...for me, the wait for the iPhone 5 is more about the insides. ...

I'd like to see one of the apple news/rumor sites do a poll asking just two questions:

How well does your iPhone perform each of these tasks? (as a phone, as an internet browser, as a camera, as a messaging device, as a PDA)

and secondly,

What task do you hope will be most improved on the iphone5?

My vote would be for improved voice service. But I'd really like to see a large-sample statistical analysis, in case my results aren't reflective of the broad user pool.

I heard from a guy who knows someone who used to be in rehab with someone who knew a teaching assistant for a teacher that taught someone who knew someone that delivered mail to Foxconn who told me that the next iPhone will be a complete redesign in 2012, based on this picture accidentally left by an Apple Employee in a bar.

Any BGR employee that wishes to hire me now can send me a PM.

If this were real, I would buy it. Not to use as my phone, but I do think it looks pretty awesome.

Make it have a bigger screen and I wont be able to throw my money at Apple fast enough.

I might just literally tell the guy at the Apple Store to "Shut up and take my money"

Agreed.

If they would have slapped the new chip, camera and Siri in a different case and called it iPhone 5, people would have flipped their ***** and gone bananas for it.

Stick the new hardware in the same old case, call it 4S and everyone said, "Lame."

Keep your keys and your phone in different pockets.

I go naked with my 4S about 95% of the time and it only has a couple, very small, very thin scratches on the back.

Sorry there Steve, and I guess I was holding it wrong too.

So you have scratches on the back. Point made. How many do you have on the front? I haven't' used a screen protector since the iPhone original and no scratches on my screen. The back is a cheap piece of glass that will shatter or scratch if you look at it wrong. The 3GS was a cheap piece of plastic that cracked right at the bottom, vertically, about an inch. Right into the product number area.

A matte, rubberized back would be functional in so many ways. Hides scratches. Keeps from slipping out of hand and off of dashboards. Provides some amount of shock protection. Not as heavy as glass back either.

my 4 screen is scratched like a ninja had to much sword fun with it and dont get me started on the back. strong glass my ass

ew... put your clothes back on... the 4s is tiny and can barely cover your privates...

That 4S has nothing on my hard disk!

I have two hairline scratches on the front, just near the top. I put a screen protector on after that. You don't even notice it's there really.

A matte, rubberized back is also a pain in the ass to pull in and out of jean pockets. I bought a thin, cheap rubber case for my 3GS and that thing was always getting stuck in my pocket, especially if it was hot outside and I was sweating.

The 4S, although yes it sold well, was really a very boring update, no? Seemed more like a stopgap until 5 was ready. Same as 3GS. A big snooze fest all around. We have grown to expect a bit more "wow" factor from Apple than this. Hope they don't let us down this time.

Everyone always says this about the 3GS, but when I went from 3G to 3GS it was a night and day difference in performance and improved the entire usability of the phone; definitely not a "snooze fest" except to those who didn't actually make this transition and just saw how it looked. Adding video camera functionality was also a major, much needed feature.

I went from 3GS to 4S, so I don't have as much first hand experience with this, but from what I gather the performance increase from the 4 to the 4S, while significant, was not as dramatic (partially because of no RAM increase). So maybe it was a "boring" update, though not unexpected (at least to me). Though I think there is a still more work they could do on the software side to get more performance out of the dual-core CPU.

I really like the iPhone 4S. The glass back and aluminum surround looks and feels great.

I don't want the iPhone 5 to have an aluminum back so that it looks like an iPad Mini, keep the iPhone unique & flashy, not dull.

Will stick with my 4S if the re-design turns out anything like the picture in the OP.

It'll be interesting if Apple goes back to a curvy shape. The 4/4S's boxy shape has the advantage that you can rest it on it's side (great for capturing video). This advantage would also go away if they make it thinner.

Personally I think they need to lose the easily broken glass back, it was a completely stupid design decision, and falls in line with what people mock Apple for (form over function). I actually think the original aluminum iPhone was the best looking, even with the black stripe at the bottom. Though looks don't really matter to me, I put a case over my phones.

i really want the iPhone 5 to launch this summer even though i already upgrade to the iPhone 4S and will have to pay full price. but the new design sounds really super! we'll have to see how this unfolds I suppose! Will you other iPhone 4S upgraders upgrade to the iPhone 5 too?:confused:

I like how you were downvoted to hell but when MacRumors posts the exact same thread just a few posts below yours, it remains uncastrated.

from what i gather, apple have already made up their mind and selected the final design. be patient and they would let you know enough about it, piece by piece, in an artistic manner to forget what you wanted, and fall for what they would come up with..but imo, their sense of design is awsome btw:cool:

best post yet:p:p;)

I really hope that they launch the iPhone in the summer again, but who knows. I guess if they do the iOS 6 preview in March/April or whenever then we'll know.

Also, BGR is the only website that I am 100% sure is making up complete BS and publishing it as I don't think they're ever right.

I heard from a guy who knows a guy who washes that one guy's car, that the iPhone 5 will be made out of diamonds and unobtainium.

There, I just started a "rumor."

Been waiting for the iPhone 5 will get the white and will choose Verizon for my Carrier, If my dad can afford it by then with all the bills he his to still pay down
