PayPal payments that are used for travel 87%
Number of internet sites that use PayPal 341,497
Annual amount you must receive before PayPal reports to IRS $2,000 +
Total percentage of PayPal customers who say they recommend the service 86%
Number of active PayPal accounts 106 million
Number of currencies used by PayPal 25 currencies
Number of markets that PayPal is involved in 190
Total revenue made by PayPal in 2010 $3.4 billion
Total amount of payments processed by PayPal in 2010 $56 billion

Case closed...

Apple's loss not PayPal's. I us PP for all my CC transaction and card swiping and invoicing and it just works.

I think apple is bipolar. If they hate Samsung so much why do they still get parts from them. This is pretty childish.

It seems like they double rape you. You get hit with Ebay fees and Paypal fees and its the same company.

OMG, THANK YOU for seeing that! My wife does a lot of ebay, since the early days when it was actually a nice thing.

You are absolutely right they double **** you!

I hope Apple Pay forces some change with PayPal tactics and ebay for that matter!:apple::cool:

There is little similarity with apple pay and why streaming music licensing which has plagued most of the players in the market. Barring government regulations, the main stakeholders are the big banks and they have essentially been favorable to standerization.

From what i understand, Apple has adopted a standard, and the reason for doing it is because .. well its a standard (NFC). CVS for example will be able to handle both google wallet and Apple pay using the same NFC technology (iirc). There is nothing fundamentally different in Apple pay which restricts standardization of digital payments. There is nothing that google can do differently then what it is doing with Google wallet. Both will most likely work with most vendors but the adoption of a technology has as much to do with its simplicity and the way it is presented to the customer then its widespread acceptance at the vendor level. Here many believe that apple pay has a better chance of taking off compared to google wallet..Time will tell if that is the case.

Ha I know right... I sold something for 750 on ebay and I really only made like 625 after all the freaking fees they charge...!

Yeah, ebay fees are rapacious at this point. I used to sell high volume on ebay, but the fees forced me out. They would have made more off me if they had kept the same sliding fee schedule in which fees were far lower on high priced items.

10% on $4000 Mac Pro sale. That was the last time I gave ebay any money. Greedy SOBs is what they are.

Everyone fighting for our dollars. Our dollars. How do consumers benefit - we just pay more. :(

I LOATH paypal and their stupid fees...someone wants to send me $500...and there is a $15 fee...who should pay that fee? The sender or the recipient?

Guess again...I only got $485...thanks payapal.

friggin idiots

I will go to any lengths to not use paypal.

apple pay will be just right for me

LOL, its a merchant transaction fee. EVERY CC processor take a cut. ALL OF THEM! :)

Again, I am not here to defend Paypal but seriously, some of these comments are ridiculous.

I've used PayPal for years without any problems. They even help me get my money back from a vendor who took more money from my account than what they were supposed to take. Quick phone call to PayPal fixed it.

Afaik paypal isn't popular in the US but the number one online payment service in Europe since they rarely use credit cards. I too use it as a seller and as a customer. It's instant, easy and not expensive. I wonder why people dislike it...

If you've ever sold anything through eBay, you know that both eBay and PayPal are absolute pirates in terms of fees.

They have a lock on customers using the platform and take full advantage of that fact.

Inking a deal with Samsung while in negotiations with Apple is not a smart way to do business, which is hardly surprising for them.

Ever buy something with a smart device using the internet? It's an absolute chore - shipping addresses and credit cards, or email addresses and the rest with Paypal.

We need a better system and Apple is about to provide it.

Typical paypal.

If you can do something stupid and make a costly mess out of something for a lot of people, why hesitate?

Good riddance, Apple. There needs to be some alternative to Paypal anyway. Build something better from the ground up.

There is nothing necessary about PayPal, there are many competitors that work quite well:
Amazon Payments
Google Wallet
SquareUp (Square Cash can allow you to completely avoid any fees as well)
Intuit
WePay
Skrill
Dwalla
Payza

And I have only listed some of the major players in the field that all have the same or lower fees than Paypal offers as well as substantially better customer service.

Bottom line is I won't do business with any company that only accepts Paypal. Their customer service is the worst I have ever seen from any company and believe me that's saying something.

I think apple is bipolar. If they hate Samsung so much why do they still get parts from them. This is pretty childish.
Why should they work with a company that goes behind their back to a competitor trying to upstage what they are rumored to be doing, while they are having secret negotiations concerning an unreleased product.

Are you thinking that Apple will somehow have the "cheaper" fees? Apple WILL charge just like any other payment system. If you run a retail location and decide to take Apple Pay, you will pay a hefty premium.

Have you been in an Apple Store? Have you compared prices with Apple products and similar category products? Apple is very expensive. For the record, IMO their products are worth it.
