It never exited in the sense you’re pretending it did. It’s just that in the past if you said something horrible and unpopular you had your teeth knocked out.

Well, that and that this is free speech in action. In the past, a newspaper could easily ban someone from writing an op-Ed. They are allowed to pick and choose what they publish. Apple, here, is acting no differently. They are now banning Jones from using their platform to promote his beliefs(well, really just to monetize him since it’s allegedly all an act).

Zero difference.

It’s just that the right wing outrage machine doesn’t grasp what free speech means at this point. Odd since most of them claim to have 45 pocket Constitutions on them at all times.

I enjoyed listening to him advise his listeners to arm themselves and prepare to start killing liberals in the coming civil war that will be all those very same liberals fault for being gay satanists.

Look how intolerant Apple is being. Government should step in and intervene in private companies who dare to deny individuals use of their services. That's the conservative way.

Seems like these days, the only time you'll find a leftist supporting capitalism is when it's being used to ban something they don't like.

There are plenty of center-left capitalists such as myself. I’d say that most of us are primarily in favor of capitalism yet also embrace some regulation (there are very few, if any, economically libertarian left wing folks). Heck, I support the Kavanaugh nomination as well.

Surely you agree then that Maxine Waters’ calls to harass Trump supporters aren’t public opinion and should be silenced too?

Complain to Apple about Maxine’s app.

Yeah, because i never hear form conservative voices... not ever... /sarcasm
Please don’t pretend conservative voices have nearly the mainstream reach as liberal ones. It’s not even comparable. Can you find conservative news and media? Of course you can. That doesn’t mean it’s equally available to hear those points of view. Maybe it shouldn’t be though. I think the Alex jones was a horrible person and have absolutely no problem with his ban. Good riddance I say. However, if this continues to keep happening to more reasonable conservative voices I think we will have to see how society as a whole reacts to decide if it’s what the people truly want. I think overall this is mostly just hot air. Nothing to see here. A loud mouthed jackass is being silenced. Conservatives should be the happiest of all about this. He makes them look insane.

I haven’t seen many cons all that upset by this. Just the pearl clutchers and gas lighters.

Granted, that’s a large chunk of cons right now.

I’m no fan of Alex Jones but the fact that the new censorship is coming from corporations rather than government means that there is no recourse for citizens. The answer to bad speech is not censorship, the answer to bad speech is more speech.

There is plenty of recourse. Fund or create a platform that is open to Infowars. Stop being lazy and relying on others to do that work for you. Doesn’t the right still promote bootstraps or something? Or is hard work only for those who don’t agree with you?

It’s almost like he/they have a website or something, too.

Yeah right! So the US is more civilised than Europe, Australia and Canada? Places where hate speech is against the law, places that have universal health care, places with sensible gun control, universal unemployment benefits, and are still signatories to the Paris agreement.
Sounds pretty civilised to me.

These places you just mentioned are experiencing societal breakdowns. Europe and Australia are trying to figure out what to do with the influx of immigrants; meanwhile, said immigrants are pestering the citizens of those lands and destroying the places they inhabit.
What is defined as “hate speech” is a one way road in the US. When one man insists on something without evidence, he is banned from twitter, fb, yt, and now Apple as it’s deemed “hate speech.”
Yet, msm can make false statements, also without evidence, but it’s regarded as “news.”
Universal healthcare is not a right nor should it be considered an issue for government to deal with.
Gun control - hold with both hands and don’t place your finger on the trigger until you’re ready to fire.
Unemployment - also not an issue for government to deal with. Shouldn’t be, anyway.
Paris accord? Have you read what this entails? It’s WORTHLESS! When President Trump backed out of this, the PEOPLE of the US vowed to take measures necessary to cut their “carbon footprint,” and this alone did more than the PA EVER would have accomplished. The PA was just another method of forcing nations to pay up.

Lol.

Insane, violent Liberals? This is a joke right? Or is it evidence for moderates that speaks to how far from reality people can take themselves, with encouragement. This post reminds me of 1935 in Germany.

This post reminds me of one disconnected from society. The only people being violent and destructive these days are liberals. Even mad maxine has incited violence against Republicans!
And OH the irony of liberals comparing everyone else to nazi Germany........

‍♂️

Lol.

Haven’t read this yet - but will.
BUT, NPR? I’d be “darned” surprised if they actually agree that this is such.
That’s like Snopes doing an article on whether snopes is accurate or not...........

Update - read it and it’s as I suspected. And worse. Not only manipulating information to counter the argument that leftism is becoming more violent, but suggesting right is actually more violent.
Fact is, most shootings/murders by gun have been committed by people with either anti-right or far-left views. The article chooses to only look at statistics for “domestic-extremism” cases. Which, if you’re familiar with how this is categorized, then you know that info is skewed from the start.
Furthermore, the article blatantly groups anyone “not left leaning” with “neo-nazism.”
Like I said above - snopes verifying whether snopes is legit or not. You think you’d get an accurate answer???

Shame. Free speech is dead.

No, anyone is free to run whatever speech their want on their website. No business or platform entitles others to tarnish the host reputation. If you prefer to have radical ideas then have your own website, if it has such a great support base then why depends on other platforms such as Twitter, Insta, Apple, Google, Facebook, etc.

Advertising can occur via word of mouth, radio ads, news articles, etc. Granted you have to pay for it, however you are paying to have your app on Apples AppStore. I hope every app stores his apps is on provides a pro-rated refund. No hard feelings it just did not work out.

I am not taking sides, however just watching that video during the interaction with a Senator came across as rude and harassing, touching without permission could be viewed as assault. When someone is being interviewed and you are on the sidelines, keep silent and wait for your turn. This is what civilized means. Calling grieving parents or the children lost as actors or nonexistent is just low and hateful, no one would welcome such treatment from another during a sad and emotionally troubling event. Cannot claim fake news when you do not fact check your own message, that makes you a hypocrite.

From the article itself, if you actually read it beyond the headline:

But those who track extremism say that while there are a few far-left groups that raise red flags, their numbers remain small.

And, say experts, it's misleading for right-wing groups to suggest that the Antifa are more violent than right-wing extremists.

"The far left is very active in the United States, but it hasn't been particularly violent for some time," says Mark Pitcavage, a senior research fellow at the Anti-Defamation League's Center on Extremism.

He says the numbers between the groups don't compare.

"In the past 10 years when you look at murders committed by domestic extremists in the United States of all types, right-wing extremists are responsible for about 74 percent of those murders," Pitcavage says.

I disagree that it’s a large chunk. It’s just the noisiest chunk. The vast majority of conservatives are just staying quiet because they are getting what they want for the most part. Lower taxes, less regulation, and most importantly two new Supreme Court seats.

You have a constitutional right to free speech.

You do not have a constitutional right to an app on the App Store any more than you have a right to sell your unwanted crap on the shelves in Wal Mart.

You aren’t wrong but don’t pretend that if the big tech companies team up and all block someone that persons voice is all but completely silenced. Take them off 95% of the airwaves and they can’t sustain a business. That’s the play here and in this case I can’t say I’m upset but I’ll be watching these companies closely to see who’s next. It won’t stop here.

Not a fan of this guy, his platform or his believes at all but I don’t think Apple should decide what’s right or wrong.

This is it exactly. You don't have to download his apps if you disagree. Apple's action is nothing more than a slap in the face of alternative viewpoints and is distinctly un-American (that is if you believe that being American stands for freedom of speech and equality for all.)

To all of you who think this is right, what happens when the meaning of political correctness change and you are on the wrong side. Will it be ok then? No, it won't. But once freedom of speech is gone, its gone forever, or until a bloody civil war emerges.

Freedom of speech means he has the right so say almost whatever, it does not mean anyone has to be forced to listen. Whack jobs like this have been standing on soapboxes on Main Street corners since our founding. This action is the same as forced gagging and its not appropriate no matter whether you agree with him or not.

Its time to make the App Store a utility and regulate it accordingly so that they have to abide by the constitution, at least in the US. Every other government seems to be able to make Apple behave according to their whims.
