Apple Input Devices ..... meh

The first thing I do when I get a new Mac ... is sell the enclosed "input" device and replace it with a two-button/scroll wheel equipped Logitech wireless mouse with a NANO Receiver ...

Apple sure does try hard ... but each new "input" device they dream up seems to be a step backward ... it is getting comical at this point.

I know I will get shot down for saying that, but I've always preferred Microsoft's mice over logitech's. At least the ones, I've used.

Before the Magic Mouse, I used a MS Wireless Laser 8000, which worked very well (using SteerMouse). Before that, on my previous computer (windows), I had my venerable IntelliMouse Explorer 2. I received it as a gift in 1999-ish and it still works and in my drawer in case my batteries run out.

How the heck are you supposed to play games with a Magic Mouse?

I get my friend on his Mac to play CounterStrike with me sometimes, its hilarious to see him running past, changing weapon 30 times a second because his skin brushed the mouse.

I don't understand these comments. I can do just as well in Creative Suite with a Magic Trackpad as with a mouse. The mouse is not the end-all be-all for design accuracy. That would be a Wacom-type tablet and stylus.

I agree with you, for accurate or detail work , I would never use a mouse or trackpad. The pen tablet is the tool of choice.

I gave up the mouse about a year ago, and started using the Magic Trackpad because I could no longer grip a mouse. Took a while to get used to it, but now I prefer it. Adapting to a new way of doing things is much faster when you are totally denied the old way.

Now I work with stylus/Wacom in left hand (lefty), Magic Trackpad in right hand, and I really like the set up.

I feel that especially now that Lion has surfaced with the new gestures, etc., the trackpad would be such a good addition beside my Apple Keyboard for my desktop.

Kind of regretting my magic mouse purchase now and cant justify owning both.

No more magic mouse? Big deal, so instead of putting a useless mouse into a drawer I'll put a useless trackpad into a drawer when I buy a Mac Pro.

though i can use trackpads in absence of a mice (especially while traveling); i hate it. I hate the trackpad.

If given the chance, I plug in a travel mouse so I can use that instead. I can work so much faster.

Trackpad may be nice for gestures... but improve the magic mouse so it can do so too! as I rather not have my desktop mouse replace with a trackpad that was original design for laptops and traveling in mind, and not quite for desktop ergonomics.

Apple is all about user experience. trackpad without mouse does not equate to batter experience; so i'd be surprised if Apple does this.

Besides Apple mouse is iconic!

You did have to hold the mouse in a strange way in order to use the touch functions. Apple need to sort out their mice, they are so poor to use and a horrible shape. G9x or gtfo.

If this is true, I'm going to buy at least one extra one for the future. I love the Magic Mouse, really hope they don't do away with it.

Typical....

Trackpads are useless for multi-hour navigation. If they were that great, there wouldn't be a booming industry for BT mice, aimed specifically at laptops.

Plus, the new multi-touch features of Lion are mostly useless and overkill.

Useless and overkill, huh? Way to really nail down your problems with Lions gestures. You hated natural scrolling too, right? Why do people upgrade to a new OS if they hate all the changes being made? Gestures are like second nature already, and scrolling took a good 5 minutes to get used to.

By the way, if you use a mouse with your new mac book pro or air, then your kind of missing the point. Maybe at home attached to a docking station of sorts, but on the go? Who does that?

"Goodbye any professional work!! It's impossible to use that thing for Photoshop, Dreamweaver or InDesign."

Which is why Wacom makes tablets...

They'll need to improve the Magic Trackpad before they can do this.

For everyone posting comments like the one above: THIS IS A RUMOR, YOU ARE READING A RUMOR SITE PEOPLE.

Save your moaning until and only IF Apple actually discontinues their mouse offering (which I dont think / hope they will).

It always amazes me the number of people that believe ANYTHING they read.

The downside or disadvantage to Magic Mouse (and Magic Trackpad) is the darn batteries only last about a month, and if the device goes off, you have to re-pair it, this is a pain.

This is why I ONLY use wired peripherals on all my Macs. I use Logitech Laser Mice (wired) and the Apple extended keyboard w/num pad (wired). Best setup ever. Batteries for mice and keyboards is a bad idea. They are better for TV controllers.
