"Good to see public outcry influences Apple."

You don't know if that's true. You are making an assumption (probably incorrect) and spouting it as the gospel.
This kind on nonsense is what drives intelligent people away from here and leaves those who love to play games and be childish!

Well stated. I'm dying from laughing that some here, especially those who don't even own an iPad Pro with Pencil, believe that they have enormous power, and Apple is listening to them carefully on MR, oblivious to their games. They clearly do not understand how Apple works.

Lots of babies crying like crazy in the forums yesterday when it was reported (incorrectly) that it wouldn't return. Smart folks knew it would return but that didn't stop plenty from cursing Apple and going on and on about how "STEVE JOBS WOULDN'T HAVE DONE THIS!"

I'm really really really happy that your GUESS was correct!! =)
However.... absolutely none of us "knew" that it was coming back.
We could've hoped... we could've intuited... we could've wished or prayed.
What we could NOT have done is "known". You see, that's because we don't work at Apple & all we have to go on is rumors... and the rumor was (supposedly confirmed to tech Podcaster, Myke Hurley, from an Apple employee) that it indeed WAS purposefully left out.
So your super pompous comment that "smart folks" knew it was coming back completely misses the mark. It is both insulting AND an outright lie.
Plenty of intelligent people heard that rumor and came to a logical conclusion that it was true. We are glad it was not! It sucks that Apple employee is lying to podcasters or whatever, however it does not make anyone stupid or cast dispersion on their intellect whatsoever if they believed that rumor. (thank you very much)

I was commenting on the reaction here on MR not the poorly speculated article it referenced. But good job missing the point there.

You were not. You said, "Lots of babies crying like crazy in the forums yesterday when it was reported (incorrectly) that it wouldn't return." But Ren's reporting was completely accurate. Fail.

So everyone that was defending Apple and said they were making to correct choice in removing the functionality: will you now criticize Apple? Or are they now just making a more correct choice ?

Haha awesome point, I'd like to see their response to this.

Yes! Thank you everyone for submitting feedback. Glad Apple gave us an answer. Thanks Apple!

Lolol. Where are those who were defending the decision to remove it, stating that "the pencil was never meant to be a UI navigation tool"?

I'm really sad that Apple are reverting their 9.3 decision to stop the Pencil from being able to do navigation. To truly use the Pencil to its full capacity, it must be allowed to be its own input device, and not an emulation of a very thin finger.

If you look at the Microsoft Courier demo videos, you can see some excellent examples of this concept in practice. For example, the woman in the video uses a book metaphor to scroll between pages. Just like a real book, she uses her finger to turn pages, and then uses the pen to write and draw in the book. She can't use the pen to do both navigation and drawing, because then she wouldn't be able to draw horizontal lines! Other use cases would be to select and manipulate existing drawings using your fingers, and drawing with the pen. If the pen and finger were treated as one, you would have to use modes (such as long press or different tools) to distinguish these interactions.

This is a summary of a rant of mine on Twitter. Some good reactions:

So, yeah. Maybe it could be an accessibility option to treat the pen as a finger, but to allow application developers to really explore the pen as a separate thing from a finger, it should not be the default, and thus the pen should not navigate.

Funny. Yeah, reading all the whingeing last night, it occurred to me that they were probably working on how to best integrate navigation in a deliberate way (rather than simply as an accident of the pencil being finger-like). And since they would likely be breaking stuff while doing that, it made more sense to just remove it until it worked the way they wanted. The sky wasn't falling. It was just... well... a beta!

That makes a lot of sense. It's really precious watching people getting the shakes big-time trying so hard to catch Apple in a gotcha moment. It's like that's what their life is all about.

Once in awhile they should try hard and walk away from their keyboard and big bag of Cheetos, head up the stairs out of their grandma's basement, and go outside to get some sunshine.

I have to say I'm glad to hear this, my plan to buy an iPad Pro was not certain due to the reports - now I'm back to my solid stance of "Air 3 with pencil support or an iPad Pro" :)

Ok, I take back what I said yesterday, lol. I'll definitely pick up an Apple Pencil the next time I upgrade my iPad if they offer support for it in future 9.7" models … The large size is fantastic to behold and it's very tempting—especially when you see a movie or website on one—but it's just not very practical in day-to-day use.

I'm really enjoying mine. I've been using iOS on iPad or phone almost exclusively for about four years now. The bigger form factor of the Pro makes the split-screen multitasking practical, and it makes using it with external keyboard practical. The 9.7" iPad was too small for me to use with a keyboard. At the same time, I can still use the Pro to read in bed or wherever.

The extra RAM + fast processor means apps are almost always ready to go when I switch to them. It works even better than I expected.

Ha ha ha the last month has been tough for some of our users, soon as a story breaks like the error 53 or this one , individual jump on board with the decison and 100% support why it's the right one, why the rest of the people are wrong, and a few days later, apple changes thier mind saying it was not intentional. Funny stuff, really amusing stuff.

Bring on the next certain drama..... :) getting more popcorn.
